Jose Aldo is already one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in all of MMA, but the 25-year-old has had trouble continuing his dominant streak since entering the UFC. While with the WEC, Aldo appeared unbeatable, but back-to-back decision victories over Mark Hominick and Kenny Florian have the Brazilian looking human.

As the division’s top contender, Chad Mendes will attempt to dethrone Aldo from his perch atop the 145-pound division. A member of past Aldo opponent Urijah Faber’s Team Alpha Male, and an elite amateur wrestler, Mendes seems to have the tools to defeat the champion.

This Saturday, Aldo and Mendes will square off in the main event of UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once the event is underway from the HSBC Arena at approximately 7:00 p.m. ET, Bleacher Report will provide live results below and in-depth recaps of each fight on the following pages of this slideshow.

Perhaps the biggest event in the history of mixed martial arts is now complete after an exciting main event between Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight championship of the world. Bleacher Report is here with this and the rest of the winners and losers from tonight’s monumental fight card.

The UFC made its network television return tonight on FOX with this extremely important fight. As UFC President Dana White said in the pre-fight analysis, it was important for the organization to put its “best foot forward.”

It did just that.

The main event was obviously the main course, but the appetizers were amazing tonight as well.

So without further, let’s take a look at the real winners and losers from what was perhaps the most important night in the history of the entire sport of mixed martial arts.

Birmingham, England played host to tonight’s UFC 138 event headlined by Mark Muñoz and Chris Leben. “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” defeated “The Crippler” by doctor’s stoppage between the second and third rounds.

It wasn’t the most stacked event ever, but it was definitely a card worth watching with an entertaining main event.

Like most MMA events, tonight proved again that you don’t necessarily have to be involved in the fight card to be affected by its outcome. The real winners and losers often don’t show up in the record books, and tonight was no different as many outsiders were affected.

With that said, let’s take a closer look at UFC 138: Muñoz vs. Leben and examine who the real winners and losers were.

Jon “Bones” Jones is your reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, and in the minds of his supporters, it’s not hard to envision him as the MMA World Light Heavyweight Champion if he should ever face and defeat Dan Henderson after a win over former training partner “Suga” Rashad Evans.

However, that fight with Henderson doesn’t come until after a win over Evans, and Henderson’s meeting with Jones only happens if two things happen, the first of which is something on Jones’ end in the form of an old rival of Henderson.

Maybe you’ve heard of this man: his name is Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion of the world, only man to defeat Chuck Liddell twice, and the only guy to score a (still-controversial) decision win over Lyoto Machida.

Real simple, MMA World: Jones has the belt, Rampage wants the belt, Rashad wants the winner, and Henderson wants to become the first UFC fighter to knock out Mauricio “Shogun” Rua without having to hear about a long layoff or ring rust afterwards, but first up is the biggest test of Jones’ career in Denver, Colorado.

Also up for huge testing is Josh Koscheck, who faces UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes in what is Hughes’ last fight under UFC contract, but despite not having fought in a year himself, Koscheck could be the man known as the man who ended Hughes’ UFC career on a sour note.

All this, plus Dana White‘s beautifully polished cranium is right here, as this is UFC 135, right here on Bleacher Report MMA!
