Former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo is beginning to lose hope in a UFC comeback in light of his recent jabs at UFC President Dana White.

Cejudo hasn’t fought in the UFC Octagon since his last bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. In his post-fight interview, he announced his retirement from the UFC and officially vacated the title shortly thereafter.

But Cejudo has hinted at a UFC comeback, most recently volunteering to fight against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 273. This was after Max Holloway pulled out of the Volkanovski fight due to an injury. However, the UFC opted to go with ‘The Korean Zombie’ as a replacement.

Cejudo has recently claimed that he demanded too much money and that was the reasoning behind not getting the Volkanovski fight. In the meantime, he has coached various UFC fighters at Fight Ready in Arizona.

During a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Cejudo addressed his status towards a UFC comeback and sounded less than optimistic.

“I don’t think so,” Cejudo said. “I think the way that things are going, I think I talked too much sh*t. I think I picked on (UFC president) Dana (White) a little too much. He’s just not going to pay me. I’ve accepted that. This is why I’m able to throw out the kitchen sink from now on because it’s never going to change. It’s not going to change.”

Cejudo went on to criticize White and the UFC’s pay model in light of recent deals with Jorge Masvidal and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya.

“He’s going to pay Jorge. He’s going to pay the 1 percent. He’s going to pay the entertainers – and that’s partially what I am. I’m an entertainer. I could sell a damn fight and I can fight better than all those dudes combined. It sucks, but that’s just the way it is. It’s just business. I ain’t mad. (I’m) maybe a little frustrated, but I ain’t mad. That’s just life.”

Masvidal and Adesanya earned mega deals leading up to their recent fights, prompting frustration from Cejudo. His issues with the UFC have allegedly been financially related and could’ve potentially led to his retirement.

Cejudo is regarded as arguably one of the greatest combat sports athletes of all time. After earning a gold medal in Olympic Wrestling, he earned UFC titles at flyweight and bantamweight and wrapped up his UFC tenure with six straight wins.

Conor McGregor Takes Aim At ‘Fat Midget Novice’ Henry Cejudo

Conor McGregor didn’t take kindly to Henry Cejudo offering him some coaching advice, dubbing ‘Triple C’ a “fat midget novice” in response.

On Thursday, ‘Notorious’ uploaded a clip of him hitting pads as he prepares to make his eagerly anticipated comeback after suffering a nasty leg break at UFC 264 in July last year.

McGregor is just a few days into training again after his lengthy injury layoff but Cejudo didn’t think it was too soon to give the Irishman some pointers.

“Your hands are down and your distance is off. Stay away from them yes men. Just a tip from the (Goat emoji),” Cejudo wrote in response to the video.

Rather than respond to Cejudo directly, McGregor opted to highlight a clip of the former flyweight and bantamweight champion holding pads for Cris Cyborg. The Irishman seems to take issue with the fact Cejudo, who is best known for his wrestling, has any advice to give elite-level strikers such as himself of Cyborg.

“The audacity of this little fat midget novice to be holding a kick pad for cris cyborg. Look at the state of him omg,” McGregor wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “Fat midget novice. @HenryCejudo u are a little fat midget novice”

McGregor also found a 2016 tweet from Cejudo labeling ‘Notorious’ the greatest of all time.

Conor McGregor’s Developing New Style Ahead Of Comeback

“I feel nice and strong, for sure,” McGregor said. “It’s getting there day by day. I’m advised to take it easy, but I’m definitely feeling (better). You know, I’m shadowboxing a lot and I’m figuring out what way (to fight). I’m developing a style,” McGregor told LowKickMMA at Bellator 275.

“I think people are going to start respecting different aspects of my game. My shots from the bottom, my shots from top. I have many different styles of fighting. So, we’ll get there for sure,” McGregor added. “It’s a marathon, not a sprint. There’s been a lot achieved but a lot still to go and I’m excited for that. I’m excited to go for my fans.”

Former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo was taken aback when Israel Adesanya and Jorge Masvidal got recent mega deals and he didn’t.

Cejudo retired following his successful bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. He hasn’t fought since but has teased a potential UFC return to face featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

Cejudo put his name in the sweepstakes to replace Max Holloway against Volkanovski, but Chan Sung Jung (otherwise known as The Korean Zombie) ended up getting the fight over him. UFC president Dana White has remained adamant that Cejudo will need to fight another contender before getting a title shot.

Adesanya and Masvidal both secured new UFC deals ahead of their fights at UFC 271 and UFC 272. Adesanya’s deal has been rumored to be one of the most lucrative in UFC history, while Masvidal’s new deal makes him among the Top 3 highest paid.

Cejudo left the UFC after being in a contract dispute with the promotion. But after getting word of Adesanya and Masvidal’s new contracts, Cejudo isn’t sure why he wasn’t or hasn’t been offered a similar deal.

“Money talks, bulls*** walks, and I’m not walking, I’m not signing up to USADA until I really get what I deserve,” Cejudo said in an interview with The Underground. “They’re gonna give Israel Adesanya, who doesn’t know how to do a damn moonwalk, can’t win a second belt, can’t defend a takedown to save his life, or Jorge Masvidal, he’s got 17 losses in his career, and they can’t give the ‘Triple C’ some of that cash?

“If you really think about it, it’s almost like, why do I do this? If the UFC’s just gonna handpick people to decide to pay, because notice what they’re doing now: a week before the fight, they’re starting to give this big payday to those guys because they want to keep the one-percenters happy so nobody else talks s***. I am those one-percenters, so how come they ain’t paying me?” (h/t MMA Fighting)

Cejudo has helped train top UFC stars such as former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo down at Fight Ready in Arizona. Though it remains unclear whether or not he still intends to return to MMA at some point, he has recently expressed interest in a fight against Max Holloway as a return fight.

If Cejudo ends up returning to the UFC, it’s apparent that the former champion will need a pay raise in comparison to his previous contract. In the meantime, the idea of a super fight between Cejudo and Volkanovski seems dead.

Do you think Henry Cejudo will eventually return to the UFC?

Henry Cejudo says he will not return to UFC unless he receives a sizeable pay grade.

The former UFC dual champion who retired back at UFC 249 following a successful Bantamweight title defense against Dominick Cruz, has been teasing a comeback to the sport ever since he left.

Rumors of the king of cringe re-entering the USADA testing pool surfaced late last year but were ultimately shut down by Cejudo himself, who said he will not return unless he is paid substantially.

To make his point, he took a couple of shots at UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Jorge Masvidal, who have both recently signed new, lucrative contracts.

“Money talks, bullsh*t walks, and I’m not walking,” Cejudo said in an interview with the Underground. “I’m not signing up to USADA until I really get what I deserve. They are going to give Israel Adesanya, who doesn’t know how to do a damn moonwalk, can’t win a second belt, can’t defend a takedown to save his life. Or Jorge Masvidal, they are going to give him money? He’s got 17 losses in his career, dude, they can’t give ‘Triple C’ some of that cash?”

Although he never mentioned exactly how much he’s been asking for, Cejudo, who has been coaching title contenders at Fight Ready, most notably Zhang Weili and Jiri Prochazka, said he is willing to put his coaching career and other duties aside to compete again.

“Yeah Khabib just got inducted into the Hall of Fame, but not even his credentials match up to mine. I got another belt on top of that, and on top of that, I have an Olympic gold medal. I prefer that over 29-0 any day, and I love Khabib.

“The reason why I’m saying this is because it’s different, you know what I mean I guess I’m not that company guy. I’m that freakin’ black sheep that’s just trying to make money. I’m not saying to start a union here. What I’m saying is pay me. I want that green. I deserve that damn green. Every man for himself, and that’s the way I see it.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

Henry Cejudo Is Done Chasing Alexander Volkanovski, Calls Out Max Holloway

Henry Cejudo has turned his attention away from a fight with Alexander Volkanovski and instead intent of booking a scrap against the man ‘The Great’ dethroned to become featherweight champion, Max Holloway.

‘Triple C’ retired from MMA after beating bantamweight great Dominick Cruz at UFC 249 in May 2020. Since calling it a career the Olympic gold medallist has repeatably said he would be willing to end his brief retirement for a chance to fight Volkanovski for the featherweight belt.

The Aussie has scoffed at talk of a fight with Cejudo, who is yet to re-join the USADA testing pool. UFC president Dana White has also shown little interest in booking Cejudo in a return bout against Volkanovski or anyone else.

After failing with his bid to secure a featherweight title shot, Cejudo has decided he’ll instead try to fight someone who is considered one of the best 145lb fighters of all time.

During an interview with The Underground Cejudo expressed an interest in ending his retirement to fight Holloway, he said.

“One of the fights that come to mind if I come back is Max Holloway. If you won’t give me Alexander the average, give me Holloway. Okay, if they want me to fight somebody to get into that title fight, give me Holloway. I know I can beat him, and then I’ll get Alexander the average. I’m curious to see what Holloway would say about the fight, I respect him, but I also know he’s really beatable. But, I know he’s really dangerous too, that’s why I like him.”

“I do believe Max Holloway would take me seriously, and he’d be more willing to fight me than Alexander Volkanovski would,” Cejudo added. “That’s the route I would wanna go… Give me a Holloway, or a Volkanovski.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Henry Cejudo Wants To Help Train Jorge Masvidal

Henry Cejudo has offered his assistance to Jorge Masvidal, after ’Gamebred’ lost to Colby Covington

Masvidal was outclassed by ‘Chaos’ everywhere the fight went at UFC 272. He was most notably at a disadvantage when the fight went down to the ground or on the cage. Covington’s pace and the way he was able to use his strength while grappling to his advantage was just too much for ‘Street Jesus’. The fight wasn’t particularly close, and Covington was able to dominate all five rounds and coasted to a win.

Cejudo wants to train Masvidal so he can keep his distance around the outside of his opponent. This way he is not getting into firefights with other fighters who have good standup.

Henry Cejudo Wants to train Jorge Masvidal So he is more prepared against wrestlers like Covington in the future.

“What I would do with ‘Gamebred’ is, you would want to make him more of a technical fighter,” Cejudo said on The Triple C & Schmo Show. “Sometimes he gets into these flurries. He’s too smart. If I was to help him out it would be with his distance game. Keeping him at borders, like never allow anybody to get into the upper cutter-hook range and things of that nature, slipping through, going over the areas of concentration in wrestling, different little tricks because remember, I fought. Wrestling and MMA wrestling, it is different and people need to realize.” (H/T MMAJunkie)

Cejudo is one of the most decorated wrestlers in UFC history. He was able to capture both the bantamweight title and the flyweight title. He also was able to capture the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. ‘Triple C’ wants to share his knowledge of the wrestling game with Masvidal, who Cejudo has a ton of respect for.

“There are things you can slip out of, and there’s things you really gotta defend, but you cannot get into these scramble positions like he did with Colby, which eventually exhausted him. I think I would help out ‘Gamebred’ a lot. I like ‘Gamebred’ even though we stopped talking due to our management firms with Ali [Abdelaziz] and Abraham [Kawa]. I’ve always had so much love for that dude. But my door will always be open for ‘Gamebred’ if he decides to rejuvenate his career. I believe I can help him tremendously.”

If Masvidal can get his wrestling and grappling in check, he would still be one of the most elite fighters in the game. Masvidal has fantastic stand up, but his grappling has been what has held him back in the past.
