Yesterday (July 11, 2017), Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor met face-to-face for the very first time in Los Angeles on the first stop of a world tour to promote their Aug. 26 boxing match.

At first, Mayweather, a former five division world champion, was calm and quiet, allowing the typically outlandish McGregor to talk trash and ignite the crowd. Once he took his turn in front of the thousands of fans in attendance, however, vintage Mayweather showed up.

“Money” began ripping into the Irishman, and Showtime Sports Executive Stephen Espinoza admits that his behavior was a ‘bit out of character’:

“Floyd, as he’s gotten older, he’s definitely mellowed,” Espinoza told MMAFighting.com. “If you look back at De La Hoya-Mayweather, Floyd did a lot of talking, a lot of needling Oscar throughout that press tour. Floyd is in a different place now. I don’t know exactly what to make of it. It is a little bit out of character. I think if I had to guess, it’s little bit of competitiveness and pride. Conor came out and had a standup comedy routine. The crowd ate it up. I think the entertainer in Floyd said I can’t come up here and give a bunch of cliches. He dished it out just like he took it.”

Espinoza was also a bit surprised at how pro-McGregor the Los Angeles crowd was given the fact that Mayweather owns property in the area and spends a solid amount of time in the area:

“I was surprised,” Espinoza said. “Floyd has a couple of places here. He spends a good amount of time in LA. He’s an LA-Vegas guy. But I think what you saw was the passion of the McGregor fans. He’s really connected with them, on social media and in person. He’s such a big personality that people really, really get attached to him.”

At the end of the day, many are still criticizing the fight. Some have labeled it as nothing more than a ‘money grab’. Others are angered by the fact that McGregor, a man who has never competed in a professional boxing match, is taking on one of the very best boxers of this era.

Espinoza, however, says the fans demanded this fight:

“I’m aware there is some backlash among the boxing purists. But this is — as Floyd has said — it’s a fight that happened because of the demand. If they had sort of thrown the idea out there and it got no traction, we wouldn’t be sitting here today.”

The second stop on the world tour will take place later today in Toronto, Canada.

White: ‘Madman’ McGregor Says He’ll Finish Mayweather Within Four Rounds

Months ago, UFC President Dana White was constantly dismissing the idea of a potential boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Months ago, UFC President Dana White was constantly dismissing the idea of a potential boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Today (July 11, 2017), Mayweather and McGregor will meet face-to-face for the first time in Los Angeles on the first stop of a world tour to promote their Aug. 26 mega fight.

Recently speaking on the fight, White admitted that the business behind striking a deal with Team Mayweather went smoother than he had thought it would:

“Mayweather is very poised and controlled,” White told FOX Sports 1’s ‘Speak For Yourself’. “Mayweather’s a really smart guy. As I got into the deal – he’s surrounded by a lot of smart people too, which made it much easier to get the deal done than I thought it would. I deal with a lot of people that think they’re smart and they’re not and it makes it a lot harder.

“I always respected Floyd. Floyd and I have had our moments in the public here and there but I’ve always respected Floyd and Al Haymon is a very smart guy. Very smart guy. It was actually a pleasure doing business with him.”

Due to the fact that Mayweather is a 49-0 former five division world champion, many are giving McGregor, a man who has never competed in a professional boxing match, a slim chance of beating him.

White, however, isn’t doubting the “Notorious” one:

“But Conor is a madman. Conor is a madman. He’s gonna let Floyd know what he’s gonna do and how he’s gonna do it and everybody’s been saying to me this whole time, “‘Do you think that Conor can really beat Floyd Mayweather?’ Pacquiao just got beat by a school teacher, okay.

“I stopped doubting Conor McGregor a long time ago.”

In fact, White even revealed that McGregor is planning to finish Mayweather within four rounds:

“Last night I landed at LAX and Conor landed at the same time from Ireland. We both landed at the same time and I was waiting for him to get out of the plane. He gets off a flight from Ireland, looks like he was just fitted at Armani, walks off the plan and says, ‘I will knock this man out within four rounds.”’

Conor McGregor Reacts To Floyd Mayweather’s Tax Issues

Yesterday (July 10, 2017), a report surfaced from ESPN indicating that Floyd Mayweather had asked the IRS for a ‘reprieve’ until after his upcoming Aug. 26 mega fight with UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor to pay his 2015 tax liability.

Shortly after the news broke, TMZ caught up with McGregor, and it’s safe to say that the outspoken Irishman didn’t hold back with his reaction:

“I don’t give a f*ck what he did,” McGregor said while shopping in Beverly Hills. “I don’t give a f*ck. I don’t care what he done. He should’ve stayed retired. He’s f*cked now. That’s the god’s honest truth. He should have paid his taxes and stayed retire. And kept my name out of his f*cking mouth.”

Mayweather vs. McGregor has been dubbed by some as nothing more than a ‘money grab’, and the two stars will certainly make a tremendous amount of money from the fight. The fight also has a chance to rank as the most lucrative in combat sports history, and it’ll be priced at $99.95 (HD) on pay-per-view (PPV).

McGregor gave his opinion on that as well:

“It should be $120,” he said.

Mayweather and McGregor will meet face-to-face for the first time later today at a press conference in Los Angeles. They will then continue a world tour to promote the fight with stops in Toronto, New York, and London.

Mayweather, a former five division world champion, was often one of the highest paid athletes in the world during his heyday, but he hasn’t competed since scoring a one-sided decision victory over Andre Berto in Sept. 2015. He announced his retirement after the bout, but has since come out of that retirement to fight McGregor.

The Irishman has been out of action since last November, when he scored a brutal knockout victory over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in New York City to become the promotion’s lightweight champion.

On August 26, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will meet inside the squared circle for a 12-round boxing match. Yes, it’s really happening, and the predictions in regards to how the fight will play out have been mixed.

Some feel as if McGregor, the reigning UFC lightweight champion has no chance of beating Mayweather. Some have even claimed that the Irishman won’t land a single punch, while others have argued that anything can happen in a fight. Given the fact that McGregor has never competed in a professional boxing match, the predictions in favor of Mayweather, a former five division world champion, are reasonable.

“Money” is not only one of the best boxers of his generation, but one of the best defensive boxers of all-time. He’s extremely difficult to hit, and has often made world-class boxers look like amateurs.

If he wants to make a statement in his bout against McGregor, however, he needs to knockout the Irishman early, at least that’s according to former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell:

“I don’t think it’s gonna be that exciting of a fight,” Liddell recently told TMZ. “I don’t think Floyd will come after him. Floyd will fight his fight the way he does and normally that makes for a boring fight. I’d love to see him go after [Conor]. If he wants to make a statement, he’s got to knock him out early.”

While that’s certainly a possibility, Mayweather hasn’t been considered much of a knockout artist in his later years, instead using his brilliant technique and boxing IQ, which, as Liddell mentioned, has garnered him criticism at times for putting on boring fights.

“The Iceman” also isn’t ruling out a potential McGregor victory, although he feels as if Mayweather will fight a typically Mayweather fight, and exit the ring with his fiftieth victory and a boat load of cash:

“If Floyd comes after him, [Conor] has a shot to do it but I don’t think Floyd will come after him. Floyd will be happy just making the money and running around.”

How do you expect the fight to play out?

Conor McGregor is just under eight weeks away from his highly anticipated boxing match with the legendary Floyd Mayweather, and he’s apparently sparring quite a bit in preparation to fight one of boxing’s all-time greats.

According to his longtime head coach John Kavanagh, McGregor is doing ‘four times the amount of sparring’ he would typically do for an MMA fight:

“Without going into too much detail – just to throw a number at you – we’re doing four times the amount of sparring for this camp than we would do for a regular MMA camp,” Kavanagh told TheMacLife.com in a recent interview.

“That’s a huge amount of extra rounds. Whatever other parts you get ready for a fight whether it’s boxing or MMA, without doubt the most important part of that is sparring. That’s the sport. So you can be doing movement drills and weight lifting and running and all of these different things that go with it but number one should be sparring, as long as it’s sensible.”

McGregor, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, has never competed in a professional boxing match, but the bout against “Money” will be a hot attraction nonetheless. Due to his lack of experience inside the squared circle, however, many have given McGregor a slim chance of winning, while many have also said that the fight will only hurt the “Notorious” one if and when he returns to the Octagon.

Kavnagh disagrees:

“It’s a learning experience. You don’t get to do this too often, where you immerse yourself in one style. I read somewhere that people were saying that this would have a negative effect on Conor when he goes back to MMA; I think it’s only going to have a positive effect. When else could you shelve everything and focus on one art?

“Whatever about the other arts in MMA, Conor came from boxing and boxing was always in his heart. He was always showing me different boxing fights over the years, so now that he really gets to immerse himself in it and drag us all deep into that rabbit hole with him it is fascinating.”
