Both McGregor and Mayweather took to social media to confirm the news that both combat sports mega-stars have inked their names to a contract for the August 26th bout in Las Vegas. As for the details that everyone wants to know, UFC President Dana White recently took to TMZ to clear a few things up.

The UFC boss said that the fight will go down at the T-Mobile Arena, both men will be tested by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), and both men will be wearing 10 ounce gloves over a span of 12 rounds at 155 pounds:

“The fight will be a 12 round boxing match. Both guys will use 10 ounce gloves. They will fight at 154 pounds.

“The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena. Ticket prices have not been set yet.

“There WILL be an undercard — it will be boxing and Mayweather Promotions will handle the matchmaking.

“We asked Dana if there was a possibility Roy Jones Jr. will fight Anderson Silva — he told us, “I highly doubt it.”

“Both Floyd and Conor will be tested by USADA for performance enhancing drugs.

“Dana says he expects Conor to make around $100 million for the fight but wouldn’t break down the financials.

“Dana says he spoke with Conor Wednesday morning — he’s VERY excited. Conor also believes with all his heart he will knock Mayweather out.”

The combat sports world got flipped upside down earlier today (June 14, 2017) as it was announced that a boxing superfight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was finalized.

For nearly a year the potential superfight was the talk of both the boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) world, and it was finally made official by both Conor McGregor and Mayweather on social media. Mayweather took to Instagram to post a small video promoting the fight, putting he and McGregor side-by-side with the official date plastered below:

Mayweather’s last bout inside the boxing ring saw him take home a unanimous decision win over Andre Berto in September of 2015, and announced his retirement from boxing competition with an undefeated record of 49-0. Much was made as to why “Money” didn’t go for the big 50th win, but all that is about to change when he meets McGregor inside the squared circle.

Although he was a youth champion back in Ireland in his teens, McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing fight in his combat sports career. His first will be against arguably the greatest to ever lace up a pair of gloves. “The Notorious One” was last seen inside the Octagon when he defeated Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November.

The win earned McGregor the lightweight title, making him the first dual-weight champion in the promotion’s history. He has since taken time off from fighting to enjoy the birth of his first child, but all that will change when he steps into the ring on August 26th.

It’s about to go down.

The mega-fight between UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is reportedly set to go down on August 26th in Las Vegas, Nevada, per a report from Yahoo Sports.

The official terms of the deal were not revealed, however, the report suggests that “Money” could make the fight official via social media as early as today (Wed. June 14, 2017). No venue has beet set in stone either, as the MGM Grand and T-Mobile Arena are the obvious leading candidates.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) approved Mayweather Promotions for an August 26th slot at the MGM, but it could easily be changed to T-Mobile. Yahoo Sports was unable to reach UFC president Dana White, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe or Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza regarding the announcement.

The twists and turns continue to pour through in the saga between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The combat sports mega-stars have been lobbying for a boxing superfight for quite some time now, and it’s looking more and more like the colossal event will transpire later this year. The UFC and McGregor have already struck a deal on the Irishman’s side of things for the fight, and all that remains is for the UFC to negotiate with “Money” before getting the two into the ring.

According to a report from the Los Angeles Times’ Lance Pugmire, however, thos negotiations will not involve UFC President Dana White. An unnamed source tells Pugmire that the UFC boss will not be involved in negotiations with Mayweather and manager Al Haymon, but dealings will instead be handled by the UFC’s ownership group WME-IMG.

This comes as a bit of a surprise given White said last month that he has been working on Mayweather’s side of things and was very much involved in negotiations with “The Notorious One”:

“As soon as [McGregor’s side] is done, we go to work. It will be me and (Al) Haymon, in Vegas or LA,” White told ESPN.

It seems as though WME-IMG frontman Ari Emanuel will not be handling the negotiations for the mega-fight from here, with a Fall pay-per-view (PPV) date being the target for the bout. If the two sides are able to come to an agreement to make the fight happen, it will certainly be one of the biggest combat sporting events of the decade.

Last week Oscar De La Hoya wrote a lengthy letter explaining why he is against the idea of allowing a superfight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor inside a boxing ring.

De La Hoya feels that Mayweather’s highly-anticipated bout with Manny Pacquiao, which turned out to be a 12 round snooze fest, dug boxing into a deep hole. He feels that a bout between McGregor and Mayweather would bury it even deeper.

McGregor vs. Mayweather is only one of two of the most highly-anticipated boxing fights of the year, as Saul “Canelo” Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin is set to go down on September 16th – a fight De La Hoya himself is set to promote. The September date was originally the target date for the McGregor vs. Mayweather fight, per UFC President Dana White.

White took to Twitter earlier today (Wed. May 31, 2017) to comment on De La Hoya’s comments regarding McGregor vs. Mayweather, sharing a video that showed De La Hoya singing a different tune when the possibility of Conor McGregor fighting Canelo Alvarez was brought up (quotes via FOX Sports):

“To me, it will be a disrespect for boxing if a UFC fighter who has zero experience in boxing came and fought Floyd Mayweather,” De La Hoya said in the video posted by White on Twitter.

“Imagine Conor McGregor and Golden Boy [Promotions] coming together. The only fight that I would love to see and it’s the one that makes the most sense, that would be the most exciting, that would be a guaranteed knockout is against “Canelo” Alvarez,” De La Hoya said.

Although McGregor vs. Mayweather has been highly criticized by boxing purists, the anticipation for the event greatly outweighs the hate, and the bout is expected to be the biggest combat sporting event of all time. When two of the biggest cash cows in the history of fighting go head-to-head, a ton of cash is certain to be drawn towards “Money” and “The Notorious One’s” way.
