Henry Cejudo, Jon Jones

Henry Cejudo, aka Triple C, has boldly proclaimed that he believes Jon Jones has the ability to comfortably defeat former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

UFC president Dana White recently hinted at a potential matchup between Jones and Miocic, targeted for international fight week. Jones is yet to compete since relinquishing his light heavyweight title in 2020, announcing he would instead be moving up in weight to take on new challenges.

Speaking on the Triple C & Schmo Show, Henry Cejudo, who has been training with Jon Jones at Fight Ready, discussed how a matchup with Miocic would play out for ‘Bones.’

“I love this fight for Jon just because everything that Stipe has, Jon is better at,” Cejudo said on “The Triple C & Schmo Show.” “If he was fighting a Francis Ngannou, I was a little more cautious with that one just because of pure power and when you have somebody that has scary power like that, it’s a strength that kinda overwhelms whomever. You got power, but Francis Ngannou power is different.”

“But with the Stipe fight, I like it for Jon. I think it’s gonna allow Jon to really work on everything – like mixed martial arts as a whole, not just sticking to one base. So at the end of the day, I think it’s easy money for Jon Jones.” (Transcribed via MMA Junkie).

Henry Cejudo On Jon Jones’ Change In Mentality

Jon Jones faced much criticism for his most recent bouts at light heavyweight, especially for his performances against Dominick Reyes and Thiago Santos. Jones won both fights by extremely narrow margins and looked very different from the man who once singlehandedly tore through the entire 205lb division in a matter of years.

However, Henry Cejudo has stated that Jones’ mentality is back to how it once was.

“Jon’s coming out here with a different perspective,” Cejudo said. “His perspective now is to bring back the Jonny Jones that was putting out Lyoto Machida, Shogun Rua, when he went on that rampage of just killing the elite. That spirit in him is gonna be awoken if it is that he fights in July.”

Former UFC double-champion Henry Cejudo remains keen on a matchup with featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

After previously hinting that he would never fight in the UFC again, Cejudo re-entered the USADA testing pool earlier this week and appears serious about a return. He has called for a featherweight title shot against Volkanovski for months, especially ahead of UFC 273.

During a recent interview on DC&RC, Cejudo plead his case for a shot at the 145-pound belt.

“Don’t tell me that ‘He’s done nothing at featherweight.’ I’m right here, bro. I’m the Olympic champ. I was the youngest in history to ever win an Olympic gold medal. I beat the greatest of all time in Demetrious Johnson, man. I defended both of my UFC titles. Bro, come on. Let’s do it, dude. Let’s do it, man. Persona aside, man, this is Henry Cejudo talking to you right now. Sign that damn dotted line. <Pen Drop> Plain and simple.”

Volkanovski has previously said that Cejudo doesn’t deserve a featherweight title shot for his first fight out of retirement. Cejudo went on to address the perceived hypocrisy of not allowing him to challenge for the belt, while also pondering a move to lightweight.

“Alexander Volkanovski said he wants to fight at 155 pounds. Dude, you ain’t proven at 155 pounds, either! I defended both of my belts. I retired on that Monday, guys.

“So at the end of the day, man, I’m coming after his head. I really am: as a competitor, as a challenger, as a history maker.”

Cejudo retired and vacated his bantamweight title following a win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. He earned the belt after beating Marlon Moraes at UFC 238 following TJ Dillashaw’s vacation for testing violating USADA’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

Volkanovski has been dismissive of a matchup with Cejudo and could face a trilogy against Max Holloway next. He and Holloway were supposed to square off at UFC 273 before Holloway pulled out with an injury.

As Cejudo gets ready to make his highly-anticipated return to the cage later this year, a featherweight title bout against Volkanovski seems to be at the top of his wish list.

UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling has backed Henry Cejudo’s aspirations for a third championship title, questioning why Dana White is against the idea.

Ever since his “retirement,” which followed a successful bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz in 2020, talk of a Cejudo comeback has been prevalent. For many, the response has been simple: get back in the testing pool.

Earlier this week, “Triple C” advanced his ambitions from talk to action by officially re-entering the USADA pool. The former two-division UFC titleholder will now be eligible to compete after six months in the program.

When making the announcement, Cejudo unsurprisingly had a familiar name on his lips.

Since stepping up discourse surrounding another appearance in the Octagon, Cejudo’s desire to become the UFC’s first three-weight champ has been clear. Following Alexander Volkanovski’s victory at UFC 266 last September, “The Messenger” called the 145-pound king out.

Now, having previously staked his claim for the replacement role at UFC 273 last weekend, Cejudo has reiterated his goal to pursue featherweight glory following yet another defense from “The Great.”

While the UFC president has consistently shut down the idea of the former Olympian returning to a title fight at a new weight, one of the promotion’s champions doesn’t understand that reluctance.

Sterling: I Don’t See How Dana Could Deny Cejudo

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, which followed his own triumphant defense at UFC 273, Aljamain Sterling assessed what could await Cejudo if and when he makes his return to action.

Given the Fight Ready coach‘s previous achievements in the sport, as well as the accomplishment he’d be attempting by moving up to featherweight, the bantamweight titleholder doesn’t understand how White could reject Cejudo’s ambitions.

“Him going up to ’45 would be cool. I don’t see how Dana could deny him,” said Sterling. ” I mean, he did win two belts. Maybe cause he’s not that popular? But it’s like, he’s pretty popular, maybe not popular in the sense that people are throwing money at him, but he’s pretty popular. So, I just don’t get how that doesn’t sell. It’s a big fight, in the sense of what he’s trying to accomplish. If you package it and market it the right way, it’s a big fight.

“I think he’s (Volkanovski) the only guy he (Cejudo) could fight at 145 that’s close to his height,” added Sterling. “You almost lose that fight if Volkanovski loses. Why not just make it and see what happens?”

Sterling went to suggest that, should White maintain his stance on Cejudo’s pursuit of 145-pound gold, he’d be more than happy to welcome the former champ back to the cage himself in a clash for the bantamweight belt.

Do you agree with Aljamain Sterling? Should Henry Cejudo be allowed to return to a featherweight title shot?

Henry Cejudo and Demetrious Johnson have linked up years after their classic rematch four years ago.

The year was 2016. Demetrious Johnson was running roughshod over the UFC’s flyweight division four years into his reign of dominance, and his next targeted victim was a relatively young Henry Cejudo only three years into his MMA career.

Still, Cejudo’s status as an Olympic gold medalist made him a credible foe for Johnson. But even Cejudo would admit that at this point in his MMA career, he wasn’t credible enough.

Johnson defeated Cejudo via first-round KO, with the Olympian looking ill-equipped for the mighty task at hand.

Two years later, with three more fights and two more years of experience under his belt, Cejudo got another crack at Mighty Mouse, and he made good on it.

In what was a hyper-competitive rematch, Cejudo edged out Johnson via split decision. Little could the MMA world know the ramifications those scorecards would have on the history of the sport.

A Triple C & Mighty Mouse Reunion

Following this bout, Johnson would be involved in an unprecedented MMA trade that saw the former flyweight king dealt to ONE Championship and Ben “Funky” Askren shipped to the UFC.

As for Cejudo, he would go on to win the bantamweight championship and retire in 2020.

Fast-forward to 2022 and Cejudo has re-entered the USADA testing pool, signaling an impending return to competition, and Johnson is coming off a victory in a “mixed rules” MMA/Muay-Thai bout against Muay Thai legend Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Another change? Johnson and Cejudo reuniting in Triple C’s home.

“Guess who stopped by The Cejudo hacienda today. Stay tuned #frenemies,” Cejudo wrote beside a pair of goat emojis.

What could Cejudo be teasing? A Triple C/Mighty Mouse buddy comic book series? A trilogy fight that will blindside the entire MMA community? Or perhaps Cejudo and Johnson will be the first MMA duo to enter pro-wrestling together as a team? “The Mighty Americans?”

Who the heck knows. One thing you can be sure of, though, is that MMA News will keep you posted should anything come from this tease from “Triple C.”

What do you think Henry Cejudo’s “stay tuned” is referring to?

Henry Cejudo is attempting to rush towards history before Conor McGregor is handed the chance to beat him there.

For as much as Henry Cejudo and Conor McGregor have been at odds on social media this year, including McGregor referring to Cejudo as a “little fart,” there is one goal the two have in common. Both double champs are aiming to become triple champs in 2022.

Neither Cejudo nor McGregor has a fight lined up this year as of yet, but they both have identified their championship targets.

For McGregor, he wants to return to a welterweight title shot against champion Kamaru Usman. As for “Triple C,” he has not been shy about his desire to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight championship, especially after watching Volkanovski’s performance this past weekend at UFC 273.

Cejudo and his team have announced that he is re-entering the USADA testing pool, which begins the six-month clock before he can return to the Octagon. McGregor is expecting to return later this year as well, but no hard date has been established and his targeted opponent Usman is expected to face Leon Edwards next.

Speaking on the DC & RC program on ESPN, Cejudo opened up again about his desire to fight Volkanovski and also beat McGregor to the triple-champ punch.

“The only thing I really haven’t taken care of is my weight. I’m 165 pounds, 170 sometimes. Man, that cut would be perfect,” Cejudo said about a potential debut at featherweight. “So you trim off all that fat just like that. [Volkanovski] is only a couple inches taller than me. It’s a very winnable fight.

“And I love the fact that I could become the first (three) division champ. Because we all know America’s sweetheart, Conor McGregor, that blue-eyed devil, you know he’s gonna be the first one to get that crack at the (three) belts. But this one’s gonna be earned. This one’s earned from me, I believe, as a two-sport world champ: Olympic champ, flyweight champ, and the bantamweight champion of the world, defending both of my belts”

Volkanovski has yet to share Cejudo’s interest in a fight against one another as of late, and UFC President Dana White has also not sounded too enthusiastic about the possible pairing. On the contrary, both he and Volkanovski have suggested that Cejudo would need to earn a title shot at featherweight if he is to get a crack at the #2-ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Dana White also has not confirmed that McGregor will receive a title shot upon his return. Although, he has called those offended at the possibility of the Irishman returning to an immediate title shot “idiots.”

Cejudo has hit at Dana White and the UFC for their favoritism in the past, implying that there is a double standard on who is given an opportunity to make history depending on ethnicity and/or physical traits.

Who do you think is more likely to become the first man to win a world title in three UFC weight classes: Henry Cejudo or Conor McGregor?
