Drogheda fan-favorite, Ciaran Clarke continues his knack of rallying at the 3Arena in front of a partisan crowd in the capital, this time rebounding from an opening round knockdown to eventually force a submission win over short-notice opponent, Rafael Hudson at Bellator 285.

Clarke, who entered fight week boasting an undefeated 5-0 professional record, was also scheduled to land himself a fight with Georges Sanu, however, the pairing was shelved during the week with unknown Brazilian newcomer, Hudson replacing Sanu.

Surprising Clarke and the entire 3Arena reception, Hudson managed to score a knockdown on the former in the opening frame, however, the Straight Blast Gym staple managed to rally as in almost patented fashion — forcing grappling scrambles on cue throughout the second and third round.

In a third round grappling exchange, Clarke managed to secure hooks and then transitioned to a body triangle, eventually forcing a tap from Hudson as the onlooking crowd erupted at the Drogheda man’s victory.

Kicking-off tonight’s Bellator 285 card from the 3Arena, welterweight, Luca Poclit managed to land a truly peculiar submission win over opponent, Dante Schiro — choking the latter unconscious with a second round effort.

Sharing the cage for the first fight of the promotion’s return to the Irish capital, Poclit and Schiro enjoyed an even stand-up affair in the opening frame, however, the former would find his own in the grappling scrambles.

Furthermore so, forcing a scramble at the fence in the second round, Poclit, who now improves to 7-1 as a professional, managed to lck up a quite rare and surprising submission on Schiro, choking the latter unconscious with a truly innovative finish.

Decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace, Gordon Ryan has become the first in competition history to clinch gold in three separate weight divisions at ADCC, clinching the 2022 super-fight championship courtesy of a rear-naked choke win over decorated Brazilian rival, Andre Galvao in Las Vegas, Nevada over the course of the weekend.

Ryan, 27, a native of New Jersey, managed to improve his submission grappling record to 152-9-3 over the course of the weekend in ‘Sin City’ – dispatching Heikki Jussila, Victor Hugo, Roosevelt Souza, and Nick Rodriguez, en route to his rear-naked choke win over Brazilian grappling favorite, Galvao. 

With four minutes remaining following a period of dominant control, Gordon Ryan, who was 12-0 up against six-time ADCC championship victor, Galvao, managed to land a massive rear-naked choke win over the soon-to-be 40-year-old, with Ryan nabbing his fifth title under the ADCC banner, as well as capping off his undefeated weekend with the super-fight championship title. 

Sharing the mats following years of speculation regarding a potential tangle, Ryan and Galvao have shared a distinct rivalry in that time to boot, with the two involved in a rather high-profile physical altercation last year, with the former appearing to slap Galvao during an engagement. 

With the stunning submission win over Sao Paulo native, Galvao, Ryan now holds a staggering 128 separate submission wins as a professional – throughout a decorated submission grappling career.

Linked with a potential debut in professional mixed martial arts, Gordon Ryan penned a multi-fight deal with the Chatri Sityodtong-led ONE Championship back in March of last year, and was open to the possibility of competing in both combat sports and submission grappling. At the time of publication, Ryan has yet to make his debut in professional mixed martial arts competition.

Former UFC and Pride FC feature, decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Renzo Gracie, is alleged to have been involved in an altercation at a New York City subway station, with footage showing two persons grappling on the floor of a platform. 

Gracie, 55, a native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – featured just once under the Dana White-led UFC banner back in April 2010 against former undisputed welterweight champion, Matt Hughes, suffering a third round knockout loss.

Last competing professionally back in July 2018 at ONE Championship: Reigns of Kings, Gracie submitted Yuki Kondo with a second round rear-naked choke in Manilla.

Boasting a 14-7-1(1) professional record, Renzo Gracie, who has also competed under the banner of Rings, Pride FC, IFL, EliteXC, and K-1 to name a few, holds notable career victories over the likes of Frank Shamrock, Carlos Newton, Pat Miletich, Maurice Smith, and Oleg Taktarov to name a few. 

A 6th degree Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Carlos Gracie Jr. and Rickson Gracie, Renzo Gracie has offered his tutelage to the likes of Georges St-Pierre, Frankie Edgar, Chris Weidman, John Danaher, Ricardo Almeida, and actor, Guy Richie to name a few.

While details of the alleged altercation are yet to surface, commenters across Twitter alleged that Gracie was the subject of a verbal attack after he spoke Portuguese, the native language of Brazil, according to ‘Choke Lab’ on Instagram.

“Video footage of Martial Arts legend, Renzo Gracie in an altercation on the platform of a New York City subway station,” Choke Lab posted on Instagram. “After coming back from an academy, Gracie was having a conversation with a fellow black belt and staff members when he was confronted for speaking Portuguese with his friends. Based off of information we retrieved from an audio recording on WhatsApp, Gracie stated the the aggressor was a black/dark skinned man who was yelling at him to “speak English here”. In the audio recording Gracie stated that the young man accused him of speaking bad about him in Portuguese.”

“A fight ensued. According to Gracie the man begged to be leg go from a Kata Gatame saying “I cant’ breathe, I can’t breathe”. While controlling him, Gracie made the assailant apologize and released him, saying, “you see, you’re a nice guy. Why are you doing this? Why are you so impolite?”

Gracie was previously charged with a misdemeanour assault back in 2014 in the state of New York after he was involved in an altercation with a bouncer, in which the latter required hospitalization to treat a fractured arm.

Things got vicious at Cage Titans 55 when one amateur MMA fighter got his arm snapped almost instantly by a devastating keylock submission by Kyle Pavao.

Typically joint-lock submissions result in a tap, but in rare occurrences a tap doesn’t come in time, and the phrase “Tap or snap” truly comes into play. At Cage Titans 55 this would be the case for one very unfortunate fighter, as Pavao’s keylock would be too swift for Wayne Downer.

As seen in the video, Downer is in bottom side control, and uses his feet to attempt to transition back to his feet. Kyle Pavao, however, seemed prepared. Already fishing for the keylock, the sporadic scramble created the perfect opportunity for him to sink it in. A tap should’ve been imminent, but both fighters were still in motion, and you can see how momentum comes into play to aid in the submission attempt.

Without hesitation, Pavao continues to crank and the result is inevitable: a grusome snap. After the damage is done, Kyle Pavao can be seen celebrating his victory, attempting to check on his opponent but stopped short by a ringside official.

In a massive statement-making performance, Fortis MMA kickboxer, Geoff Neal turns in his best UFC performance to date — becoming the first competitor to finish New Jersey-born welterweight, Vicente Luque with strikes in the latter’s professional career, in tonight’s UFC Vegas 59 co-headliner.

Neal, who recently snapped a run of two straight losses to both Stephen Thompson, and Neil Magny, with a close, split decision win over Santiago Ponzinibbio, becomes the first man to finish Luque with strikes tonight — bludgeoning the Kill Cliff FC staple over the course of three rounds.

Bloodying Luque on the feet and landing with ferocity on each occasion, Neal eventually got the ever-gritty #6 ranked Luque out of there in the third round of their co-main event slot, colliding with him at the Octagon fence, before launching a flurry of uppercut strikes, and felling Luque with a straight shot.

Following the victory, Neal called out Luque’s Kill Cliff FC teammate, one-time welterweight title challenger, Gilbert Burns next.
