Glover Teixeira vs. Nikita Krylov in a light heavyweight bout continues the main card of the UFC Vancouver event:

Round 1: Teixeira caught a body kick and took him down to the ground where he got side control. Krylov was doing a nice job of landing some elbows off his back which sliced opened Teixeira. He eventually gets his back. He’s searching for a choke, but Krylov was defending well. Teixeira softened him up with strikes but Krylov shook him off and got full mount. Krylov got his back and locked in the rear-naked choke but Teixeira rolled out.

Round 2: Both guys came out and were throwing bombs. Krylov is doing well at staying out of range and using his reach. Krylov lands a low kick and eats a hook but was constantly on his bike. Krylov landed a nice combo as the former title contender was moving forward as he was getting frustrated. Krylov scored a late round takedown.

Round 3: Krylov drops for the takedown and Glover immediately jumps on the guillotine. However, Krylov got out of it. Teixeira went for an armbar after landing some strikes from half guard but Krylov got out of it.

Ever since Khabib Nurmagomedov’s win over Dustin Poirier, the debate among fans has been about whether he or Jon Jones can be regarded as the pound-for-pound best in the sport.

Nurmagomedov is 28-0 and has dominated just about every opponent of his. However, Jones has been at the top for much longer and has faced higher-level competition throughout his career.

Glover Teixeira was notably one of Jones’ victims but even he rates Nurmagomedov higher in the pound-for-pound debate:

“I think Jon Jones is up there for sure,” Teixeira told reporters during media day. “But after I saw Khabib’s last fight… Dustin Poirier, I saw that kid training, I saw how good he is, and the way (Nurmagomedov) dominated Dustin Poirier… In my mind, he’s definitely the No. 1 pound-for-pound.”

While Jones has more title defenses, a superior resume and is technically unbeaten, for Teixeira, it all boils down to dominance — and that’s where Nurmagomedov is superior:

“Jon Jones wins more title defenses, but Jon Jones hasn’t dominated opponents the way Khabib has been, you know?” Teixeira said. “Khabib looks way too much, you know what I mean? He’s way above. He’s like a 10 and other people he’s fighting are sevens.”

Do you agree with Teixeira?

There have been several fights announced for the upcoming UFC Vancouver event on September 14.

One of the more notable bouts announced is a light heavyweight clash between Glover Teixeira and Nikita Krylov. The 39-year-old Teixeira comes off back-to-back wins over Karl Roberson and Ion Cutelaba. Teixeira has won three of his last four fights, last losing to Corey Anderson in July of last year.

Krylov most recently defeated Ovince Saint Preux in April with a second-round submission. More fights announced for the card include a heavyweight matchup between Todd Duffee – who returns after more than four years – and Jeff Hughes. Duffee hasn’t fought since his 2015 clash with Frank Mir, as he has been sidelined with several injuries over the years.

As for Hughes, a training partner of former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, he will attempt to bounce back after dropping his last bout to Maurice Greene. Hughes landed a UFC contract with a knockout win on Dana White’s Contender Series.

A few more confirmed bouts can be found below:

  • Heavyweight: Marcin Tybura vs. Augusto Sakai
  • Middleweight: Antonio Carlos Jr. vs. Uriah Hall
  • Middleweight: David Branch vs. Andrew Sanchez

A main event for the UFC Vancouver card has yet to be announced.
