Tonight’s (Sat. November 3, 2018) UFC 230 will be headlined by a heavyweight title bout.

Daniel Cormier will defend his UFC heavyweight title against Derrick Lewis. It’s a bout former NFL star-turned-mixed martial artist, Greg Hardy, will be keeping a close eye on. Despite not yet being in the UFC, Hardy took to Instagram to call out “The Black Beast”:

“Ok ok ok, it’s about to go down baby. Who do you guys have. Let’s argue lol.

“I want The Fat beast to win so I can go show him a run in with me is broken bones and blood not bruises for that strap lol.#peaceintheviolence #princeofwar a prince can dream can’t he.

“And that way DC can go get fed to @jonnybones and we can start talk n bout super fight”

Hardy is set to compete on UFC Fight Pass for Island Fights 51 on December 21st. If he wins his fight, he has a shot at being signed by the UFC. Hardy is likely taking aim at Lewis for “The Black Beast’s” past comments about him. Several years ago Hardy was charged with domestic violence, which has shadowed his accomplishments inside the cage.

Lewis, who has been vocal about his disdain for those who have abused women, recently said he’d like to knock out the “wife beater”:

“He’s a wife beater, I’d like to get in there with him,” Lewis said. “I like knocking wife beaters out. I’ll fight Greg Hardy. It’ll be like vice versa him beating on a woman. I’ll be beating him like he was a woman.

”I grew up watching my mom and my stepdad fight just about every single damn day. Fist fighting every day for stupid stuff. I don’t tolerate stuff like that at all.”

Former NFL player Greg Hardy may be on a fast track for the UFC roster, but he will have at least one more fight before making his official Octagon debut.

Hardy, 3-0, will compete in a heavyweight bout against a yet-to-be-determined opponent under the Island Fights banner on Dec. 21 in Pensacola, Fla. ESPN first broke the story.

The venue is also yet to be determined. However, official announcements are expected to come in the near future.

The former All-Pro has been downright impressive during his short time in the cage. Hardy competed on ‘Dana White’s Tuesday Contender Series’ over the summer and scored a brutal 57-second KO. He followed that performance up a few weeks later with a 17-second knock out on the same show.

Hardy just recently fought at Xtreme Fight Night 352 in September. There, he won via 53-second knockout over Rasheem Jones.

Although very impressed by Hardy’s performances, UFC President Dana White feels the former footballer isn’t UFC caliber yet. Perhaps a fourth straight win in dominant fashion could earn Hardy his UFC contract.

Dana White Insists Greg Hardy Isn’t Ready For UFC

MMA and NFL fans will have to wait a bit longer before potentially seeing Greg Hardy fight in the UFC.

Greg Hardy impresses Dana White. But not enough to bring him up to the UFC quite yet.

Hardy was a two-time competitor on White’s “Tuesday Night Contender Series” on UFC Fight Pass. Both were dominant showings for the ex-NFL star.

With that being said, White told the “UFC Unfiltered” podcast that, despite being impressed with Hardy’s performances, they’ll wait a bit longer before calling him up to the UFC (via MMA Junkie):

“That was an impressive win,” White said. “The other wins he’s had, he’s been in there with guys standing and trading, and he ended up catching them and knock them out. This one, he actually gets his back, controls the arm and starts hammer-fisting him.

“Very impressive. He’s a guy that we’ll continue to bring up, continue to get him fights, and we’ll make the decision when he’s finally ready to come to the UFC.”

Hardy made the career switch back in 2016. He trains out of American Top Team (ATT) in Coconut Beach, Florida. Hardy dominated the regional scene with a 3-0 record as an amateur. He finished all of his opponents by way of knockout in the first round.

A Rising Star?

That dominance carried over into his professional career, as he made his pro-MMA debut in June. Hardy fought Austen Lane on Dana White’s “Tuesday Night Contender Series” and won via knockout. He returned two months later and dispatched Tebaris Gordon in 17 seconds via TKO.

Recently, Hardy competed in his first professional MMA fight outside the UFC umbrella. He defeated Rasheem Jones with a first-round knockout in under a minute for the Xtreme Fight Night promotion. Hardy’s physical attributes and knockout power have certainly been shining through in his first few fights as a pro.

Perhaps one day the MMA world will get to see it on a much larger scale inside the UFC’s Octagon.
