UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor likes to spend his money.

‘The Notorious One’s’ latest edition to The Mac Life video library featured him taking a private jet ride to California, where he cruised the streets in his luxury vehicle. He then stopped by Dolce & Gabbana to check out some of the finest material to dress himself in.

McGregor’s California trip comes on the cusp of rumors that he and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. are attempting to set up a mega superfight inside the boxing ring. The UFC 155-pound champ has already gotten his license to lace up the gloves in California, and is looking to do the same in Las Vegas.

In his last Octagon appearance McGregor made UFC history by defeating Eddie Alvarez in the UFC’s first ever show in New York City form Madison Square Garden, becoming the first ever dual-weight champ in promotion history. After the hefty payday the Irish knockout artist has been very active on social media flaunting his newfound wealth, much like Mayweather who also has a reputation for spending big cheddar.

Freddie Roach is on board for Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather.

The legendary boxing coach joined MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani on today’s (Mon. February 20, 2017) episode of The MMA Hour (quotes via MMA Mania) and revealed that ‘Money’ actually stopped by his gym to reveal to him that he will be fighting ‘The Notorious One’:

“Floyd actually came to my gym and told me, Freddie, I hear Conor talked to you.’ And I told him that he never has. He said, ‘If he reaches out and wants you to train him, I would take that job because I am going to fight him and we can all make a lot of money,’” said Freddie.

“So, according to Mayweather, yes, he said he was going to fight him and everything is pointing in that direction. At one point I didn’t think it was possible. I tried to make a fight one time when I was training Andrei Arlovski, and I tried to put him in with one of the Klitschkos,” said Roach.

“I thought I had a good idea. I went into Ari’s office, and I hadn’t seen Ari in 10 years. At that time they said it would never happen. But, we’re in a different era now and it looks like it is going to happen. Everything’s pointing in the right direction. He will have his hands full with a boxer like Floyd, but he’s sell-able and making noise. For a while I wanted him to be Georges first fight.”

McGregor has only lost one fight in his UFC tenure, a short-notice bout with Nate Diaz at 170 pounds, and has won all but two of his Octagon victories via knockout. This past November the Irishman became the first dual-weight champion in UFC history by defeating Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their historic main event meeting for the lightweight title at Madison Square Garden.

While his striking may be viewed as some of the most elite in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA) he’s staring at a possible boxing superfight against arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all time. Roach believes McGregor certainly has a puncher’s chance against Mayweather, but says he would need a long time to prepare for a boxer the caliber of ‘Money’:

“Well, he is a pretty good striker. The thing is, Floyd is a great boxer. He is good at hitting and not getting hit. It would take a long time for Conor to get ready for a pure boxing match, But, one punch can change anything, so I am not going to count him out completely. Mayweather is the favorite, yes, but I will never count anyone out. He (McGregor) throws, he throws hard and he’s not afraid to throw,” said Roach. “I like that about him. He’s sell-able, and he makes me laugh. But, when that bell rings he better be ready because he is fighting one of the best boxers of his era.”

Mayweather hasn’t boxed since his 2015 unanimous decision win over Andre Berto where he extended his historic win streak to 49-0. He has remained ‘happily retired’ since the bout but is more than willing to step back into the squared circle if the paycheck is to his liking.

To step into the ring against a young combat sports star such as McGregor, with a left hand that has been the downfall of many of his adversaries, could Floyd be taking an unnecessary risk towards his legacy if he decides to fight the UFC lightweight champ?

The saga continues.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. continue to hype up their potential superfight boxing match that has been rumored for almost a year now. With reports circulating the newswire this week that the two have come to terms for the potential fight, no official confirmation has come from either star’s camp.

Recently TMZ Sports caught up with McGregor once again to get an update on the potential throw-down between the two brash rivals, to which McGregor revealed that he showed up to Las Vegas earlier this week to enter negotiations for the bout but ‘Money’ never showed up to the table (quotes via MMA Mania):

“Floyd’s a bitch and he’s petrified,” said McGregor. “I flew to Las Vegas and he didn’t show his face. As soon as I touched down in Las Vegas he retired twice.”

“Brush up, you’re not up to speed,” added McGregor when asked about fighting Mayweather in Ireland. “A lot has happened over these last couple of days.”

Mayweather recently stated that he is ‘happily retired’ at the moment but prompted McGregor to handle his business with the UFC if he truly does want to make the fight happen. The combat sports world seems to be divided when it comes to the question of whether or not they do want to see the fight go down. What’s your stance on the matter?

Conor McGregor has a lot on his plate today (Tues. February 14, 2017) for his business trip to Las Vegas.

With rumors running rampant that a highly-anticipated superfight between McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is close to being finalized, ‘The Notorious One’ finds himself in ‘Sin City’ today to perhaps get one step closer to making the blockbuster bout happen.

According to a report from MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani, McGregor is in town to clear up an issue with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), speak to Mayweather’s ‘The Money Team’, and then attend a meeting with the UFC:

Amongst the madness McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, also took to Twitter to tease that some ‘big announcements’ are imminent:

The UFC lightweight champ won the strap back in his last Octagon appearance in the main event of UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden, where he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round to become the first ever dual-weight champion in promotion history. Now just four months later in the co-main event of UFC 209 live on pay-per-view (PPV), No. 1 and 2-ranked lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson will collide for the interim title.

If McGregor does indeed step into the boxing ring with Floyd Mayweather for his next combat sports competition, it is highly possible that the future first-time father will walk off into the sunset with a boat-load of cash.

Do you think McGregor will ever fight under the UFC banner again? And will the fight with Mayweather really come to fruition?

Conor McGregor can knock out Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match. That is according to at least on respected mixed martial arts (MMA) coach who has witnessed McGregor’s work first-hand.

Former UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez’s head-coach, Mark Henry, recently spoke to Chisanga Malata of The Daily Star UK and stated that he believes ‘The Notorious One’ has all the attributes to get ‘Money’ out of the ring early if the two men met in a boxing superfight. McGregor knocked out Henry’s pupil, Alvarez, in the second round of their title bout at UFC 205 this past November, to become the first dual-weight champion in UFC history.

After having seen what McGregor’s ‘unbelievable’ striking ability can do, Henry is convinced the Irish knockout artist can finish Mayweather in his own backyard within the first three or four rounds:

“All credit to Conor that he hit him from the beginning early and rocked him,” Henry said. “It’s like I said, the swing that he has is unbelievable.”

“I think he would have the possibility of knocking out Mayweather. He’s way bigger than Mayweather too. Boxers only cut about ten pounds, whereas Conor probably walks around at 173lbs. So he’s also a lot bigger than Mayweather too. I even think he has a chance of knocking out Mayweather if it was in the first three to four rounds. After that, I’d definitely give the edge to Mayweather.”

McGregor’s only prior boxing experience comes at the amateur level, however, he continues to pursue the big money fight with Mayweather by obtaining his boxing license in the state of California, with Nevada now in his sights next:

“You know Conor, his defence isn’t as good as Mayweather. But Conor’s speed, power, and precision is unbelievable,” he said. “After watching that fight, I’d even give a possible chance of knocking out Mayweather early. I don’t think it’d go his way, but I definitely give him the chance of a KO because his power isn’t something I’ve seen (before).”

Do you agree with Henry? Does ‘The Notorious One’ really stand a chance against Mayweather inside the squared circle?
