While the sport of mixed martial arts would simply be nothing without the fights themselves, much of the love for the sport comes from the entertainment factor, which includes the hype, the build-up and the trash talk surrounding fights. Obviously not all fighters are trash talkers and not all fights include bad blood and back-and-forth banter, but those that do are often quite memorable.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the UFC’s seven best trash talk battles:

Rampage Rashad

7) Rashad Evans vs. Rampage Jackson

The UFC’s light heavyweight division appears to be rather scarce as of late, but it was once the sport’s premier weight class, and at one point, former champions “Suga” Rashad Evans and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson were at the forefront of the 205 pounders.

When the two met at May 2010’s UFC 114, neither held the UFC light heavyweight title, but they remained in the headlining spot as the trash talk between the two leading up to the bout was memorable to say the least.

Coaching opposite each other on The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 10 prior to the bout, the two had ample time to get under each other’s skin and they did just that. Both “Suga” and “Rampage” have always been outspoken individuals and they didn’t hold back, which resulted in one of the best trash talk battles we’ve ever seen.

Dominick Cruz: Cody Garbrandt Talked Himself Into This Fight

Dominick Cruz will look to add No. 5-ranked Cody Garbrandt to his list of current and former Team Alpha Male victims when he meets “No Love” in the co-main event of December 30’s UFC 207 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and as usual, the cerebral assassin isn’t giving his heavy-handed opponent much respect.

Many in the MMA world are enamored with Garbrandt’s scary, fight-stopping power – a rarity for the 135-pound ranks and a skill “The Dominator” has indeed never displayed during his brilliant career. Yet while “No Love’s” four show-stopping knockouts in five wins since joining the UFC in 2015 will get fans talking, Cruz spoke up on today’s “The MMA Hour” (quotes via MMA Mania) to state his belief that Garbrandt isn’t a top-ranked fighter but simply talked his way into a big fight:

“We’re in the fight business and this is a fight, plain and simple. He isn’t in the top five of the division, and it’s my job to go out there and prove it.

“He did talk himself into this fight, 100 percent. It’s my job to go out there and fight him. I want to fight him, I want to fight this man because it sparks interests and there is a beef there. This guy has been running his mouth a lot. So it’s my job to go out there and shut it for him and show him why he is nowhere near the level he thinks he is.”

Since returning from an almost four-year layoff due to multiple surgeries, Cruz has ramped his rivalry up with Team Alpha Male and their fighters to never-before-seen heights. He beat former TAM flagship member TJ Dillashaw by decision to win back his belt last January, and he followed it up by badly outclassing founder Urijah Faber at UFC 199.

He’s now matched up with Alpha Male’s latest (and some would say greatest) hope to beat the Alliance MMA champion in Garbrandt, who’s made knocking out some of the world’s top bantamweights looking easy. If Cruz is known for one thing, however, it’s not getting hit, making his upcoming showdown with Garbrandt one of the most interesting styles clashes the still-developing UFC 135-pound landscape has ever seen.

In exactly one month, reigning UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will once again put his title on the line against surging contender Cody “No Love” Garbrandt in the co-main event of Dec. 30’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada. The bad blood between the two has been quite evident throughout the build-up to the fight, and it hasn’t slowed one bit, as Cruz recently got into it with Garbrandt’s girlfriend on Instagram.

After Cruz posted a video of “No Love” getting knocked out back in his amateur days, Garbrandt’s girlfriend fired back with a photo of Cruz getting choked out by Urijah Faber. Check out what was said next below (Photos courtesy of MMAMania):

After a comment from “Haha!!” Garbrandt, “The Dominator” responded with the following:

“Don’t get involved in big boy stuff little girl – [you’re] just going to get yourself embarrassed. Just have the tissue ready for your boy toy when he loses, that’s your job :).”

Cruz most recently defended his title in dominant fashion against Faber, while Garbrandt is riding a five fight UFC win streak that includes three consecutive stoppage victories.

Who are you picking to come out on top next month?

Dominick Cruz Rips Cody Garbrandt & TJ Dillashaw

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw and No. 5-ranked Cody Garbrandt seemed to be in the running for the next shot at 135-pound gold, but it was ultimately “No Love” who got the call, as he’ll take on champion Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of Dec. 30’s UFC 207 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cruz scored a decision victory over Dillashaw last January to recapture his title, and he seemed to be more interested in a bout with Garbrandt rather than a rematch with Dillashaw. In fact, the champion recently said that “No Love” was chosen because he’s ‘emotional’ instead of “Killashaw” who Cruz said is ‘fake’:

“The new owners of the UFC, they’re a management company, they deal with high, elite-level stars, and if you really look at the background of the people who just spent $4.2 billion on the UFC, they’re going to make specific decisions according to making the business better,” Cruz told MMAjunkie. “Dillashaw, in my opinion, doesn’t make the business better. Cody, with the emotional wreck that he is, people can grasp to that because they see the emotion in him, they see what he’s thinking, they see what he’s feeling. He lets it all out. Dillashaw is fake. Everything Dillashaw does is a lie. He can’t let his true self out.”

Cruz is without question the best bantamweight of all-time and he rarely gets hit, but he’ll face a stiff test in the form of the 25-year-old Garbrandt. “No love” has won five straight UFC bouts with four of those victories coming by way of finish.

Who do you expect to walk away with 135-pound gold next month?

Dominick Cruz Reveals Why He’s Fighting Cody Garbrandt

Dominick Cruz isn’t defending his title against No. 6-ranked Cody Garbrandt at Dec. 30’s UFC 207 because “No Love” is the highest ranked contender, but rather because he feels as if the hard-hitting Garbrandt will bring in the most sales. “Some people say somebody deserves it, that doesn’t matter to me,” Cruz told MMA Fighting.

“I don’t care what anybody else thinks or what anybody else deserves, because there’s no validity behind that. There’s nothing.”

“Rankings don’t mean anything,” Cruz said. “I don’t care about rankings. I care about sales. And right now, Cody Garbrandt is running his mouth enough, he’s writing such a big check that he can’t cash, that I can’t wait to take it all from him and stuff it down his throat.”

Not only does Cruz feel as if “No Love” will bring him more money, but he also feels as if there’s a built in story line with the bout given his past history with Team Alpha Male, a team led by Cruz’s bitter rival Urijah Faber. “No Love” has slowly become one of Team Alpha Male’s most prominent contenders:

“What the difference is, is that he comes from a storyline of guys that I’ve been beating down for 10-plus years from a camp called Alpha Fail and his biggest coach is a guy that I’ve been smashing for 10-plus years,” Cruz said.

“It’s just there. It’s all there for the taking. It’s all there for everybody on their entire squad that’s going to be sad and crying again after I smash their boy. So it’s perfect for me. I love it.”

“The fight interests me, because he’s the next guy in line that the UFC wants me to fight and he’s been talking, yes,” Cruz said. “Anybody who’s said as much foul things about anybody as he’s said to me, you’d want to fight him. It just makes it a little more fun.”

Who do you expect to come out on top at UFC 207?

Anything can happen in a mixed martial arts fight and especially in a title fight, as we’ve seen multiple UFC titles change hands over the last year. With less than two months remaining in the calendar year, the UFC is set to put on a slew of not only exciting, but competitive title fights, as well as some massive events.

Let’s take a look at six UFC titles that could potentially change hands before the year’s end:

Ronda Rouseyn

Women’s Bantamweight

Newly crowned UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes is gearing up to defend her title for the very first time when she takes on former longtime champion Ronda Rousey, a female many consider to be the best 135-pound female fighter of all-time, in the main event of Dec. 30’s UFC 207.

By the time she enters the cage, The “Rowdy” one will have spent 13 months on the sidelines, as she hasn’t competed since being brutally knocked out by Holly Holm last November. Rousey was picked apart by Holm’s superior striking and she didn’t deal with the loss well, ultimately staying out of the limelight for the majority year. With that being said, it’s difficult to tell what form of Rousey will show up and what improvements she may have made.

Nunes is no slouch and she has proven to be a vicious well-rounded fighter, but if Rousey shows up in vintage form, we could see the 135-pound title change hands.
