Rising heavyweight prospect Francis Ngannou is known as “The Predator.” It turns out that crocodiles are actually predators in the wild.

Ngannou is slated for his toughest task thus far in his pro-MMA (mixed-martial-arts) career when he is set to take on former UFC heavyweight title contender Alistair Overeem at UFC 218.

Overeem attempted to be clever by posting a photo on his official Instagram account when he lifted a crocodile with his bare hands while hyping his upcoming bout with the young UFC star that could be a title eliminator.

“Caught this predator a few years ago. Looking forward to catch another one on December 2. ~ 27 days to go. #reemisdetroit #ufc218 #detroit#predator #thereem”

Keep in mind that photo was posted on Sunday. Ngannou saw the photo, and on Tuesday, he took the opportunity to roast Overeem for it. He posted the following on his Twitter account:

“This guy is funny! He’s thinking that on December 2nd he’s going to play with a baby animal in the petting ZOO.”

To look a little bit more into this photo,

As Ngannou pointed out that crocodile’s mouth is sealed shut which is basically saying that Overeem is fighting “The Predator” with his hands tied behind his back. Ngannou got Overeem on this one.

UFC 218 is set to take place on on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at 6:15 p.m. ET.

A UFC Featherweight Championship bout between current champion Max Holloway and former UFC Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar is expected to serve as the main event.

Dana White Reveals Who Could Be UFC’s ‘Next Big Thing’

2017 has been a lackluster year for the UFC, and that could be attributed to a lack of legitimate stars.

Former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey isn’t likely to fight again. Lightweight champion Conor McGregor is expected to enter the Octagon again, but he’s spent all of 2017 dealing with Floyd Mayweather, whom he boxed this past August in Las Vegas.

Former longtime welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, on the other hand, will make his long-awaited return at UFC 217 on Nov. 4, but after four years away from the sport, it’s unclear if he still resonates with fans the way he once did.

With that being said, it’s safe to say that the UFC is in search of new stars, and UFC President Dana White has an idea of just who could be the ‘next big thing’:

“I like Francis Ngannou,” White told The TSN MMA Show last week. “I think Francis Ngannou can be the next big thing, literally and figuratively.”

Through five UFC bouts, Ngannou has established himself as a force to be reckoned with, as he’s won all five fights by way of stoppage. Most recently, he bulldozed through former champion Andrei Arlovski, knocking out the “Pitbull” in the first round of their UFC on FOX 23 bout last January.

Now set to face top contender Alistair Overeem at UFC 218 in December, “The Predator” is likely only one win away from a title shot.

Some may argue that the only drawback to Ngannou is the fact that his English is still improving, but White doesn’t see that as an issue:

“When you’re a badass, language has nothing to do with it,” White said of Ngannou. “Look at Anderson Silva. Georges St-Pierre. The list goes on and on. It’s about your performances.

“We think about the talking because (UFC lightweight champion) Conor (McGregor)’s so good. Conor’s a great fighter, and every time he opens his mouth it’s hilarious. But you find those guys once in a blue moon.”

Do you agree with White’s comments?

In 2017, UFC President Dana White had a hunch that Francis Ngannou could be the next big thing in the UFC. Five years later, Ngannou is now the UFC heavyweight champion with an incredible résumé attached to his name on his way to a unification headliner against Ciryl Gane tonight at UFC 270.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White believes Francis Ngannou doesn’t need the “gift of gab” to be a star.

Ngannou is a rising heavyweight known for his punching power. In his 10 victories, Ngannou has six knockouts and four submissions. His last win came against former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski via first-round TKO.

On Dec. 2, Ngannou will take on Alistair Overeem inside Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The bout will be featured on the main card of UFC 218.

Speaking to TSN, White explained why he feels “The Predator” can be a star without trash-talking (via BJPenn.com):

“I like Francis Ngannou. I think Francis Ngannou could be the next big thing, literally and figuratively. Listen, when you’re a badass, language has nothing to do with it man. It’s all about how you – look at Anderson Silva. The list goes on and on. It’s about your performances. Listen, we think about the talking because Conor is so good. Conor is a great fighter and every time he opens his mouth it’s hilarious, you know? You find those guys once in a blue moon.”

A win over “The Reem” could see Ngannou compete for the UFC heavyweight title sometime in 2018.
