Jake Paul

If undefeated professional boxer, Jake Paul ever intends to make the transition to professional mixed martial arts – he appears to have a former UFC champion willing to coach and prime him for a move – with Henry Cejudo claiming the Ohio native has a greater chance of landing gold in the sport rather than in professional boxing.

Paul, who recently confirmed his return to the boxing ring ahead of an August 13. comeback – recently acted as a promoter for last weekend’s massive Madison Square Garden showdown between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.

In his most recent outing into the squared circle, Paul managed to land a stunning second career win over former undisputed UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley – finishing the St. Louis native in December with a massive one punch knockout win.

In other professional victories, Paul has bested the likes of former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight titleholder, Ben Askren, and former NBA player, Nate Robinson.

Henry Cejudo offers to help prepare Jake Paul for a potential transition to MMA

Matchroom Boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn raised the eyebrows of Paul last weekend ahead of Taylor’s headliner against Serrano – insisting that he would never win a world championship in professional boxing, leading to many others agreeing with the promotor’s opinion.

Appearing to share that sentiment, former flyweight and bantamweight champion, Cejudo offered to train Paul at Fight Ready in Scottsdale, Arizona – touting him to land mixed martial arts gold before boxing spoils.

“With the IQ I have for MMA… if Jake Paul ever wants to come out to Fight Ready, to come out and train with me, I will take care of him, dude,” Henry Cejudo said during a recent interview with The Schmo. “I think he has a better chance in mixed martial arts to become a world champion than he does in boxing.”

“Jake Paul, if you wanna come up and train with ‘Triple C’, gimmick aside, persona aside, I would be more than willing to help you and really prepare, really show you the skills of the trades on how you can become the best in the world. Now if Jake Paul tells me to F off then it’s all good (laughs). This is just coming from my heart, man.” (Transcribed by MMA Fighting)

Recently, Paul was welcomed to the mats of Straight Blast Gym by gym head coach, John Kavanagh – however, the outspoken Ohio boxer distanced himself from a trip to the facility, insisting he does not train alongside “losers”.

UFC bantamweight T.J. Dillashaw is eyeing up revenge over Henry Cejudo if he wins the title against Aljamain Sterling.

It’s likely the former two-time UFC bantamweight champion will be fighting against current division’s champ Sterling for the title next. With the Jamaican having called out the American in his post-fight interview at UFC 273, Dillashaw is hungry for the title.

UFC President Dana White even approved the fight himself following UFC 273 with Petr Yan having to take a backseat, for now, to see if a trilogy fight will go ahead with him and Sterling.

Both fighters have spoken publicly about how they feel the fight will be ‘easy’ for themselves, envisioning a clear path to victory. Dillashaw recently claimed that Sterling isn’t a UFC-calibre champ while the champion sees his foe as an ‘easy fight’.

Speaking to ESPN MMA, Dillashaw spoke of his timeline with a title shot around the corner.

“All the chips are lining up perfectly right now,” said Dillashaw. “I mean, get my belt back from Sterling, I got Cejudo supposedly saying he’s coming back, right? Who knows if he goes for ’45s or ’35s. That’d be one that I would love to get back. Then we got José Aldo, a guy that I’ve looked up to when I first got into the sport and kinda dreamed about once I beat Barão. I’ve got some options to defend that belt once I get it. It’s gonna be an exciting 2023.”

Dillashaw fought Henry Cejudo for the UFC flyweight title back in 2019 where he fell to a first-round knockout defeat that night. Following what was his UFC flyweight debut, the 36-year-old would be suspended for two years due to testing positive for EPO use.

Having now returned, Dillashaw is looking to prove all his naysayers wrong on return. With a top-ranked contender already taken care of, he is now eyeing up the title before revenge over his former foe.

Cejudo recently met with the UFC to talk about a potential return to the Octagon. The question remains as to what division he would look to compete in having had the name of UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski on the tip of his tongue for a while now.

If he does return to bantamweight, then Dillashaw would be looking to run their fight back, this time in his natural weight class.

Do you see T.J. Dillashaw reclaiming his belt in the near future?

Dominick Cruz is against Henry Cejudo jumping the line for a title shot.

The former two-division champion Henry Cejudo is currently living the retired life, or is he? Ever since making his early exit from the UFC at 33 years old, Cejudo has been teasing his return.

“Triple C” has been calling out champions of the bantamweight and featherweight divisions and other fighters as well. Although it is unclear just how serious Cejudo is about making his return, the last man to face him in the Octagon doesn’t think he should have the chance to jump the line.

Dominick Cruz knows a thing or two about being out of competition. His fighting career has been riddled with injuries that have kept him out of the cage for long periods of time. However, what sets him and Cejudo apart is that Cruz never retired. He remained active on the roster even when he was sidelined. He believes this fact is what should take Cejudo out of the running as a title contender.

“I don’t really want to talk much about him because he’s not even in the testing pool,” Cruz told Helen Yee via MMA Mania. “But I’m gonna say if he makes it through that next six months of USADA — remember, he jumped out of the testing pool so he had no pressure on him, he wasn’t building any division, he just took a break. Sat on his hands, got fat, got lazy, maybe did whatever he wanted outside of the testing pool. Now he’s getting back into the testing pool which means he wants to get back into a competitive mindset.”

Cejudo has mentioned that he would be re-entering the USADA testing pool and has been in contact with the UFC. At this time he is targeting Aljamain Sterling, the current bantamweight champion although he was previously looking for a featherweight title shot against Alexander Volkanovski.

Cruz is currently sitting in the number seven spot in the bantamweight ranking. Since he does not believe Cejudo should return to the top, he believes fighting the number seven, aka himself, would be a good fit.

“If you leave and you retire, you’re relieving yourself the pressure, you’re not in a competitive mindset. You don’t get to jump right back into the top,” Cruz said. “You get to jump to the back on the line. So, if he does make it through the next six months testing clean, I’d love to be the first person that he faces to end up back in the division because he’s not at the top anymore. He retired, he’s all the way in the back, I don’t care what he’s done. The way that our last fight went, there needs to be a rematch because it wasn’t clear.”

EXCLUSIVE | Cory Sandhagen: “I Want To Watch Henry Cejudo vs Alexander Volkanovski”, Favours Max Holloway Trilogy Fight

Cory Sandhagen would like to watch the return of Henry Cejudo inside the octagon against Alexander Volkanovski although he would prefer the Max Holloway trilogy fight first.

UFC bantamweight Cory Sandhagen competed against Petr Yan in his most recent outing last October. The fourth-ranked contender in the division was defeated by Yan by a unanimous decision to take home the interim title strap. ‘Sandman’ is reeling off two losses in a row, including one to T.J. Dillashaw by split decision last July. As he looks to get back on the winning ways, there had been no news on his next fight.

Another bantamweight athlete who has been looking to step inside the cage is Henry Cejudo, who retired in 2020 following a win over Dominick Cruz. The former two-division champ recently made his way back into the USADA testing pool to add fire to the burning speculation of whether he’ll come back and more importantly, against whom.

In an interview with LowKick MMA, Sandhagen was asked about his thoughts on Cejudo potentially fighting current UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski next and whether it will even happen or not.

“I kinda want to watch that fight, honestly. Henry talks so much sh*t that like, he’s, kinda hard not to want to watch either get beat up or beat the other person up,” Sandhagen said.

‘Sandman’ heaped praises on the ‘Triple C’ as he made the case for him to go up a weight class and face the champion, “That dude is one hell of a competitor and I kind of want to watch him fight Volkanovski. Who else is there to have a fight right now?”

On being probed about the likelihood of Cejudo getting back in the bantamweight division, Sandhagen said, “He could come back to our division too. I don’t know that he would get a title shot right away. I think that the more interesting fight is Volkanovski just because Volkanovski literally has no else to fight and our division is kind of stacked right now.

“Henry kinda wouldn’t be jumping the line at all if he went up to 145 and fought Volkanovski. I mean he would in a sense but I mean, there’s really no one else that has an argument right now.”

Cory Sandhagen prefers Max Holloway trilogy fight over Cejudo for Volkanovski

Alexander Volkanovski has cemented his position as a dominant champion lapping the division with multiple wins over top contenders. Max Holloway is a contender he’s beat twice. With a very competitive second fight, talks of a third contest between the two were imminent and scheduled for UFC 273 before Holloway was forced out of the bout due to an injury.

Talking about the ‘Blessed’ getting his trilogy fight over Cejudo’s title shot, Sandhagen said, “I’m going to take Holloway’s side over Henry’s (Cejudo) any day of the week.”

Cory Sandhagen is looking for an opponent himself as he revealed his plans to get back to action between June and August based on the talks his manager had with the promotion. Prior to his fight with Yan, his manager was informed by the promotion of a possible match-up with another top-five talent in the mix for title contention contingent on the results of the matches.

He’s aiming to ideally return in July or August and shared that the company hasn’t really given him any indication on his next opponent. With or without a competitor, Sandhagen is willing to take anyone on and would lean more for a match with Dominick Cruz solely due to his status in the sport. “He’s (Cruz) a part of MMA history, man and I want to be a part of MMA history too,” Sandhagen said.

Henry Cejudo

Henry Cejudo has spoken about a ‘great meeting’ he held with the UFC executives to discuss his return from retirement, after leaving the sport back in May 2020.

Cejudo hung up the gloves following his victory over Dominic Cruz at UFC 249 but now has plans to return after revealing his interest in becoming the first fighter within the UFC to hold a championship belt in three different weight divisions.

Cejudo had recently re-entered the USADA testing pool and will be able to compete in six months’ time. Upon his return, the former two-division champion had called for a shot at featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and was recently in the corner for the champion’s last opponent at UFC 273, ‘The Korean Zombie’.

After speaking on Triple C and The Schmo, Henry Cejudo had this to say regarding his return to the sport.

‘I think there’s two weight classes that are really open, and I want to take a stab at either one of them.

‘There’s T.J. [Dillashaw], there’s Aljalame [Sterling], there’s [Max] Holloway, and [Alexander] Volkanovski.

‘The terrain is pretty nice man, I’m sitting in a pretty good position right now.

‘We talked over dinner, we were there for a couple of hours because we had a lot to talk about. To say the least, it was a great meeting.’

UFC Excited For Henry Cejudo Return

Although Dana White was not attending the meeting with Henry Cejudo, the former two-division champion feels he and the former UFC president is looking forward to his return.

‘At 135 or 145 (pounds), a lot of those decisions aren’t done yet. I want to see what is going to end up happening, but they love the comeback.

‘They want me back, they would never have dinner with me if they didn’t want me back. I think for my next meeting, I’d love to meet with Dana White.’ (Transcribed by Dailymail).

Cejudo will be chomping at the bit to return and get his chance at achieving his aim of championing three weight divisions. However, that may be harder to do than say given Alexander Volkanovski is interested in making a jump to lightweight.

Demetrious Johnson doesn’t think Henry Cejudo should have retired following his TKO win over Dominick Cruz.

Cejudo was the bantamweight champion and had just defended his title for the first time. He was also the former flyweight champ and was rising up the pound-for-pound ranks. Yet, while on top of the world in 2020, he decided to retire from competition.

When he retired, it surprised many, and Johnson says he thinks Cejudo’s decision was a mistake.

“I think it’s great,” Johnson admits to DAZN. “I think Henry shouldn’t have retired in the first place if you ask me. I mean, you’re the champion, you’re a double champ, ‘Triple C.’ You make your money by fighting, competing. Maybe he needed the rest. I don’t know. I don’t know what he’s got going on in his life. I think you’re better off just grinding it out, getting those fights in because you lost two years of making money. If you would have fought, won both of those fights, who knows. He could be making you know, $350-500k plus your pay-per-view points. He grinds for those two years; now, he can retire. I’m happy he’s back.”

Although Henry Cejudo did stick to his word and has been retired since then, he recently announced he would be re-entering the USADA testing pool.

The hope for Cejudo is he gets an immediate featherweight or bantamweight title shot but it is uncertain if that will happen. Most recently, he met with the UFC brass and mentioned current bantamweight champion Alajmain Sterling as a potential opponent upon his return.

Regardless, it does seem set that Cejudo will return to fighting, which Demetrious Johnson should be happy about, as he knows first-hand that ‘Triple C’ is one of the best. Cejudo defeated Johnson via split decision in 2018 to become the second flyweight champion in UFC history, this coming two years after Johnson had defeated him via TKO.

Do you agree with Demetrious Johnson?
