Floyd Mayweather Jr. is ready to get back to boxing action, as he recently announced he’s coming out of retirement in 2020 to fight again.

Initial reports suggest Mayweather is eying a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, before a “UFC crossover” fight, which likely means he looks to box a UFC star. Speaking to FightHubTV, Floyd Mayweather Sr. noted that he usually talks to his son, but hasn’t heard anything on the matter from him yet. (H/T MMA Mania)

”We usually talk but I ain’t heard nothing from him,” Mayweather Sr. said. “It’s a big surprise to me.”

Mayweather Sr. then expresses his concern that his son might try and fight inside the UFC’s Octagon. He said he’d “whup” UFC president Dana White if he allowed Mayweather Jr. to fight inside the MMA cage.

”I don’t want … it ain’t the same,” Mayweather Sr. said. “It’s not the same, I’m just saying. You got things that Floyd can do, a lot of other things other than … and they said he was saying something about getting into that … what that thing called? [The Octagon].

“It better not be the MMA. You don’t think Floyd would take nothing like that?” Mayweather Sr. asked with a smile. “I don’t think he’d take it either because I’d go in there and whup Dana White’s ass! F**k yeah I will.

“I’d whup the s**t out of him. Even though Floyd is a grown man, I’d be the grown one that’d take over that. Sure will.”

Do you think there’s a chance Mayweather considers fighting in the UFC?

The news surrounding Conor McGregor recently was about his assault of an old man in an Irish pub. But things would go differently if he tried that on Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Footage from April emerged of McGregor assaulting an old man for not drinking his Proper 12 whiskey. The Irishman has since apologized for the incident in a wide-ranging interview with ESPN — however, many believe it’s damage control as many fans have been turned off by McGregor’s actions outside the Octagon.

But what would happen if he attempted that on Mayweather Sr.? The father of “Money” started shadowboxing when asked by TMZ before claiming he would whip McGregor’s a*s even if he was double his age:

“I’d beat the s**t out of Conor,” Mayweather Sr. said. “I would beat the s**t out of Conor right now. I’m double his age and I’d whoop his ass.”

It’s not the first time Mayweather Sr. has made that claim. In fact, he said the very same thing before his son collided with McGregor in their lucrative boxing match two years ago.

Do you think Mayweather Sr. could handle McGregor in a fight?

Mayweather vs. McGregor 2 Is Coming? Floyd’s Father Thinks So

Floyd Senior believes it’s just a matter of time before it happens again.

Mayweather vs. McGregor 2 has been speculated by fight fans and fighters since their first bout went down in 2017. There have even been reports about the fight potentially going down to the point where early betting odds were released.

The first boxing match between these fighters took place last August in Las Vegas, Nevada and aired live on PPV (pay-per-view) for the low price of $100 for HD and $90 for SD.

As seen in the fight, the UFC champion did show some good things in the ring considering that it was his first outing as a professional. However, he ultimately lost by TKO in the tenth round.

This rematch wouldn’t take place inside of a boxing ring but instead the Octagon, which was based on rumors in early 2018. Obviously, that is not going down as McGregor is slated to challenge for the UFC lightweight title at the UFC 229 PPV event.

Mayweather vs. McGregor 2 Is Coming?

Floyd Senior went on record by stating in a recent interview that he thinks there’s a good chance Mayweather and McGregor fight again. It may not take place this year, but according to him, it could take place in the next couple of years. He also thinks that the fact they traded shots on social media could lead to it.

The father of the boxing legend suggested that it should be a slow build as a way to end McGregor’s boxing aspirations.

Floyd’s Father Thinks So

”It’s sounding like him and Conor McGregor are going to fight,” he said (H/T to MMAMania). “That’s what it sounds like. I don’t know for sure, but I’m just saying the way things are sounding to me. It sounds like [Floyd’s] going to fight again, and Conor McGregor, he wants to fight again. Even though he don’t want to fight again. He’ll fight again just to show his people what he can do – which is nothing.”

”This time here, I’m gonna make sure that he gets stretched out,” Floyd Sr. said. “All the way out of the game. I want to make sure he don’t come back no more. I’m just saying, I think they’re gonna fight the same way,” he said. “I think Conor McGregor wants that win back that he had. Which is never coming back to him anyways. It’s being talked about and it sounds like a lot of interest is in it right now.”

The speculation of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting in the Octagon under the UFC banner continues.

There have been rumors of a rematch between Mayweather Jr. and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor are ongoing.

Now it seems that a rematch is just a matter of time from being made official.

Mayweather began teasing on his social media a few weeks ago about a possible jump into the UFC. Mayweather’s father and trainer, Floyd Mayweather Sr., has once again kicked up rumors about the rematch.

He told Mayweather Boxing Channel (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting) that he believes his son is genuinely interested in fighting in the UFC.

“The way I see it, I have to believe that this is where it’s going. The way it looks, I think so.

“I don’t know what the legacy is because as of now, he has enough money and he’s got enough to live until his life runs out. I don’t even know how to say it because there ain’t no way to say it because everything is done right now.

I wouldn’t [advise him to fight in MMA]. As his trainer, no, as his father, no. I want him to have all the money he’s got. The money he’s got, he’s got enough money – look here, it’s crazy money, man. He’s his own man though, that’s one thing about him.”

If you recall, leading into their first bout, Mayweather stated that this would serve as his retirement fight, which would leave him with a perfect 50-0 pro-boxing record. If this fight does happen then it wouldn’t impact his boxing record but rather his MMA record.

“I’m gonna tell you the truth about it, I think he can win a few fights but I think it’s best to leave it alone. You can do your own thing but you’re in somebody else’s playground now and holes and stuff are in there. You just can’t do that.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe he can beat some fighters like the same as he did with the other guy but it ain’t worth it. Anytime you’ve done what he’s done, there ain’t no other way he can go right now but backwards. That’s the only way he can go right now.”
