The main event featured a pivotal light heavyweight scrap between former title challenger Glover Teixeira and former champion “Suga” Rashad Evans.

The co-main event also held major title implications in its respective division as women’s strawweight competitors “Thug” Rose Namajunas and Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres did battle.

Oft-injured top lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov made his highly anticipated return against UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher, and a featherweight bout between Cub Swanson and Hacran Dias rounded out the main card.

The main event of UFC on FOX 19 saw former light heavyweight kingpin Rashad Evans (19-5-1) meet Glover Teixeira (25-4) inside the Octagon. For “Suga,” the fight was crucial in terms of staying relevant in the 205-pound division. A win for Teixeira would’ve put him on a three-fight winning streak.

Evans suffered his second career knockout loss.

Evans threw out a jab early and Teixeira moved forward. They clinched and Teixeira landed a knee to the body. The Brazilian landed a left hand and a right before breaking free from a clinch. “Suga” blocked a high kick. Evans was knocked loopy by a left hook and the Brazilian shut the lights off with a follow up right hand.

Final Result: Glover Teixeira def. Rashad Evans via KO (Punches) – R1, 1:48

Glover Teixeira has shared the Octagon with both main event fighters at UFC 197.

Teixeira, who returns to action this weekend against Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 19, bested Ovince Saint Preux and was defeated by Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title.

So, with Jones and OSP set to meet for the interim belt, who better than Teixeira to discuss what might transpire when the cage door closes in Las Vegas.

“I think Jon Jones has a big advantage because he was in camp already, and he’s got a better ground game and is a better wrestler,” said Teixeira, during an interview with MMAjunkie. “‘OSP’ is a tricky fighter. He’s got that chance, but it’s going to be a tough fight for him.”

Teixeira scored a win over Saint Preux last year and will carry a 24-4 overall mark into his bout with Evans, a former champion himself.

“Jon Jones is a champion for a reason,” Teixeira said. “He’s a very tough, well-rounded fighter. It’s one of those things. I’m not rooting for anybody over here. I think they both deserve a chance because they work hard.”
