We may not know when Tony Ferguson will step back inside the Octagon, but it sounds like we could see him hit the mat before then.

According to ‘El Cucuy,’ he was offered the opportunity to roll with former lightweight world champion Charles Oliveira at a future UFC Fight Pass Invitational event.

“Was offered a grappling match against good ol’e Charlie Olives AKA Chuck for @UFCFightPass Invitational,” Ferguson wrote on his Instagram stories.

With UFC Fight Pass Invitational 7 scheduled to go down on Wednesday, May 15, Ferguson was likely offered a spot on a yet-to-be-announced card.

Their potential grappling match would serve as a rematch of sorts after the two stepped inside the Octagon against one another at UFC 256 in December 2020. Oliveira earned himself a unanimous decision victory, handing Ferguson his second-straight loss.

Tony Ferguson convinced he can still compete at the highest level

Since then, Tony Ferguson has grown his losing streak to near-record-breaking seven-straight defeats. Following his latest loss to Paddy Pimblett at UFC 296, fans, pundits, and even UFC CEO Dana White called for ‘El Cucuy’ to lay down his gloves for good.

Unfortunately, Ferguson has failed to take the advice of his peers, remaining convinced that he can turn things around and get back to the version of himself that once rattled off 12 straight wins in what was the most talent-rich division at the time.

As for Charles Oliveira, ‘Do Bronx’ is fresh off a split decision loss to Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300 last month. With the loss, Oliveira will move back down the lightweight ladder, paving the way for Dustin Poirier to step up and accept a fight with the division’s top dog, Islam Makhachev.

Still, Oliveira is sitting as the No. 2 ranked contender in the division, meaning one big win could put him right back into the title picture. However, ‘Do Bronx’ recently suggested that a move up to welterweight could be in his future.

Ryan Garcia is ready to knock Conor McGregor out cold after the former UFC double champion bashed “King Ry” for recently failing a drug test for his massive win over Devin Haney.

Garcia, who shocked the boxing world last month by scoring multiple knockdowns against Haney en route to a decision win, was linked to a failed drug test earlier this week. The boxing superstar has denied all allegations, but it’s not a great look coming off a career-defining win. At least that’s how McGregor sees it.

After learning that Garcia popped for performance-enhancing drugs, McGregor took to social media on Thursday and absolutely destroyed the young fighter. It was odd to say the least because “Notorious” and Garcia have been friendly over the years. McGregor even consoled Garcia following his loss to Gervonta Davis in April 2023. Still, the UFC star felt obligated to jump on X and label Garcia as a “cheat” while calling for a “lifetime ban.”

Garcia, who is hellbent on proving his innocence, did not take kindly to McGregor’s callout. On Friday, the boxing superstar released a video discussing the situation and taking the time to send a scathing message directly to “Notorious.”

Check it out below:

“I’ll knock Conor McGregor out bad. I’ll let him take steroids and I’ll still show you.”

McGregor, who hasn’t fought professionally since July 2021, will have his own fish to fry inside of the Octagon at UFC 303 this June. He will make his official return to UFC against Michael Chandler in what is lining up to be the biggest comeback in mixed martial arts (MMA) history.

After yet another forgetful Apex event, in which Alex Perez starched Matheus Nicolau (watch it), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) travels to Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, this weekend (Sat., May 4, 2024) for UFC 301, its fifth pay-per-view (PPV) event of 2024.

In the pay-per-view (PPV) main event, Flyweight champion, Alexandre Pantoja, will take on surging Australian contender, Steve Erceg, while in the co-main event, Jose Aldoa.k.a. “The King of Rio”comes out of retirement to punch Jonathan Martinez in the face.

While UFC 301 isn’t a strong PPV (thanks UFC 300), it is loaded with Brazilian talent up and down the card, making the atmosphere incredible. So, before PPV action kicks off on ESPN+ PPV, let’s checkout some random storylines, tidbits and statistics ahead of UFC 301 …

‘Marvelous City’

UFC returns to Rio de Janeiro this weekend for the eleventh time. The promotion was in the “Marvelous City” in Jan. 2023 for UFC 283, where Jamahal Hill defeated Glover Teixeira to capture the Light Heavyweight championship (watch highlights). Brandon Moreno unified the Flyweight championship by stopping Deiveson Figueiredo in the co-main event (relive it here).

Brazilians In Brazil

Fourteen Brazilians are fighting this weekend in their home country, and there is at least one Brazilian in every fight.

Main Event Noobs

UFC 301 will mark Pantoja’s first-ever UFC main event after 14 fights in the promotion. The highest he has been on a card is the co-main event (UFC 290 and UFC 296). Erceg, who has just three fights inside the Octagon, will also fight in his first main event.

Well, That Was Quick

Indeed, after a trio of bouts with the promotion, “Astroboy” will compete for the Flyweight title this weekend. The matchmaking shocked UFC fans because there were other deserving contenders, but after Erceg slept Matt Schnell, UFC made up its mind.

Erceg has been in UFC less than one year.

Mirror

If you didn’t know, Erceg got into mixed martial arts (MMA) because of Brock Lesnar. He was a big WWE fan, and when he saw a smaller guy like Frank Mir take out Lesnar, that was all he needed.

Well, just like the guy who got him into fighting, he will get a title shot in less than four fights in UFC. Lesnar got it after two fights, and Erceg got it with three … and they both got title shots within a year’s time.

Underrated AF

When you compare Pantoja’s and Erceg’s resumes, they are truly night and day and are not comparable. However, that allows one to appreciate the work that Pantoja has put in.

In his last eight fights, “The Cannibal” has fought Figueiredo, Schnell, Perez, Askar Askarov, Manel Kape, Moreno and Brandon Royval (twice).

Hometown Boy

While Pantoja has been competing in UFC, he has never fought in Brazil, which is weird. At UFC 301, he will fight in Brazil and headline in his home city of Rio de Janeiro.

The “King of Rio” is also fighting this weekend …

WELCOME BACK, JOSE!

Okay, enough teasing; Jose Aldo comes out of his MMA retirement this weekend. The former long-time Featherweight king retired at UFC 278 after losing to Merab Dvalishvili and has been focusing on boxing for the last couple of years.

According to Aldo, his body just needed a break from a 20-year MMA career. He also wants to complete his current UFC contract, which has one fight left, so a final UFC fight in Rio de Janiero makes all the sense in the world.

Too bad it wasn’t against Dominck Cruz.

Leg Kick Battle

We all know Aldo has some of the best leg kicks in UFC history. Do you remember what he did to Urijah Faber?

Martinez — the man across the cage from Aldo this weekend — also has disgusting leg kicks. In fact, two of his last three wins have come via leg-kick technical knockout.

Hopefully, Aldo and Martinez will kick the shit out of each other.

Winless In Brazil

UFC veteran, Anthony Smith, returns to action this weekend against Vitor Petrino. “Lionheart” is winless (0-2) in Brazil and hopes to get his first win.

His first defeat came against Antonio Braga in 2013, and then five years later, he lost to Thiago Santos.

Top 10 Shot

Petrino was bumped out of the Top 15 rankings this past week and will have a chance to snatch Smith’s No. 10 ranking this weekend.

The undefeated Brazilian is 4-0 in the promotion with two finishes.

‘Duelist’ Returns To Brazil

The last time Ihor Potieria fought in Brazil, he retired UFC legend, Shogun Rua, and then danced over his body, which pissed off the fanbase. Since then, the Ukrainian fighter has gone 1-2, winning “Fight of the Night” at UFC Austin.

Doubling Up

Potieria is stepping up on relatively short notice, replacing Makhmud Muradov, which was surprising because UFC CEO, Dana White, announced he is fighting Sharabutdin Magomedov at UFC Saudi Arabia.

Even though Potieria is fighting Michel Pereira at UFC 301, he plans to return to fight at UFC Saudi Arabia.

Set Up?

According to No. 13-ranked Middleweight, Paul Craig, UFC is setting up No. 14-seeded, Caio Borralho, to beat him.

Craig is 1-1 since moving down to the Middleweight division. He is also winless (0-2) in Brazil.

Welcome To UFC!

Three fighters are making their UFC debuts this weekend at UFC 301.

  • Mauricio Ruffy (9-1) takes on Jamie Mullarkey. Ruffy is coming off a contract-winning performance on season seven of Contender Series against Raimond Magomedaliev, where he finished him in the third round. Ruffy holds a 100 percent finish rate with nine knockouts and is a teammate of Borralho.
  • Dione Barbosa (6-2) fights fellow newcomer Ernesta Kareckaite (5-0-1). Both fighters are coming off contract-winning performances on season seven of Contender Series. Barbosa tapped Rainn Guerrero in the first round, while Kareckaite is coming off a split decision win over Carli Judice.

‘Killer’ Killer

Speaking of Barbosa, she is the last person to defeat Karine Silva, who is currently on a nine-fight win streak and is ranked No. 12 in the Flyweight division. Silva just defeated Ariane da Silva last week, too.

Jack Shore Training Session

Jack Is Back

After a 14-month layoff, Jack Shore returns this weekend against Joanderson Brito. Shore has been recovering from a nasty hand injury, as well as being a first time dad. “Tank” was once touted as one of the biggest prospects in all of Europe. And while he still has hype behind him, he has cooled a little because of his loss to Ricky Simon in 2022. Shore moved up to Featherweight last year and steamrolled Makwan Amirkhani.

Brito is a tough matchup for anyone, so if Shore can defeat him convincingly, a big matchup will follow.

Sweet 16 Beatdown

Karolina Kowalkiewicz takes on Iasmin Lucindo this weekend, and it will be the largest age gap between women in UFC history — 16 years. Lucindo is 22 and was born in 2002, while Kowalkiewicz is 38.

The UFC veteran is riding a four-fight win streak, while the young Brazilian has won two straight.

‘Prelims’ Banger

One of the best fights on UFC 301 takes place seven fights into the “Prelims.” Myktybek Orolbai returns after turning heads in his UFC debut when he made light work of Uros Medic on short notice. He holds a 92 percent finish rate and is dropping back down to his proper weight class (Lightweight).

Orolbai takes on Elves Brenner, who has been perfect thus far in UFC, racking up three wins, with his last two being vicious knockouts (watch highlights).

UFC Fight Night: Almeida v Lewis Official Weigh-in

Rebooked!

Ismael Bonfim and Vinc Pichel will finally fight on Saturday after having their first fight canceled back in Nov. 2023 at UFC Sao Paulo. It was canceled because Bonfim missed weight and Pichel refused to fight him.

Hopefully, everything goes right!

Jake Paul vows to finish Mike Tyson in summer pro boxing match I'm going to put him down

Jake Paul has sent a warning to Mike Tyson ahead of their July 20 fight live on Netflix.

Paul and Tyson are set to box in a pro bout, after the Texas Commission sanctioned it as such. It’s an intriguing matchup, and going into the bout, Paul is the betting favorite and he’s confident he will put the former heavyweight champion on the canvas.

“They’re just going to say, ‘He’s old and you disrespected him,’ and all that s—,” Paul said on his YouTube channel. “But I just want to make it clear: Mike Tyson was the one who wanted it to be a pro fight. Mike got into training camp and called up people on my team and were like, ‘Let’s do a pro fight, is Jake down?’” Netflix was like, ‘Let’s make it a pro fight, we’re down.’

“And I said to [MVP co-owner] Nakisa [Bidarian], ‘If that’s what Mike wants, that’s fine. But make sure you tell Mike that there’s no holding back. Whatever happens, happens and this is war now and if Mike’s okay with that, then I’m okay with that but I want Mike to be the one making this decision.’ I’m going in there, and now it’s a pro fight, it’s on my record, I’m going to f—ing put him down. And if people are pissed about it, then watch soccer,” Paul continued.

If Paul does KO Tyson it would be a statement-making performance from him. However, some fans are still worried about the fight due to the age gap between the two.

Jake Paul the favorite over Mike Tyson

After it was revealed the fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson would be a pro fight, betting odds for the bout were revealed for the fight.

Paul is currently a -180 favorite while Tyson is a +135 underdog. At -180, that implies a 64.3% chance of winning the fight.

Jake Paul enters the bout with a pro record of 9-1 and is coming off back-to-back first-round knockouts over Ryan Bourland and Andre August.

Mike Tyson, meanwhile, is 50-6 and two NC’s in his pro career, but he hasn’t fought professionally since Kevin McBride. He did box Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition match in November of 2020.

Let me be clear off the bat: I’m quite happy that Jose Aldo is back in action at UFC 301 this weekend (Sat., May 4, 2024) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Brazilian Hall of Famer didn’t leave at the absolute peak of his game, but that’s because his peak is utterly unreachable for mere mortals. No, even at 35 years old in a young man’s division, Aldo walked away from his UFC career after barely losing to Merab Dvalishvili in a title eliminator match up. Prior to that, Aldo had beaten up three ranked fighters in a row, building a better case for a title shot than T.J. Dillashaw and his imploding shoulder.

In my experience, there is a direct correlation between how long somebody has been a fan of the sport and how much respect they have for Jose Aldo. Long-time fans — those who remember the blue World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) cage — hold Aldo on a pedestal. He’s the G.O.A.T. … or at least the clear-cut choice for best Featherweight of all time. To watch Aldo’s entire career is to watch an unbelievable athlete dice through numerous top contenders in various styles and fashions. Aldo reinvented himself three or four times, and each reinvention was better than almost everyone else.

Newer fans don’t have that perspective.

Some see his losses to Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski (respectively 13 and 15 years into his professional career) as disqualifications from greatness. Others only see the Conor McGregor knockout loss and are probably tired of hearing about how great his low kicks used to be.

Now, Aldo is back in the cage at 135 pounds, a career move that initially seemed like a death sentence yet landed Aldo a title shot and Top 5 position in arguably the deepest division in mixed martial arts (MMA). After two years away, where does Aldo land in the division, and what are his overall goals in returning to action?

Jonathan Martinez is a difficult task for any Bantamweight.

He’s won eight of his last nine and hasn’t lost in more than three years. The fact that he’s not Top 10 is indicative of the division’s depth, but there are certainly possible Aldo opponents ranked more highly that seem to be easier fights (like No. 8-ranked Rob Font). It’s not as classic a match up as “Aldo vs. Cruz,” but it’s a litmus test of whether Aldo is still an elite Bantamweight, because that’s what it takes to beat “The Dragon” at this stage of the game.

Assuming Aldo does defeat Martinez, however, what’s left for him to accomplish at Bantamweight? There are two paths forward: chasing the title or legacy match ups. The former sounds unlikely. Sean O’Malley is a brutal style match up for Aldo — too fast, athletic and high-volume. Or, Dvalishvili could be champion by the end of the year, and nobody is clamoring for that rematch.

The other path sounds a lot more fun.

If Aldo is really back and wants to rack up paychecks without committing to the title run, let’s get him in the cage with name opponents. The Dominick Cruz fight is evergreen, but I also would find a match up against former champion, Deiveson Figueiredo, wildly interesting, too.

What happens if Aldo loses though? For the first time since like 2008, Aldo would be fighting and not considered Top 10 in the world. The Cruz fight could still happen — EVERGREEN — but it’s difficult to imagine Aldo wanting to continue fighting if he’s not doing so at a remarkably high level.

Maybe this return is a one-off or maybe it’s the start of the next iteration of Aldo. One way or another, UFC 301 should offer some insight into the legend’s future.

Video! Canelo, Munguia Share Intense Final Face Off

Boxing great Canelo Alvarez will be back in action this Saturday night (May 4, 2024) LIVE on DAZN boxing pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, as the Mexican superstar defends his undisputed super middleweight title against undefeated brawler Jaime Munguia.

This is a massive matchup on paper. Alvarez hasn’t looked quite as dominant in recent outings and Munguia has been an absolute killer throughout his career, which is evident by his 43-0 professional record. The 27-year-old Mexican fighter has never faced someone as good and as accomplished as Canelo so this will be a true test of skill for Munguia.

For Canelo, this is yet another chance for him to knock off a younger and very hungry boxer trying to take the next step up. Munguia has fought some decent competition throughout the years, but Canelo is still a massive betting favorite for Saturday’s fight. It will once again be his fight to lose.

On Friday, the two fighters stepped on stage for official weigh ins (results HERE) and one final faceoff. Check it out in the above video player and don’t miss a second of the action!
