Surging Bellator bantamweight contender, Raufeon Stots has advanced to the Bellator MMA World Grand Prix semi final bracket — as well as minting himself as the interim division gold holder — stopping former undisputed bantamweight best, Juan Archuleta with a stunning third round high kick in the co-main event of Bellator 279 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Stots, who entered tonight’s re-shuffled bantamweight Grand Prix quarter final bracket against Archuleta off the back of an impressive unanimous decision win over Magomed Magomedov, managed to utilize his wrestling in the opening round in response to some wrestling offense from Archuleta, before successfully defending a slew of takedown attempts in the second frame.

However, early in the third round, Stots managed to find his target with a high-kick-come-knee — catching Archuleta and becoming the first to finish the former undisputed champion with strikes in the process. Stots is now slated to move onto the semi-final bracket where he is joined by fellow surging grappling ace, Patchy Mix who turned in an impressive five round unanimous decision win over Kyoji Horiguchi earlier tonight.

Former UFC strawweight champion, Jessica Andrade makes a successful return to her prior 115lb stomping grounds — making relatively short work of compatriot, Amanda Lemos with an Octagon-first, standing arm triangle choke win to finish off the UFC Vegas 52 card.

Andrade, a former undisputed strawweight champion, made her first Octagon outing at the limit since July 2020 — entering the all-Brazilian main event off the back of a September knockout win over Cynthia Calvillo.

Tying up Belem veteran, Lemos in the clinch during an exchange, Andrade immediately attempted to set up a standing arm-triangle choke.

Pushing Lemos back to the fence, the #10 ranked challenger tried to defense the submission onslaught, and despite the fact Andrade was unable to drag Lemos to the canvas, the former forced the tap eventually from a standing position — with the first vertical arm triangle win in promotional antiquity.

Adding Swedish-born contender, Hermansson to a list of victims at middleweight including the likes of Uriah Hall, Brendan Allen, and Jack Marshman, Strickland managed to successfully defend no less than seven takedown attempts over the course of the five round headliner.

Utilizing an ever-present jab which really made waves last July against the above mentioned, Hall, Strickland, a staple of Xtreme Couture under Eric Nicksick in ‘Sin City’ — managed to evade a lot of winging and misfiring efforts from Hermansson from the second round onwards, largely comfortably outstriking the former Cage Warriors champion.

Following his victory, Strickland who is set to leapfrog Hermansson into the #6 rank at middleweight at least, called for a middleweight title opportunity against the victor of next weekend’s UFC 271 headliner between champion, Israel Adesanya, and former champion, Robert Whittaker.
