President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that UFC boss Dana White and WWE CEO Vince McMahon will be part of his economic task force.

The task force is believed to be charged with finding ways to boost the American economy which has been destroyed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and a subsequent lack of industry.

White and McMahon are part of a large group of sports leaders who have been drafted in to help get the ball rolling again as Trump hopes to move America out of lockdown.

Andy Slater confirmed the full list of sports leaders on Twitter, he said. “JUST NOW: Adam Silver, Rob Manfred, Roger Goodell, Gary Bettman, Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, Dana White, and Vince McMahon are part of a large group that will help advise on how to restart the economy, President Trump says.”

Brett Okamoto later confirmed the news when he spoke to Dana White who announced he’ll be pressing ahead with an event on May 9. He was previously forced to postpone all upcoming shows after Disney/ESPN advised him to do so.

Sports leaders are just one small sector of this taskforce which will see Trump consult experts in various fields as he attempts to bring the US economy back to life. However, the President was adamant about the importance of sports when he spoke on Tuesday and seemed determined to see them back on our screens sooner rather than later, he said.

“In sports – we want to get our sports back, so importantly,” Trump said. “… We have to get our sports back. I’m tired of watching baseball games that are 14 years old. But I haven’t actually had too much time to watch. I would say maybe I watch one batter, and then I get back to work.”

UFC President Dana White was among the sports leaders who partook in a conference call with President Donald Trump amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A few hours after the call President Trump held a press conference to update the American people on the ongoing crisis. As well as various other topics he spoke about the call with UFC President White and the other sports leaders, he said.

“I just spoke with the commissioners and leaders of, I would say, virtually all of the sports leagues,” Trump said. “These are all the great leaders of sport. They want to get back. They’ve got to get back. They can’t do this. Their sports weren’t designed for it. The whole concept of our nation wasn’t designed for it. We’re going to have to get back. We want to get back soon – very soon.”

Later in the press conference, Trump insisted normal service will be resumed “sooner rather than later”, but he refused to give any timeline, he said.

“I want fans back in the arenas,” Trump said. “No, I think whenever we’re ready. As soon as we can, obviously. The fans want to be back, too. They want to see basketball, baseball, football, and hockey. They want to see their sports. They want to go out onto the golf courses and breathe nice, clean, fresh, beautiful air.

“I can’t tell you a date, but I think it’s going to be sooner rather than later. We’re not going to have separation for the rest of our times on the planet. We need it for this period of time. Eventually, people are going to be able to occupy those seats in arenas next to each other like we have for all of my life and all of your life.” (Transcribed by MMAJunkie)

How long will it be before fans are back in attendance at sporting events again?

Fury Wilder Trump

The rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury was one of the biggest in boxing history — and President Donald Trump was one of many who was watching.

Fury shocked the world when he outclassed and battered Wilder en route to winning the WBC heavyweight championship via seventh-round TKO on Saturday night.

Trump — who has a storied history with the world of combat sports — was impressed by both competitors and is considering inviting them to the White House in the near future.

“That was a great fight,” Trump told reporters outside the White House on Sunday before his trip to India (via New York Post). “Two great fighters. It was really very exciting.

“Maybe we have to bring them both to the White House — I don’t know — because that was really a good one. I think we’ll do that.”

Wilder had previously visited the White House back in 2018 when Trump posthumously pardoned Jack Johnson, the first African-American heavyweight champion, who was convicted back in 1913 for flaunting his relationship with white women during a period of extreme racial tension.

“Donald is a huge fan of boxing, was asking me about my next fight and encouraging me to get the knockout,” Wilder said at the time. “But on this day in history, I am able to say, forevermore, that I was there for yet another historical achievement to take back to my family and my children and the people of Alabama. I’m able to say that I was there when they pardoned Jack Johnson.”

And of course, Fury is a fan of Trump as well.

Fury’s father John believes a meeting in the White House would be the perfect way for his son to bow out from the sport of boxing.

“That’s good for a Fury, isn’t it?” John said on GMB. “And I’m a big fan of Donald Trump. It’s been an amazing journey and look where it’s ended. And what a great point to bow out on — a meeting in the White House.”

What do you think of Trump potentially inviting Fury and Wilder to the White House?
