Nigerian light heavyweight division prospect, Kennedy Nzechukwu has landed his second Octagon victory of the year in his first headlining outing under the UFC banner, stopping Ion Cutelaba in a rallying performance in the main event of UFC Vegas 65.
Initially slated to co-headline the event against Cutelaba, Nzechukwu was promoted to main event honors after initial headliner, Derrick Lewis was forced from his heavyweight fight against Sergey Spivak due to medical issues.
Giving up the opening round against a grappling and wrestling-heavy approach from Cutelaba, Nzechukwu capitalized on a couple of well-placed step-in knee strikes in the second round.
Steaming forward as Cutelaba wobbled, a subsequent barrage of ground strikes at the fence felled Cutalaba, with referee, Keith Petersen eventually calling a halt to the action.

South Korean heavyweight contender, Da Un Jung made relatively short work of his Nigerian division counterpart, Kennedy Nzechukwu to open the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 42 — stopping him with a series of first round standing elbows at the Octagon fence.
Scoring his fourth Octagon victory and second consecutively, Jung managed to sting and stun Nzechukwu with shots in the center, before unloading with a series of standing elbows, eventually forcing Nzechukwu back to the Octagon fence where he forced the stoppage. Jung now holds UFC wins over the quartet of Nzechukwu, William Knight, Mike Rodriguez, and Khadis Ibrahimov.

Imo State-born striker, Kennedy ‘African Savage’ Nzechukwu was once more forced to rally from some early round adversity — and answered those questions once more in the form of a rallying third round knockout victory over Brazilian grappler, Danilo Marques in the featured prelim bout of UFC Vegas 30. Now undefeated in his last three […]
Now undefeated in his last three and improving to 9-1 as a professional, Nzechukwu gave up his back early in the first round against Marques, who climbed from a standing position and locked a body triangle at the fence, arguably taking the frame with a 10-8 margain.
In the second, Marques was once more able to utilise his grappling, but appeared to be fatiguing quite drastically. In the opening seconds of the third round, Marques was backed up to the Octagon fence himself as Nzechukwu began unloading with winging hooks and straights. As a sitting duck shelling up, Marques was left in no position to continue, with referee, Jason Herzog separating the two — handing Nzechukwu his second consecutive knockout win.
Below, catch the highlights from Nzechukwu’s rallying effort against Marques.
