Former undisputed UFC featherweight champion, Max Holloway has solidied his status as the #1 ranked contender in the promotion’s division — outlasting the #3 ranked challenger, Yair Rodriguez with a unanimous decision victory in a true Fight of the Year contender to close out UFC Vegas 42.
Starting brightly against the former champion, Holloway in the opening two rounds — Rodriguez consistently chopped away at Holloway’s orthodox lead with a series of thudding calf kicks, as well as firing out decent hands in the close quarters of the bout.
However, as per usual it seems when discussing a fight involving the Hawaiian, Holloway began to pour on the pressure from the third frame onward, scoring a takedown after Rodriguez appeared to injury his left foot from a miscued calf kick attempt.
From there on out, Holloway began to extend his lead over the Chihuahua native on the judge’s scorecards to land his second consecutive unanimous decision victory. Off the back of the win, Holloway maintained he was in pole position to meet with former two-weight gold holder, Conor McGregor in a rematch, although a featherweight title trilogy bout with Alexander Volkanovski also looms large.
Below, catch the highlights from Holloway’s judging win over Rodriguez.

Rising welterweight contender, Khaos Williams was forced to the third round against Miguel Baeza — and even faced some worrying adversity of his own before landing a stunning knockout victory with just over a minute elapsed in the final frame.
Williams, a renowned knockout artist, found himself almost trapped in a nasty heel hook and a kneebar with a minute remaining in the first frame, but managed to successfully defend from the dynamic Baeza, as well as landing a couple of heavy ground strikes as Baeza attacked his lower limbs.
Preventing the judge’s involvement for the third time in his five Octagon walks, Williams rushed forward during a firefight early in the third with Baeza — cracking the latter with a winging right hook, flattening him to score his seventh career knockout triumph from a total 13 career wins.

Improving to 4-1 in the UFC following a UFC 254 submission win over Joe Duffy in October of last year, Alvarez is likely to upsurp Moises as the #15 ranked contender at lightweight next week upon the release of the rankings — stopping the American Top Team trainee with a series of elbows and strikes at the fence.

Gabriel Silva, the son of former UFC middleweight kingpin, Anderson Silva competed alongside his brother, Kalyl Silva at an amateur kickboxing event over the last weekend — however, the former was unable to follow in the footsteps of his sibling, as he suffered a first round knockout defeat.
Featuring at a FightersRep billed FightersRep 11 event in Los Angeles, California on November 5. — Kalyl Silva, who recently scored a viral knockout in his amateur kickboxing debut, managed to take home a unanimous decision victory over Melo Pamuk, competing for the first time since the staggering 8-second knockout stoppage.
However, Kalyl’s brother, Gabriel Silva would compete just moments after his sibling’s unanimous judging success — suffering a massive opening round knockout loss to Vincent Familari in an IKF light middleweight championship.
Gabriel Silva suffers brutal first round knockout loss in amateur kickboxing clash
“I knew that I had to stay on him, I couldn’t let him recover,” Vincent Familari said of opponent, Gabriel Silva post-fight. “I mean, the guy’s [Gabriel Silva] good. He could easily beat me, but God was with us on this victory. He blessed us. Much respect to my opponent, his camp, and everybody else, but we did it. We pulled through.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)
The victory for Familari improved his amateur record to 10-1 — while Silva suffered his first amateur loss as his record slipped to 5-1 from six outings.
As for Kalyl and Gabriel Silva’s father, former UFC middleweight destroyer, Anderson Silva, the Brazilian icon made a successful return to the professional boxing ring this year following his departure from the UFC last year — taking home a June split decision victory over former boxing world champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Fighting as part of a Triller Fight Club promoted event in September, Silva stopped former UFC light heavyweight champion, Tito Ortiz with a one-sided first round knockout in an originally slated professional boxing match which was then subsequently altered to an exhibition matchup. Silva has since been linked with a professional boxing match against YouTube content creator, Logan Paul — which has yet to materialize at the time of publication.
