Reigning UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is set to defend his title at December 30’s UFC 207 against hard-hitting No. 6-ranked Cody “No Love” Garbrandt, a man who holds an undefeated professional record with his last three victories coming by way of T/KO.

Garbrandt’s devastating power undoubtedly gives a him a chance in this fight, and he feels as if he’ll be the man to dethrone “The Dominator”, although Cruz obviously has different feelings on the matter:

“That’s his take on it and if you hear him, he’s not the most intelligent guy in the world,” Cruz told TMZ just recently (Via FOX Sports). “So there’s two ways to go about this sport. There’s taking the damage, taking the chances, walking into the center and being willing to take punches in order to give punches.

“Then there’s me, where I’m going to put myself in the smallest ratio of taking damage, that way I can use my brain and continue to beat you down, round after round, pick you apart, take as minimal amount of damage as I can while I just beat you up.”

Cruz, who many consider to be the very best bantamweight of all-time, uses a style that incorporates unique movement and footwork in a way that allows him to take very little damage. Some have criticized him of running or point fighting, but “The Dominator” is typically able to avoid big shots, while striking his opponent from different angles.

He plans to do just that against “No Love”, adding in that he’s going to make Garbrandt look ‘silly’:

“I’m going to mix it up, keep you guessing so much that at the end of it, you’re going to just wish that I would put you out of your misery,” Cruz said. “I’m just going to keep tagging you up and making you look silly.

“Step by step, minute by minute, round by round, until you beg me to stop you.”

Who do you expect to walk away with 135-pound gold in December?

The most debated bantamweight match-up in MMA has been made official for December 30’s UFC 207.

UFC officials confirmed to ESPN.com today (Mon., October 24, 2016,) that 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz will meet surging contender Cody ‘No Love’ Garbrandt in the co-main event of the year-ending card from Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.

Cruz famously made his return from a four-year bout with multiple injuries to wrest the title from TJ Dillashaw in a close, controversial bout at January’s UFC Fight Night 81. ‘The Dominator’ then moved onto a one-sided decision win over longtime rival Urijah Faber in the co-main of June 4’s UFC 199.

Meanwhile, ‘No Love’ has been doing anything but winning decisions, knocking out opponents left and right on his way to an impressive five-fight win streak in the UFC featuring four knockouts. He was last seen dominating longtime veteran Takeya Mizugaki at August’s UFC 202, and he ended the heavy hype train of Brazilian contender Thomas Almeida with a shocking first-round knockout only months earlier this May.

The fight has been talked about as the ultimate clash of styles in the suddenly buzzing 135-pound division, with the master of movement and avoiding strikes set to face off against arguably the most powerful puncher in the short history of UFC bantamweights. It also comes in with a bit of past bad blood involve, as Garbrandt now carries the torch for Faber and all of Team Alpha Male, whom Cruz has long had a bitter rivalry with.

The fight will lead into UFC 207’s anticipated Amanda Nunes vs. Ronda Rousey women’s bantamweight main event, ‘Rowdy’s’ log-awaited return to the Octagon following her devastating loss to Holly Holm last year.

But could Cruz vs. Garbrandt steal the 135-pound show on December 30?

Every time No. 8-ranked UFC bantamweight Cody “No Love” Garbrandt competes it becomes clearer and clearer that he could very well be a legitimate threat to Dominick Cruz’s 135-pound throne. “No Love” made waves when he blasted previously surging contender Thomas Almeida in the first round of their main event bout last May, and he continued that hot wave with another first round finish over veteran Takeya Mizugaki at last night’s (August 20, 2016) UFC 202 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Not only has Garbrant, who trains with Cruz’s longtime rival Urijah Faber, won four straight UFC bouts, but he’s also strung up a bit of a rivalry with the champion. Recently speaking on “No Love”, Cruz said that he was disrespected by the Team Alpha Male product for no reason, also saying that he thought Garbrandt was C.M Punk, who will make his UFC debut at September 10’s UFC 203. “The Dominator” also made it clear that he had no problem facing off with Garbrandt:

“Garbrandt’s been running his mouth for a long time. Cruz said on FOX Sports 1. After I got done fighting Faber, he was right there already jawing, talking about me polishing the belt and whatnot. And it’s like, “Man, alright. Now you’ve disrespected me before I even knew who you were.” I didn’t even say one word to this man. I didn’t even know who he was! No clue! I just thought he was an up-and-comer with crazy tattoos. I thought he was CM Punk for a second, and then he got it together and I was like, “Oh, shoot – that’s not. That’s the CM Punk of the 135 pound division, he’s got all the hype behind him.” So maybe I should just go in there, take the wind from his sails, and then move on and keep beating everybody else.”

Would you like to see these two bantamweights cross paths in the near future?

UFC bantamweight prospect Cody Garbrandt improved his record to 9-0 at UFC Fight Night 88 with a stunning KO of Thomas Almeida. The Brazilian was on a red hot streak before meeting Garbrandt, with an undefeated record of 21-0, but ‘No Love’ was in no mood for anything more than one round in Vegas. In a fantastic display of offensive striking and footwork, Garbrandt exposed the holes in Almeida’s defense and scored a game changing first round finish.

With the bantamweight division once again being ruled by Dominick Cruz, there’s a lot of potential fights going on among the contenders, especially now the Team Alpha Male striker has shaken things up.

Since defeating ‘Terminator’ in such dominant fashion, Garbrandt has called out Bryan Caraway, who defeated Aljamain Sterling by decision at the same event. It looks as though they could potentially duke it out for the rights to the next title shot, but it’s not stopped ‘No Love’ and the current 135-pound champion Dominick Cruz from exchanging a few words.

After a number of harrowing injuries meant Cruz had to vacate the bantamweight title, he returned with a win over Takeya Mizugaki, before coming back in a big way in 2016. Beating the former Team Alpha Male standout TJ Dillashaw to recapture the title, ‘The Dominator’ aligned himself for the trilogy bout with Urijah Faber at UFC 199 this coming Saturday (June 4, 2016).
