Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum has a huge test waiting for him, as he’s set to defend his title for the very first time against rising contender Stipe Miocic in the main event of May 14’s UFC 198 from Brazil.

While he’s likely not looking past Miocic, Werdum also has his eyes set on a potentially lucrative rematch in the future.

The Brazilian title holder recently took to his official Instagram account, voicing his desire to take on legendary heavyweight Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko in Chechenia if the UFC were to ever head there:

“I wish that, one day in the near future, Fedor and I can fight in the first UFC in Chechenia. I think this would be a glorious inaugural event in Chechenia, and I think the fans would love to see this competition between two legends. I know that Chechenia has a rich history in combative sports, and I also know that the president of Chechenia is a huge MMA Fan. He has his own team and he passionately invests and supports our sport. I would hope to make this dream come true someday.”

Emelianenko, a man many consider to be amongst the greatest heavyweights of all-time, recently returned to action after a three year hiatus, scoring a dominant victory over a rather unknown in Jaideep Singh last December at a Rizin event.

While he isn’t currently signed with the UFC, there have been rumors regarding a potential interest from Emelianenko in competing in the world’s largest MMA promotion.

Back in 2010, “The Last Emperor” infamously had his 28-fight unbeaten streak broken by Werdum when “Vai Cavalo” scored a monumental submission win at a Strikeforce event.

Would you like to see two of the sport’s most iconic big men run it back in the future?

Fabricio Werdum: Conor McGregor Is A Whore For Money

Reigning UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor has established himself as one of the most outspoken trash talkers in promotional history, a characteristic that has led McGregor to obtain his fair share of rivals.

In fact, the Irishman has even strung up some bad blood with heavyweight kingpin Fabricio Werdum.

McGregor infamously called Werdum out at the MMA Awards earlier this year, something the Brazilian champion obviously didn’t take lightly too.

Recently speaking on the Irishman with MMAFighting.com, “Vai Cavalo” admitted that McGregor has done well with marketing himself, but he also claimed that the “Notorious” one has become too invested with money, losing respect in the process:

“Conor McGregor started well with his marketing, he talks a lot and is a great fighter, we can’t deny that, but I think he crossed the line. It’s too much now,” Werdum said. “He said he will fight anyone, but that’s not how things work in our world. Fighters have a code, a law, and you have to respect everybody. He lost this respect, talked about me at the MMA Awards, and he talked sh*t at the wrong person. I won’t stay quiet and just listen.

“Fighters don’t like Conor McGregor,” he continued. “Everybody likes watching him fight because he does a good marketing, but I won’t change who I am because of money. Everybody likes money, but there’s a limit. Money isn’t everything. He sold his soul – and I’m saying soul so I don’t say other things [laughs]. I don’t think that’s cool. He sold his soul. It was about time someone would shut him up.”

Werdum also touched on his previous Instagram post, a slightly controversial picture in which he used to respond to McGregor’s speech.

“Vai Cavalo” claims that the picture was displaying the “Notorious” one as a ‘prostitute’ for money, a post that Werdum does not regret putting out in the least bit:

“Not a bit. I would do it again,” Werdum said. “If he talks something about me, I will do it again. If he says something in a press conference and I’m there, I would get (UFC president) Dana (White) out of the way [laughs]. You can’t let him be that cocky. You have to be crazier than him sometimes so he stops. I posted a photo putting my hand in his a** to show that he’s a prostitute. He does anything for money. Money is important, of course, but that’s not everything in your life. That’s what I was trying to say.”

Do you agree with the heavyweight ring leader?

Has McGregor lost himself due to his outlandish love for money?

Mark Hunt Wants A Big Fight Against Top Five Opponent

After scoring back to back first round knockout victories over the likes of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Frank Mir, legendary heavyweight striker Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt has his eyes set on a big time fight: “Any of them is fine,” Hunt said Monday on The MMA Hour. “Any of the top-five guys would be fine.” Despite

After scoring back to back first round knockout victories over the likes of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and Frank Mir, legendary heavyweight striker Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt has his eyes set on a big time fight:

“Any of them is fine,” Hunt said Monday on The MMA Hour. “Any of the top-five guys would be fine.”

Despite being 41 years of age, Hunt proved that he still has some pop left in his hands, scoring another of his patented walk off knockouts just last week (March 19, 2016) over the former champion in Mir.

The heavyweight division is almost completely booked up at this time in terms of top contenders which could be a problem for Hunt, as “The Super Samoan” is looking to get right back into the thick of things.

Perhaps a marquee matchup at this summer’s UFC 200 would fit the bill, but Hunt also said that he’d be ready to step in on short notice if any heavyweight bouts were to fall apart:

“If someone pulls out, I’d rather fight sooner,” Hunt said. “So if someone pulls out, I’m your man. Give me a call.”

Despite his recent run of success over the last few years inside of the Octagon, Hunt has suffered a few crucial defeats, all coming at the hands of some of the best heavyweights in the world including reigning champion Fabricio Werdum, current title challenger Stipe Miocic, and former divisional kingpin Junior dos Santos.

“The Super Samoan” has never lost in a rematch, and would happily accept a bout with any of those men. In fact, he even admitted that his loss to Miocic taught him a dire lesson regarding fight preparation:

“I want my rematch with those guys,” Hunt said. “That fight with Stipe taught me a big lesson there, never to be so much over weight before the fight. It was a problem. So I won’t be doing that again.”

Who would you like to see the heavy handed Hunt take on next?

After Cain Velasquez pulled out of his scheduled rematch with heavyweight champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum earlier this month, No. 2-ranked Stipe Miocic stepped up on short notice to fill in.

However, Werdum would also withdraw, and the bout was scrapped completely.

Rumors began to swirl indicating that the UFC still planned on booking Werdum vs. Miocic, possibly in May.

According to Sherdog, sources close to the situation have confirmed that “Vai Cavalo” will indeed defend his title against Miocic at UFC 198 on May 14, 2016 in Brazil.

An anticipated middleweight showdown between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort will serve as the co-main event.

Werdum has won six straight since re-entering the UFC in 2012, most recently scoring a submission win over Velasquez last June to secure the title.

Miocic, on the other hand, has come out victorious in five of his last six bouts, his only loss in that stretch coming in a five round war opposite former champion Junior Dos Santos. The Croatian slugger has picked up back to back stoppage wins over Mark Hunt and Andrei Arlovski, enough to finally award him his long awaited shot at gold.

Who will rule the heavyweight division in the aftermath of UFC 198?

Josh Barnett Offers To Fight Stipe Miocic For Heavyweight Title

The UFC’s heavyweight division has been thrown for quite the loop in the past two days. The UFC’s heavyweight division has been thrown for quite the loop in the past two days.

Yesterday (January 24, 2015) it was announced that former champion Cain Velasquez was out of his scheduled rematch with champion Fabricio Werdum at February 6’s UFC 196 due to injury. No. 2-ranked Stipe Miocic quickly stepped in to take on “Vai Cavalo”, but it was reported earlier today that the Brazilian was also pulling out of the bout due to an injury, leaving the promotion and Miocic in a limbo.

In the midst of all of the commotion, No. 8-ranked former divisional king Josh “The Warmaster” Barnett, who’s slated to meet Ben Rothwell at this weekend’s UFC on FOX 18, offered to take on Miocic for the title if need be:

“If they page me 911, if they send me the number, I will absolutely take the fight,” Barnett told MMAFighting. “If they want a heavyweight championship main event, I’m your man. I’ll go in. I’ll take care of business and I’ll give them what they want. I’ll give them what they need, which is a healthy, motivated championship fighter. That’s what they’ll get.”

“Interim title,” Barnett said. “It’s set up for a title match. Let’s keep it going. That’s what they need on Super Bowl weekend. They need a title fight. They need a heavyweight title fight. That’s what we can provide. Former champ and a No. 1 contender. That’s what people want to see.  They want to see championship level fights. They want to see the top guys go at it. We can do it.”

“The Warmaster” continued on, saying that he’s completely healthy, and if it were up to him he would go five rounds for the title right now:

“I’m ready,” Barnett said. “I’m willing. I’m capable. I’ll fight Stipe. I’ll go five rounds for a heavyweight title right now. We’re good.”

“For whatever reason, Werdum is hurt, Cain is hurt,” Barnett said, “Stipe stepped up and now Stipe doesn’t have a partner to dance with. I’ll dance with him. And then we’ll fight. And then maybe I’ll dance with him again afterwards. A nice slow one. When we’re all beat up and bruised and battered. When we’re vulnerable. That’s the time to go cheek to cheek on the dance floor.”

Although an interesting proposition, the idea is quite unlikely given Barnett’s upcoming fight, and the fact that Werdum should only be out for a few months.

“The Warmaster’s” opponent, Rothwell, also took to his official twitter account to voice his displeasure towards the idea:

What should the UFC do regarding not only UFC 196, but the heavyweight division in general?

Werdum Would’ve Fought Velasquez Injured, Miocic’s Manager Blasts Champ

Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum was supposed to defend his title for the very first time at February 6, 2016’s UFC 196 in a rematch against former boss Cain Velasquez. Reigning UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio “Vai Cavalo” Werdum was supposed to defend his title for the very first time at February 6, 2016’s UFC 196 in a rematch against former boss Cain Velasquez.

Things were shaken up, however, when Velasquez was forced out of the bout yesterday (January 24, 2015) due to a back injury suffered in training. The UFC quickly announced that No. 2-ranked Stipe Miocic would step up on short notice to battle Werdum for the title, which is why fans were so shocked to hear today (January 25, 2016) that Werdum will also be pulling out of the fight due to an injury.

Speaking with MMAFighting.com, “Vai Cavalo” elaborated on his injury, adding in that if Velasquez hadn’t pulled out that he would’ve still fought:

“I was already injured,” Werdum told Brazilian journalists on Monday. “I have a foot injury, and haven’t been able to throw kicks in training for two weeks. I would still fight Cain because I was injured the last time, but I also hurt my back last Friday. I went to the doctor, tried to continue training, but couldn’t spar as I should spar.

“I decided not to fight because I’m not 100 percent,” he continued. “If Cain was the opponent, I would go on. It’s not his fault, it’s nobody’s fault. Injuries happen. You can’t avoid them. I have no option. I made this decision because I’m not feeling 100 percent.”

Team Miocic wasn’t too pleased with this, as the Croatian’s manger said a champion shouldn’t “pick and choose opponents”:

“We’re extremely disappointed to hear that Werdum is pulling out of the fight,” Miocic’s manager, Greg Kalikas, told MMAFighting.com via text message. “If he’s [Werdum is] healthy enough to defend against Cain, we can’t understand why he’s not healthy enough to fight Stipe, who would only have 12 days to prepare for him as it stands.

“A champion shouldn’t pick and choose opponents. A true champion fights all comers. If he won’t fight Stipe with a short camp, are we supposed to believe he’d fight Stipe coming off a full training camp? No, he wouldn’t… and that’s a bad look for the supposed best heavyweight on the planet. All we can hope is that Werdum ‘heals’ up quick and will agree to fight Stipe sooner rather than later.”

Do you agree with Miocic’s manager, or should Werdum heal up and fight at his best?
