Floyd Mayweather explains the only way that he would be willing to fight UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Yes, we’re back to this topic again.

The talk about this potential fight all came once Mayweather made some comments about Khabib starting a brawl following his fight against Conor McGregor at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. This led to Khabib challenging the boxing legend to a fight.

Mayweather made headlines this week while speaking with TMZ Sports as he stated that he would be willing to come out of retirement to fight the UFC champion.

Floyd Mayweather Wants It His Way

However, there’s a catch. That is Khabib having to come over into his world and box him.

“They came to me talking about the Khabib fight,” Mayweather said (H/T to MMaFighting). “Khabib called me out, I didn’t call Khabib out. They said it has to happen in the octagon. I said, ‘You just tell me where Khabib has made nine figures before in the octagon. If he hasn’t made nine figures, he’s not the A side. I’m the A side. So if you guys want the fight to happen, you must come my way. My way, my rules.”

Mayweather continued by stating that it’s his way or nothing at all. He claims to be living a great life and if the fight doesn’t happen then it won’t hurt him at all.

“Has to [be boxing],” Mayweather concluded. “My way, my rules. I’m Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather. Even if it don’t happen, I’m comfortable. I’ve got a great life. Houses all over L.A. I’m retired and I’m still living a great life.”

Although the chances of this fight actually happening are slim, people thought the same thing when McGregor was trying to make a fight happen with Mayweather last year. As much as this fight sounds ridiculous which is it, time will tell how all of this plays out.

Dana White Says ‘Don’t Pay Attention’ To Mayweather vs. Khabib

UFC President Dana White is asking for people to stop talking or even thinking about this fight.

Dana White tells everyone to stop thinking about a boxing bout between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Floyd Mayweather.

This includes everyone from fighters to fans to media members – the UFC President wants you to let it go.

The supposed fight has been a hot topic within the MMA and boxing worlds as it would no doubt be a big spectacle. However, it most likely wouldn’t be as big as Mayweather’s bout against former UFC champion Conor McGregor.

Mayweather has gone from talking about Khabib to teasing a rematch with McGregor and then even claiming he would fight Canelo Alvarez. Those are some big statements made from a fighter who is no longer in his prime and hasn’t fought since last year. However, no one can blame him for keeping his name relevant and trying to bank a huge payday.

White Responds

UFC President Dana White made it clear where things stand regarding Mayweather fighting Khabib while discussing the potential fight with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. White said he has yet to be contacted by the camp of the boxing legend:

“Don’t pay attention to it,” White told ESPN. “First of all, the Mayweather team has not approached us at all. Khabib is under contract with the UFC. Floyd is very good about getting his name out there when he wants to.”

Nurmagomedov is fresh off the biggest win of his career when he picked up a submission victory over McGregor at UFC 229 earlier this month. It was the highest-selling pay-per-view in UFC history.

The expectation is that the NSAC will have a hefty sanction for Khabib and possibly McGregor due to his actions in the UFC 229 brawl. His disclosed salary of $2,000,000 has already been withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Khabib and McGregor will go before the commission to receive their punishments on October 24.

As for his potential fight with Mayweather, however, White wants us to focus on different possibilities for Khabib.

Floyd Mayweather favored big over UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov if they would compete in a boxing bout. You have to give the boxing legend a lot of credit for keeping his name in the news as he is notoriously great at that.

Staying In Headlines

Earlier this year, he talked about a potential jump to MMA then he brought up possibly fighting Manny Pacquiao for the second time, and now he’s got people talking about him fighting Khabib.

How We Got Here

Great marketing sir. Mayweather was last seen when he beat former UFC lightweight and featherweight champ Conor McGregor once he defeated him by TKO last year.

Now, after having some comments about the brawl between McGregor and Khabib at the UFC 229 pay-per-view event, this has led to talk about a purposed boxing bout. Nurmagomedov has called out Mayweather for a fight. Thus, betting odds have been released by online sportsbook Bovada which recently listed a line for the fight.

Floyd Mayweather Favored Huge

If the boxing match ever goes down, Mayweather has opened as a 20-1 favorite at -2000 against the UFC lightweight champion in a boxing bout. On the flip side, Nurmagomedov is +900, making him a 9-1 underdog. If you recall, Mayweather opened as a -3000 favorite against McGregor and closed as just a -750 favorite.

Reality

Let’s be real here, this fight isn’t going to happen. The only reason that McGregor fought Mayweather in boxing was due to him being the biggest draw that the UFC had to offer. Also, he’s known for a being a striker and trash talk which helped sell the fight.

Although Khabib can strike, it’s not like he’s known as a knockout artist but rather a wrestler who beats people down on the ground until they quit. The chances of Mayweather vs. Khabib taking place in a boxing ring isn’t likely and there’s a reason Mayweather is such a favorite for this fight.
