Former UFC light heavyweight champion “Suga” Rashad Evans has hit some tough times as of late.

He returned last October at UFC 192 after a long layoff due to injury, losing a lackluster decision to the then surging Ryan Bader.

With a chance to get back to his winning ways, Evans faced off with former title challenger Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC on FOX 19 last night (April 16, 2016) from Tampa, Florida.

Unfortunately, “Suga” was dismantled, losing by way of first round knockout.

With two straight loses under his belt, the 36 year old Evans may begin to question his future.

Speaking on the situation at the post-fight presser, he admitted that he was embarrassed, although he doesn’t want to lose hope:

“I don’t want to lose hope, I don’t want to lose heart in fighting because it’s what I like to do and I’m at a low right now,” Evans said. “But at the end of the day something’s gotta change, I gotta do something. It’s embarrassing, it’s sad, but, welcome to being a fighter.”

At the end of the day, however, Evans is aware that moments like these are what truly define a fighter. The former champion said that he’ll go back to the drawing board to see what makes sense next:

“It’s hard to know what to change after an embarrassing and disappointing loss. I’m embarrassed and disappointed and you know, it’s sad, but, you have to go on, because this is what it’s about. Its easy to fight and to go through it when you’re on top and doing everything well, but the hardest thing is working through the disappointment, working through doubting yourself and everything else like that.

“It’s not easy but I think given some time and deciding what’s best for me,” Evans continued. “Then I’ll make the right decisions on what needs to change, but as of now it’s not a clear decision I can say.”

Would you like to see Evans compete again, or could it be time for the veteran to hang up his gloves for good?

Glover Teixeira was looking for arguably the biggest win of his career when he met Rashad Evans in the main event of tonight’s (Sat., April 16, 2016) UFC on FOX 19 from the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.

And he got just that in electrifying fashion.

After pressuring the former champion up against the cage in the early going of the bout, Teixeira secured his third straight win by finishing off ‘Suga’ with a picture-perfect left hook right on the chin and a huge follow-up shot that left Evans out cold on the canvas as referee Herb Dean mercifully stepped in to stop the carnage.

It was the statement win that the No. 4 Teixeira needed to firmly re-supplant himself among the top 205-pound talent in the world, and he should be headed for a truly huge fight after calling out fellow former title contender Anthony “Rumble” Johnson after the huge finish.

In the meantime, watch the full fight video highlights of Teixeira’s biggest win here:

UFC on FOX 19 goes down in Tampa, Florida on Saturday April 16 but does so with a massively reduced amount of fire power. What started as a great free card with some enticing fights, has steadily declined due to some unfortunate circumstances. First Tony Ferguson pulled out of his long awaited bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, then Lyoto Machida vs. Dan Henderson was scrapped due to ‘The Dragon’ failing a drug test. That said, there’s still some solid talent on the card.

Rose Namajunas vs. Tecia Torres in the women’s strawweight division has been promoted to the co-main event in Tampa, and of course Glover Teixeira and Rashad Evans meet in the main event slot now. ‘The Eagle’ remains on the card, facing wild card substitute Darrell Horcher, and there’s a featherweight bout between Cub Swanson and Hacran Diaz too.

Adding some juice to the prelims are Michael Chiesa, Beneil Dariush, Bethe Correia, John Dodson and many more.

So tune in for the live streaming UFC on FOX 19 at 4PM ET, or check in right after for the updated results here on LowKickMMA.com.

Well, well, well.

Oh how the tables have turned.

Injury ridden lightweight contender Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov has spent the last two years on the sidelines since scoring a victory over current divisional kingpin Rafael dos Anjos.

The undefeated Dagestani wrestler was scheduled to make his return later this month (April 16, 2016) against Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson in the main event of UFC on FOX 19 from Tampa, Florida.

Ferguson has been riding a hot wave as of late, and had previously warned Nurmagomedov to stay healthy and show up on fight night.

Now, however, “El Cucuy” has been forced off of the card due to an injury per FOX Sports.

This news has forced the UFC to bump the originally scheduled co-main event between former title challenger Glover Teixeira and former champion “Suga” Rashad Evans to main event status.

With such little time to find a replacement for Ferguson, “The Eagle” will not compete on the card, but will instead be given a new bout for a later date.

Teixeira, a Brazilian slugger, has picked up back to back stoppage victories over the likes of Ovince St. Preux and Patrick Cummins after suffering consecutive defeats to Jon Jones and Phil Davis.

Evans, on the other hand, recently returned from quite a lengthy injury layoff, dropping an extremely disappointing decision to Ryan Bader at October 2015’s UFC 192. He will look to get back on track against Teixeira in just a few weeks time.
