One of the stand out performances from UFC 310 this past weekend came from Dooho Choi in the main card opener. “The Korean Superboy” produced his best performance to date inside the Octagon with a dominant victory against Nate Landwehr.

His boxing was incredibly effective early on and after implementing his grappling, Choi was able to shut Landwehr out before capping off his performance with a TKO finish in the third round from the crucifix position. Having earned back-to-back wins inside the Octagon in 2024 for the first time since 2016, the Korean stand out is well and truly back in the mix at 145-pounds.

In his post-fight interview, Choi called out a fellow featherweight who would be competing in the very next bout on the card. After Bryce Mitchell finished Kron Gracie to return to the win column, the 33-year old posted the following message on Instagram, making reference to Mitchell’s opinions on the earth being flat.

Fight fans reacted on social media to this creative callout that went above and beyond the usual post-fight interview question that was poised by Joe Rogan at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“my new favourite ufc call out, Doo Hoo Choi calls out Bruce Mitchell”

“Not gonna lie s*** kinda looking flat”

“What a splendid callout….”

“I hope they make this fight next.”

“Should’ve posted a picture of a seat belt”

“Doo Ho by whatever he wants”

Dooho Choi scored his first victory in the Octagon since 2016 during the main card of Saturday’s UFC Fight Night at the Apex, defeating fellow featherweight veteran Bill Algeo.

After already threatening a choke during the opening round, Choi landed a vicious left hook in the second round, causing Algeo to collapse to the mat. The American grabbed at his face while doing so, with some speculation he may have shattered an orbital bone taking the punch.

Dooho Choi Lands Brutal Hook To Drop Bill Algeo

After the fight, “The Korean Superboy” expressed a desire to compete at least three times a year from this point forward.

Choi is now unbeaten in back-to-back fights since his return to the Octagon. Prior to tonight, his last fight came at a UFC Fight Night in February 2023, marking the end of a three-year layoff. He battled Kyle Nelson to a majority draw.

The Korean had dropped three straight before the draw, including a fight with Cub Swanson at UFC 206 that earned him Fight of the Year honors and scored both men spots in the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.

Algeo, meanwhile, has now dropped back-to-back fights, having lost to Nelson via first-round TKO at UFC Fight Night Atlantic City this past March.

UFC Fight Night 124 emanated tonight (Sunday, January 14, 2018) from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO. The evening was headlined by an intriguing featherweight tilt between long-time contender Jeremy Stephens and the hard-punching up-and-comer Dooho Choi.

After a back-and-forth first frame that Choi probably took on greater volume, Stephens got the biggest win of his career in the second. Leg kicks and occasional punching combinations were the names of the game for the two hard-hitting featherweights. Choi opened the second with a flush front kick to “Lil Heathen’s” face, and that set off a temporary wild brawl. Stephens started to find a home for his shots and found success pressuring Choi backwards. A looping right hand connected behind Choi’s ear and sent him to the deck. Stephens pounced with a ruthless ground assault of punches and elbows, forcing the ref to jump in to save Choi. For their efforts, Stephens and Choi go home with an extra $50,000 and Fight of the Night.

Insanely tough featherweight standout Darren Elkins gave Michael Johnson a rude welcome to the division with a second-round rear-naked choke and so banked an extra $50,000 for Performance of the Night. As has become typical for “The Damage”, Elkins withstood a beating in the first frame from the faster, crisper striker in Johnson. But Elkins, as always, refused to quit. He caught a second-round leg kick for his first takedown, and Johnson soon looked imperiled. Unable to get Elkins off of him, Johnson exploded and turned, giving up his back in the process. Elkins sunk in his hooks, and the choke soon followed.

The other Performance of the Night bonus went to Marco Polo Reyes, who greeted “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” alum Matt Frevola with a first-round knockout. “Steamrolla” was aggressive to a fault from the outset and never got to try his wrestling and grappling, where most thought he would have an advantage. Frevola waded forward behind winging power hooks, only to be met by sharp counters from the Mexican Reyes. The Entram Gym export hurt Frevola with a right hand and multiple left hooks before closing the show with one more right hand that sent Frevola slumping to the canvas. Reyes collected an extra $50,000 for his handiwork.

Based on Jeremy Stephens’ extensive track record inside the cage and Dooho Choi’s last fight, a “Fight of the Night”-winning war with Cub Swanson, the main event of tonight’s (Sun. January 14, 2017) UFC Fight Night 124 from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, promised to be an explosive affair full of fireworks.

And after a somewhat lackluster main card in Missouri, the main event delivered just that.

The back-and-forth first round saw both fighters find success with low kicks as they both landed some good shots in a close round that Stephens may have edged on forward pressure and activity on a more patient Choi. But the proverbial gloves came off in the second frame, with both men swinging wildly and landing huge strikes:

It was just the style of fight Stephens loves, and he capitalized by pushing the pace on Choi and rocking him with a huge right hook that dropped him right before he followed up with some hellacious elbows on the ground to finish it:

Here’s another look at the shot that became the beginning of the end for “The Korean Superboy”:

He also added a monstrous right on the ground as part of the fight-ending sequence:
