Detroit Urban Survival

UFC middleweight contender, Joaquin Buckley recently shared footage of himself training alongside, Dale Brown from the Detroit Urban Survival YouTube channel, who is responsible for numerous viral videos in recent weeks, on how to defend yourself from armed combatants.

Buckley, who was slated to meet with fellow knockout artist, Abdul Razak Alhassan at UFC Vegas 46 this weekend, saw the bout fall to the wayside after the latter was forced from proceedings for reasons currently undisclosed. The bout is, however, expected to now take place at a UFC Fight Night event on February 28. instead.

Joaquin Buckley holds 10 professional knockout victories across his 17 fight career

The St. Louis native returned to the winner’s enclosure back in September at UFC Vegas 37, stopping Antonio Arroyo with a massive third round knockout. The victory earned Buckley a Performance of the Night bonus.

Posting a near-six minute video on his social media, Buckley, who appeared quite sceptical about the aforenoted, Brown’s ability as a self-defense instructor, was informed of the three main principles thought at Detroit Urban Survival: Escaping, controlling, and lastly, immobilizing threat.

Cook, from Detroit Urban Survival, then demonstrated on Buckley how a threat could be immobilized via a stomp to the assailant’s knee, an eye poke, or the crushing of his hyoid in his neck.

Equipping Buckley with a knife, Cook encouraged the 27-year-old stab him, before eventually disarming Buckley. Demonstrating a hip toss, Buckley, who was taken down onto protective floor mats, remarked, “it ain’t no joke”.

Armed with a handgun, Buckley was once more disarmed as Cook then reversed and pointed the gun at him – leading Buckley to wince in pain as his finger remained in the trigger guard, before jokingly asking Cook, “you want me to pay your bills?”

Buckley then finds himself in a similar position to his infamous Knockout of the Year of Impa Kasangany in July 2020, where he scored a breathtaking spinning back kick knockout, but rather than execute the kick once more in a similar position, Buckley appeared to be immobilized once again.

Rising to notoriety in recent months, Cook, who heads up Detroit Urban Survival had his fair share of critics who question both his approach, and the actual survivability and real-world application of the manoeuvres he is charging his students to learn.

Francis Ngannou

UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has appeared in the latest teaser trailer for the upcoming February release of Jackass Forever – ahead of the Cameroon knockout artist’s Octagon return this month.

Ngannou, who is slated to headline UFC 270 on January 22. at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, attempts to unify the heavyweight crowns in a title unification clash with interim championship holder, Ciryl Gane.

Appearing in the February 4. release of Jackass Forever, Ngannou spoke recently on what he is tasked to carry out in the movie – namely punching one of the cast members in the groin.

“That’s the craziest thing that I’ve ever seen, man.” Francis Ngannou said last year. “I had to punch somebody in the nuts. I did it the first time, (the crew are saying), ‘Listen, man, we know you. People know that you’re the hardest puncher in the world. It wasn’t hard enough.’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? Like, I’m nervous. I don’t know, I could hurt this guy, did he at least have kids or something already.’”

Appearing in the trailer for the upcoming release of Jackass Forever – Ngannou, sporting a pair of boxing trunks, and what appear to be 16 oz boxing gloves, lines up to punch a member of the cast, who is wearing just his underwear, and hopefully, a protective cup

Set to make his long-awaited Octagon return later this month in California, Ngannou’s last professional appearance came back in March where he headlined UFC 260.

Rematching former two-time heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, Ngannou avenged his first promotional loss with a thunderous second round knockout to clinch the undisputed heavyweight crown.

Speculation of Ngannou’s future with the organization has been rife ahead of his unification bout with Gane – which incidentally comes as the last on his current contract with the promotion.

Should the Batie native successfully unify the heavyweight titles, he would then be subject to a ‘champion’s clause’ which would tie him to the organization for at least one more fight.

The heavyweight knockout bruiser has recently teased a move to the squared circle, once again outlining his ambitions to professionally box against current WBC heavyweight kingpin, Tyson Fury this year.

Evolution of Combat 9, an amateur mixed martial arts event hosted in Glasgow, Scotland hosted a massive mismatch bout back in September, with footage of the clash only surfacing across social media this week.

Drawing massive criticism for the decision to pit the two competitors together, 3-0 amateur, Aron Leo finished 21-year-old, Connor Knight with early ground strikes at the Evolution of Combat 9 event, with the bout sanctioned as an exhibition bout. Just two months later at Evolution of Combat 10, Leo would go on to finish Robbie Dunlop with a triangle stoppage.

An 11-second video of the stoppage from cageside emerged this week, which shows Loe back Knight up to the fence, before clipping with a left hand and a right hook which appears to land just behind the ear, before the referee separates the two as Leo lands a couple ground strikes. The Evolution of Combat 9 event took place back in September of last year.

With many questioning both the legitimacy of the matchup, as well as questioning how the clash was actually sanctioned to take place, UFC featherweight alum, the now-retired, Artem Lobov praised MMA results and events portal, Tapology for removing wins from fighters who appear to be padding their records.

Twitter user, @CutTag also shared footage of the main event from Evolution of Combat 9, where he alleges Knight’s brother takes headlining status.

In what looks to be another severe mismatch, Knight’s brother is also finished in spectacular fashion inside seconds of the opening round courtesy of a massive left high-kick at Evolution of Combat 9.

The above mentioned, Knight also made his professional kickboxing debut back in October, just a month following his knockout loss to Leo.

Featuring on the Evolution Combat Mixed Martial Arts event in Kent, England, Knight suffered a knockout loss just 33-seconds into the opening round against Toby Priestley. Knight was scheduled to feature against Ryan Southern and Brandon Jackson in amateur mixed martial arts fights in November and December, respectively, until both fights were cancelled.

Ex-UFC middleweight contender and former WEC middleweight champion, Joe Riggs posted sparring footage of himself recently, taking on an unknown opponent who apparently donned himself as the “best bare knuckle boxer in the world”.

Riggs, an alum of the UFC, WEC, Strikeforce, Bellator, King of the Cage, and M-1 Global to name a few, last competed professionally in October of this year against UFC lightweight veteran, Melvin Guillard – stopping the New Orleans native with a one-sided opening minute knockout at BKFC Fight Night: Montana.

The 39-year-old Maine veteran boasts a 4-1-1 bare knuckle boxing record, competing five times under the aforenoted, David Feldman-led Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship banner.

In his promotional bow, the former UFC middleweight took a win over Brok Weaver, before taking a subsequent decision win against Heriberto Tovar. Rigg’s sole BKFC loss came against another ex-UFC middleweight, Hector Lombard in the form of a June doctor’s stoppage at BKFC 18.

Posting a video on his official Instagram this month, Riggs shares footage of his impromptu bare knuckle boxing match with the aforenoted “best bare knuckle boxer in the world” – in which he drops the man on at least six separate occasions over the course of the two-minute video.

When boys come to play with men,” Joe Riggs’ post read. “This guy came in day after day talking sh*t, saying he’s the best bareknuckle boxer in the world, we wanted to give him a taste of what he was asking for.

Joe Riggs boasts an extensive combat sports record, having competed for the likes of the UFC, WEC, and Bellator

A former WEC middleweight champion, Riggs bested Rob Kimmons with a first round submission to punches win at WEC 15 before making his move to the UFC in 2005.

During his run with the organization, Riggs landed victories against Chris Lytle, Nick Diaz, Jason Von Flue.

49-19 as a professional mixed martial artist, Riggs’ most recent outing came under the Ring of Combat banner back in November 2019 where he featured in an eventual ‘No Contest’ against George Sullivan.

Recent UFC Vegas 45 headliner, Derrick Lewis was pulled over in his vehicle during a traffic stop, and despite finding himself on the receiving end of a ticket from the officer, has taken the chance to poke fun at former law enforcement officer and Saturday’s opponent, Chris Daukaus, claiming he’s now “2-0” against law enforcement in the space of a week.

New Orleans-born fan favorite, Lewis headlined UFC Vegas 45 last weekend in the promotion’s final event of the year, stopping the aforenoted Philadelphia native, Daukaus with an impressive opening round knockout win.

The victory rebounded Lewis to the winner’s enclosure following a UFC 265 interim heavyweight title challenger loss to Ciryl Gane in Houston, Texas.

Crashing forward and clipping Daukaus during a brief clinch exchange, Lewis then dropped the Pennsylvania native at the Octagon strikes in the opening round – earning his stunning twenty first career knockout win, and his thirteenth in his UFC tenure – the most in the entire history of the organization.

Posting a video on his social media today, Lewis, the #3 ranked heavyweight contender, Lewis is in the middle of a traffic stop, for apparently not displaying a license plate on the front of his vehicle.

Upon the responding officer issuing him just a ticket for the infringement, Lewis pointed the camera toward himself, saying, “Alright, Chris Daukaus – I’m still 2-0,” Derrick Lewis said. “He just gave me a warning. You tried it.

Off the back of his stoppage win over Daukaus, Lewis maintained that he was still interested in fighting for the promotion’s heavyweight title, however, hoped the promotion would make an exception for him and stage any potential fight over the course of three rounds.

With past-foes, Francis Ngannou and Gane set to meet next month in a heavyweight title unification bout at UFC 270 – Lewis has claimed he would be as ready as possible to serve as a backup should the organization require his services on short notice.

If it’s going to be co-main event – we’ll see,” Derrick Lewis told MMA Junkie post-fight. “I guess. We’ll see, man. I guess, man. I just told y’all I don’t want any more of those five rounds. I want the money. We’ll see. I guess I’ll be ready. Somewhat.
