Inaugural bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey has revealed she has a specific gameplan in place to beat Holly Holm during their infamous 2014 title fight in Australia, before claiming she was “out on my [her] feet” from the opening exchange.
Rousey, a former undisputed bantamweight champion under the banner of the UFC and Strikeforce promotions, headlined a return ‘Downunder’ for the organization back in 2014 in a title defense against boxing Hall of Fame star, Holm.
And seeing her perfect run of professional victories halted following twelve consecutive victories, Rousey would then go on to suffer a dominant first round TKO defeat to former two-weight champion, Amanda Nunes the following year in her return to the Octagon.
And speaking during a recent Q&A session as she releases a memoir on her career in combat sports, Rousey revealed she had a specific gameplan in place to beat Albuquerque striker, Holm – before she was rocked on the feet.
“The (Holly) Holm fight, I didn’t really get to start my process because I literally just got hit right away, and it knocked loose all my bottom teeth and I was out on my feet from the very beginning,” Ronda Rousey said. “So there wasn’t like that same kind of process of what I usually have.”
“My process was usually, I would plan out the first exchange, and everything from then on out would be an improvisation, within the range of what I trained for specifically for that person.”

What are your thoughts on the career of Ronda Rousey?
It likely marks one of the last, if not the final fight of Holly Holm’s legendary career, competing in 17 UFC contests, picking up a title and fighting the very best in the sport. This of course comes after a professional boxing career in which she won several world titles and amassed a record of 33-2-3.
What’s next for Holly Holm?
Speaking at the post-fight press conference, White discussed the 135lb clash and praised Holm before calling for her to retire.
“So going in against a legend like Holly, who has a ton of Octagon time, and I don’t care what level Kayla Harrison has competed in, I guarantee you she had serious jitters tonight. She came in there, performed and put it to an absolute legend in all of combat sports,” said White as he addressed the media.
“Obviously a big night for Kayla and a big win, but I would love to see Holly retire.”
As for Harrison, the 33-year-old is in line for a big fight later on in the year and if she continues to win, will be on the brink at a shot of the title. The American is a good injection of excitement to a division which has failed to capture the public as of late.

Making her much-anticipated Octagon debut tonight on the preliminary card of UFC 300 — two-time Olympic gold medal winner, Kayla Harrison has landed in the organization with a brutal win over former bantamweight best, Holly Holm — submitting the Albuquerque native with a rear-naked choke win.
Harrison, an alum of the PFL (Professional Fighters League) — twice won lightweight tournament spoils under the banner of the Donn Davis-led banner, before making her Octagon bow tonight against future Hall of Fame inductee, Holm as part of a massive UFC 300 card.
And making lightwork of boxing Hall of Fame star, Holm, Ohio native, Kayla Harrison turned in a patented throw takedown on the New Mexico veteran after skewing herself on bottom momentarily.
Dominating and remaining on top in the opening round, Harrison again threw Holm to the mat in dominant fashion in the early exchanges of the second round, this time wrapping up a one-sided submission victory via rear-naked choke over the number five ranked bantamweight — in her divisional debut, no less.
And in the immediate aftermath of her victory, Harrison vowed to hold the bantamweight championship by the end of the year — calling for a clash with incumbent gold holder, Raquel Pennington, or former gold holder, Julianna Peña — who is expected to compete for spoils next.
