A major reason for the rapid growth is credited to the fighters who spend hours upon hours dedicating their lives for the opportunity of one day becoming great. Siyar Bahadurzada Signs with UFC, Faces Erick Silva at UFC 142 in Rio

(Bahadurzada v. Alessio, United Glory 2010 World Semifinals)

News broke earlier today that Golden Glory standout and Team Mayhem striking coach Siyar Bahadurzada has signed with the UFC and will be facing Erick Silva at UFC 142 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on January 14th. Bahadurzada, who has compiled a respectable 20-4 record with wins over John Alessio, Derrick Noble, and Evangelista Santos (by injury) will be looking to showcase his hands against Silva, who most recently plastered Luis Ramos in under a minute at UFC 134.

Bahadurzada last competed in Russia back in May, where he capped off a devastating run through the United Glory 2010 World Series with a second round TKO over Tommy Depret to take home the gold. Well, it was more then likely coal, but you get what I’m saying. Anyway, Bahadurzada hasn’t tasted defeat since two-time UFC washout Jorge Santiago heel hooked him back at a 2008 Sengoku event.

As a bonus, I’ve included Siyar’s quarterfinal match against Derrick Noble and his championship-earning victory over Depret after the jump.

Video Roundup: Bellator 57?s Quick Finishes

(Props, as always, to ZombieProphet over at IronForgesIron.)

UFC on Fox wasn’t the only event this past weekend to feature a couple quick finishers *snicker* doing what they do best. In fact, an undercard fight from Saturday’s Bellator 57 card was over so fast that it made Dos Santos/Velasquez look like Severn/Shamrock 2.

With 7 of his 8 wins coming within the first round (and 5 of those 7 coming within the first 2 minutes!), Josh Shockley was looking to employ an atypical “jab & jog” type strategy against Eric Moon, but “The Monster” would not be having any of that shit, thank you very much. Moon waited approximately 25 seconds before bull rushing into his first takedown attempt like a drunken frat boy chasing a frisbee that is clearly out of his reach. The problem with such an obviously telegraphed double-leg however, is that it gives someone with even below-average reflexes the time to grab that neck, stuff you in a wooden chest, and have a cocktail party around your rotting corpse.

As soon as Shockley locks in a standing guillotine, Moon quits faster than Kim Kardashian (sorry folks, been holding that one in for a while), giving Shockley the victory in just 35 seconds and nearly erasing the memory of his BFC 36 loss to Toby Imada. Even more impressive is the fact that this was not even Shockley’s quickest victory, which was a 15 second TKO via slam back in 2008.

Join us after the jump for the controversial Sledzion/Solomon fight, and the Van Buren and Bezzera submissions:

Stout/Tavares & Barboza/Etim Booked for UFC 142 in Rio

(Don’t be fooled by its innocent exterior, the Stout will knock you out quicker than you can say “10.6 percent.”)

A pair of lightweight contests have recently been announced for the UFC’s return to Brazil this January. Fresh off his lightning quick victory over Edward Faaloloto at UFC 138, Terry Etim will be taking a big step up in competition when he faces Brazilian phenom Edson Barboza.

Barboza has gone 3-0 in his UFC career, notching wins over TUF 9 winner Ross Pearson and WEC KO artist Anthony Njokuani. Etim, on the other hand, had rattled off four victories in his last five fights before being sidelined by a rib injury for over a year. Having fought six of his nine UFC contests on his home soil, it will be interesting to see how Etim reacts to the foreign crowd, especially one that has shown the capacity to commit bloodshed before.

UFC 142 will also feature the return of Canadian UFC veteran Sam Stout, who, after knocking out Yves Edwards in brutal fashion at UFC 131, reluctantly pulled out from his UFC 137 contest with Dennis Siver in the wake of trainer Shawn Tompkins’ death. Stout will be taking on fellow UFC vet Thiago Tavares, who recently rebounded from a knockout loss to Shane Roller back at UFC Live 3 with a TKO of his own over Spencer Fisher at UFC 134. Fun fact, both men have fought 11 times in the UFC, with Stout coming away 7-4  and Tavares 6-4-1.

UFC 142 is set to go down January 14th at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
