UFC interim bantamweight champion Petr Yan is allegedly in need of cornermen and Sean O’Malley has appeared to agree to help out.

It was reported by multiple outlets earlier this week that members of Yan’s corner were denied visas to travel to the U.S. for UFC 273. Yan will face bantamweight titleholder Aljamain Sterling in a title rematch about a year in the making.

After news broke of Yan’s situation, he reached out to retired former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo to help out.

“Hey coach [Henry Cejudo] what are your plans on April 9th?” Yan asked.

Cejudo has yet to respond to Yan’s request.

Just hours after Yan reached out to Cejudo on social media, O’Malley recorded a video in which he appeared to agree to help corner Yan for his upcoming fight.

“One corner spot is taken by [Sean O’Malley],” Yan responded.

Yan earned the interim title over Cory Sandhagen at UFC 267 after Sterling withdrew from their originally scheduled rematch due to Sterling’s health issues. The rematch was postponed a second time for UFC 273 after the UFC 272 booking fell apart for conflicting reasons.

Yan lost via disqualification to Sterling at UFC 259 after landing an illegal knee late in the fight. Before the infraction, Yan had taken control of the fight and had appeared to be on his way to a successful title defense.

O’Malley and Yan share a bit of history from a distance. Among other interactions, O’Malley has predicted that a fight with Yan down the line would be the biggest fight in UFC bantamweight history.

Despite Yan searching for help from Cejudo, the two have gone back-and-forth on social media over the past couple of years. Yan has questioned the timing of Cejudo’s retirement while Cejudo has previously teased coming out of retirement to fight him.

Cejudo has recently teased a UFC comeback and threw his name into the conversation to fight Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 273. However, the UFC opted to go with Chan Sung Jung (aka The Korean Zombie) instead of Cejudo.

Yan hasn’t had any visa issues ahead of UFC 273 and it appears that his cornermen are the only ones impacted by recent traveling challenges.

Former two-weight UFC champion, Henry Cejudo, and streaking bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley have both offered to serve as cornermen for interim division champion, Petr Yan at UFC 273 – as the Dudinka native faces potential issues assembling a corner for the April 9. event.

Slated to co-headline UFC 273 next month in a championship title unification bout against former-foe, Aljamain Sterling, reports emerged from TASS yesterday, detailing how members of Yan’s corner for the event had been denied VISAS to travel to the United States, but are set to reapply

With the situation regarding Yan’s corner for the event currently fluid, TASS reporter, Igor Lazorin suggested prominent mixed martial arts coach and former undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov would step in and corner his compatriot, Yan at the event.

Petr Yan landed the vacant bantamweight title back in July 2020 with a win over Jose Aldo

While Khabib has yet to offer his services, both the aforenoted, O’Malley and Cejudo have offered to make an impromptu corner for Yan at UFC 273 in his title unification rematch with Sterling.

“Petr (Yan), heard you need a corner, bro,” Sean O’Malley posted. “Let me know, I’ll be in (Las) Vegas – or wherever the f*ck your fight is. Let me know and I can corner you baby, one-two, one-two.”

“One corner spot is taken by @SugaSeanMMA (Sean O’Malley) (dog emoji),” Petr Yan tweeted.

Replying to a tweet from Petr Yan questioning what his plans were for April 9. – Cejudo claimed that he would corner Yan if he gave him a “booster seat”.

“Ger me a booster seat and I’ll work your corner… you kneed (sic) me. #andnew (Russian flag emoji),” Henry Cejudo tweeted in response to Petr Yan.

In his first matchup with Sterling back in March of last year, Yan suffered his first promotional loss in the form of a fourth round disqualification after he landed a knee to a grounded Sterling – resulting in a title loss.

Returning back in October of last year at UFC 267 on ‘Fight Island’, Yan clinched the interim bantamweight title with a unanimous decision victory against Cory Sandhagen.

After a beautiful knockout victory by Song Yadong at UFC Vegas 50, Henry Cejudo would seize the moment by making fun of his former opponent Dominick Cruz on Twitter after Yadong’s callout of Cruz in his post-fight interview.

“The Kung Fu Monkey” looked savagely impressive during the fight, dispatching the veteran Marlon Moraes in round one with a gorgeous uppercut. This would be the fourth knockout loss in a row for Moraes, and an elated Yadong would take the mic afterward and call out the former champion Cruz.

Henry Cejudo Makes Some Noise

“Ding Dong. Who’s there? SONG YA F’N DONG! This dude is a problem. Only 24 years old?!?! Watch out bantamweight! #UFCVegas50” Cejudo would start off with.

Of course, “Triple C” wasn’t done there. Henry Cejudo would take a shot at Dominick Cruz himself while he was at it.

“I hear you wanna fight Dominick Cruz @SongYaDongMMA? Interesting matchup. Just make sure to bring the beer and cigarettes! #DominickSnooze #ThanksKeithPeterson #UFCVegas50”

Of course, Cejudo is referencing their fight two years ago back in 2020 at UFC 249. In that bout, “Triple C” would get the best of Cruz: finishing him with two seconds left on the clock in round two. A knee would start the finishing sequence, but overall it was the steady ground and pound from Cejudo that caused the referee Keith Peterson to stop the matchup.

Obviously, with such little time on the clock, Cruz was outraged at the stoppage. He was livid because Cruz said he was still moving and trying to advance his position. Not only that, but he said he smelt a very strong odor of “booze and cigarettes” on Peterson before the fight.

Nothing was ever proven, and it’s worth mentioning fellow referee Herb Dean vouched for Peterson and said he didn’t even smoke cigarettes at all.

Former UFC double-champ Henry Cejudo isn’t impressed by Conor McGregor’s striking that he showed off in a recent social media post.

Cejudo and McGregor have bickered back and forth on social media on and off for months. While Cejudo remains a retired UFC fighter, he remains active on social media and is also a commentator for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Eagle FC promotion.

Cejudo is never afraid to speak his mind when it comes to his UFC colleagues, including former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and former opponent Dominick Cruz.

Despite being known mostly for his elite grappling during his time in the Octagon, the Olympic wrestler isn’t impressed with McGregor’s boxing. In a recent tweet, he criticized McGregor for his technique when hitting pads.

“The same reason why you let people chew that front leg [Conor McGregor] is the same reason why I would stop you,” Cejudo said. “What do you say I make my comeback at 155?

McGregor, who has had his fair share of social media back-and-forths with his rivals, quickly hit back at Cejudo in a reply.

“Shut up u little fart,” McGregor replied.

Cejudo had hinted at a UFC comeback against featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski before UFC president Dana White booked ‘The Korean Zombie’ for UFC 273. He hasn’t fought since he retired following UFC 249 in 2020.

McGregor is preparing for a UFC comeback later this year after snapping his leg in his trilogy with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. While Cejudo is unafraid of McGregor, the Irishman is the more likely of the two to return to competition in 2022.
