Ever since Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino ruled the Strikeforce women’s featherweight division and Ronda Rousey won the women’s bantamweight belt from Miesha Tate, the two have been inked in an at-times heated back-and-forth battle of words that has never even come close to a legitimate shot at an actual super fight.

The onus was apparently on ‘Cyborg’ to somehow cut down to Rousey’s fighting weight limit of 135 pounds, something that was ultimately too taxing on her body. Then the prospect dissipated altogether when Rousey shockingly lost her title to Holly Holm at November 2015’s UFC 193, putting a swift finish to all of the speculation that wasn’t going anywhere anyway.

While that has considerably hurt ‘Cyborg’s’ chances at a UFC fight, her manager George Prajin recently told ESPN that while all the focus was on Rousey last year, 2016 is all about Justino on her own:

“It seems like last year, for us, was about Ronda Rousey,” Prajin said. “This year is about Cris Cyborg. She wants to concentrate on showing she’s the best in the world on her own, not standing in someone else’s shadow.”

But even though the spotlight could shine on ‘Cyborg’ this year, Prajin believes it’ll have to be in Invicta, as a UFC fight with Holm, whom he asserted is running out of opponents after she face Miesha Tate at March’s UFC 196 and rematches Rousey at some point, at an agreed-upon catchweight is simply a longshot at this point:

“Our only hope is a Hail Mary — a longshot,” Prajin said. “It’s the UFC seeing value in a Holly Holm vs. Cyborg catchweight fight. They have a division to protect. If Holly fights Cris at UFC 200 and gets smashed, it lowers her value as a champion. I’m sure they don’t want to do that.

“We still feel Cris is the only money fight out there for Holly besides a Rousey rematch. If Holly beats Miesha Tate [at UFC 196 on March 5] and then Ronda decides she doesn’t want to fight or loses to Holly again, the only fight that would make sense for Holly would be Cris.

“But I understand the UFC’s position right now. We can’t tell them how to run their business. It is what it is.”

The words raise an interesting conundrum for the UFC, as MMA fans would most likely not want to see Holm run over the rest of the relatively shallow UFC women’s bantamweight division is she were to get past Tate and Rousey. Yet losing in a one-sided bout to ‘Cyborg’ would take away most of her star power, so even though it would be a huge fight, it most likely won’t happen at UFC 200.

Overall, the UFC doesn’t have a 145-pound division, and they probably aren’t going to create one for a known steroid user in Justino, who is running through 145-pound females that few MMA fans have ever heard of in Invicta. Should they sign ‘Cyborg’ to fight Holm, or is the Brazilian bruiser simply becoming more trouble than she’s actually worth after all?

Title: Chuck Liddell Calls Holly Holm A “Real Striker,” Says Rousey Needs Help & Offers To Train Her

TMZ.com recently caught up with UFC Hall Of Famer Chuck Liddell, who claims he would happily help Ronda Rousey train her striking, which he admitted she needs if she wants to beat UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion and former multiple-time women’s boxing champion Holly Holm in a rematch.

“The Iceman” is one of the clearest-cut examples in the short history of MMA of an elite striker who only used his wrestling and grappling ability to avoid going to the ground or help him get back to his feet if he was taken down. For proof, look no further than the all-time record for knockouts in UFC history, which is still held by Liddell at 13 KOs in 23 appearances inside the Octagon.

For the record, former women’s boxing champion Laila Ali agrees with Liddell as well.

Liddell was asked about Rousey’s trainer Edmond Tarverdyan, who as a former professional boxing trainer is the man responsible for Rousey’s level of striking ability, and admitted that she isn’t on former women’s boxing champion Holly Holm’s level when it comes to striking.

“Is it the guy who told her she could out-strike Holly Holm? Is that the same guy?” said Liddell in sarcastic fashion when asked about Tarverdyan by the TMZ reporter.

After the comedic portion of his response, Liddell followed up with a politically correct statement regarding the improvement Tarverdyan has helped Rousey obtain in the striking department since the former Olympic gold medalist in Judo made the transition to mixed-martial-arts.

“Ronda’s striking has greatly improved. He’s done a great job with her striking,” said Liddell after giving his opinion that Holm is still on another level in the striking department compared to Rousey. Liddell pointed out the fact that there’s a significant gap in talent between a “real pro striker,” which he called Holm, and Rousey, who is a decorated Judo player that has been adding striking to her game the past few years.

Whether or not Rousey seeks out Liddell’s assistance in helping her further develop her stand-up game remains to be seen, however, she may have a chance to prove he and the critics wrong as it was announced by UFC President Dana White this week that November is when Rousey is likely to fight for the title, as she is expected to challenge the winner of the UFC 196 co-main event between Holly Holm and Miesha Tate for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.

Unfortunately for Rousey, she will have to do it without help from Edmond Tarverdyan on fight night.

Check out the full list of current UFC champions and how they came to conquer their divisions. Who is your favorite UFC champ right now?

The current crop of UFC champions is an interesting scene. There’s been new marquee divisions emerge over the recent years, and also the heaviest and lightest divisions continue to struggle in their own respects. We’ve seen a changing of the guard unlike ever before, as all but the flyweight title have changed hands in the last year. It’s crazy when you think about it, as it appears to be getting even harder to be what’s considered a ‘long reigning’ champion.

In honor of the UFC champions that are in place as of today (2/5/2016), we’ve compiled a list of current UFC title holders and how they won their belts. Enjoy.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk wasn't that impressed with Carla Esparza's ...

Joanna Jedrzejczyk

UFC women’s strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk holds all the records at the lowest weight class right now. She is one of the most dominant fighters ever to cross over from the world of Muay Thai, is unbeaten at 11-0 in her mixed martial arts career, and arguably has the best striking in the sport today.

Facing Carla Esparza at UFC 185 in March 2015, a night where two titles changed hands, Joanna ‘Champion’ scored a brutal TKO over a bewildered Esparza.

Demetrious Johnson

Mighty Mouse

Demetrious Johnson is the dominant champion of the UFC flyweight division, but is highly unheralded in his pursuit. Currently riding a nine fight unbeaten streak, seven as champion, he’s rumoured to face Henry Cejudo next time out.

He is the only ever UFC flyweight champ, having won the belt after a tournament in 2012, defeating Joseph Benavidez by decision. As that’s 25 minutes of action though, we’ll show you the rematch, where he blasted ‘J-Bo’ with a stunning first round knockout:

DominickCruzWins

Dominick Cruz

The original UFC bantamweight champion was forced to vacate his belt after years of career threatening injuries to his lower body, making his most recent win so much more special. A brief comeback against Takeya Mizugaki in 2014 showed ‘The Dominator’ was still very motivated, and it sparked a rivalry with the champ of the time, TJ Dillashaw.

The rivalry was settled at UFC Fight Night 81, where Cruz edged his rival on the judge’s scorecards with his incredible footwork.

Laila Ali Predicts Holm-Rousey II Will Be The Same Or Worse As Their First Fight For Rousey

Former UFC title contender Chael Sonnen recently interviewed former women’s boxing mega-star and the daughter of “The Greatest Of All-Time” Muhammad Ali — Laila Ali — for a new episode of “Beyond The Fight” this week. The former undefeated women’s boxing champion got the attention of the MMA world by making a bold prediction for a potential Holly Holm vs. Ronda Rousey rematch.

Ali spoke to “The American Gangster” about her own personal history with Holm before ultimately explaining why she feels Holm will look as good or better if she retains her title against Miesha Tate at UFC 196 and fights Rousey in a rematch in November, which is what UFC President Dana White stated was the plan during an interview on Wednesday.

According to Laila, the big reasons why Rousey was picked apart and ultimately knocked out inside of two rounds was due to a few factors, including what Ali alluded to being a false sense of confidence on Rousey’s part in her belief that she was the best fighter in the world, a lack of respect for Holm’s striking ability in particular, and an extreme lack of head movement during standup exchanges.

“I personally do not think that she’ll beat Holly Holm [in a rematch],” said Ali during the interview with Chael Sonnen, which you can listen to via the video player embedded above. “I think that if she fought her again, then the same thing and worse will happen. Holly Holm was just getting warmed up. You know what I’m saying? She was just getting warmed up. She had nerves, too. This was her big moment.”

Ali continued, explaining how she could tell almost immediately that Rousey wasn’t going to beat Holm in their first meeting at UFC 193 last November, despite the fact that Holm was one of the biggest betting underdogs in MMA history going into the Octagon at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.

“I noticed right away when the fight started, I was like, ‘She doesn’t have any head movement,'” Ali said. “She came straight in and she got busted in the face so many times where she had a bloody nose.

“I saw that the girl she fought wasn’t really a challenge for her, but I was able to see her mistakes. Not moving your head is a big mistake when you’re getting into the ring with someone who has a boxing background.”

Additionally, Ali echoed post-fight sentiments shared by many fans, as well as many people who are personally involved in the sport of MMA in regards to Ronda Rousey not being as good as people thought, but rather a product of the UFC’s excellent promoting abilities mixed with a weak level of opposition in Women’s MMA.

“People hype fighters up, but at the end of the day, what did Ronda Rousey have? 12 fights, something like that,” Ali said. “And they’re calling her the best fighter ever, and I see that she truly believes that about herself.

“You’re only as good as the opposition you face. There were some girls out there I never had the opportunity to face. But I saw Ronda Rousey kind of act like she really does believe that she’s the best female fighter in the world. I was thinking, wow, she hasn’t even faced some of the other girls that are considered to be the best.”

UFC President Dana White is a promoter at heart, and he did his job on Wednesday during a recent interview. According to White, a rematch between UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm and Ronda Rousey would be the biggest fight in UFC history.

“If Holly Holm were to win (at UFC 196), the Holly-Ronda rematch is the biggest fight ever in UFC history, if that rematch happens,” White said in an interview on ESPN’s “Jalen & Jacoby Today” podcast.

That rematch is still up in the air because Holm has a tough test when she fights Miesha Tate at UFC 196 in her first title defense.

White broke down the fight between Rousey and Holm and talked about how stylistically Holm is a tough fight for Rousey.

“Stylistically this is a very, very tough fight because you know how styles make fights,” White said. “Ronda went in with Holly Holm and tried to box with a boxer, whereas Ronda’s game should have been going in there and using her judo. Well, Miesha Tate will go for low singles, double legs. She will try to wrestle Holly Holm. She’s durable, she’s got a great chin and stylistically this is a very tough matchup.”

“Holly doesn’t get overlooked at all,” White said. “She beat the unbeatable. She went in and pushed the impossible. Believe me, she is receiving all the accolades and the financial rewards that go along with a huge accomplishment like that.”

Rousey has gone on record by saying that she would be back fighting again, but not until later this year. It’s expected that once Rousey is ready to fight and if Holm is still champion after UFC 196 then the UFC will book the fight.

Who do you think will win this fight? Let us know.

It sounds like former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey will be returning towards the end of the year. While Rousey is working on the remake of Roadhouse, Holly Holm will fight Meisha Tate at UFC 196 and the winner will take Rousey.

“The winner of that fight will fight Ronda probably in November,” White revealed on “The Neighborhood” with Big Boy on Wednesday. “[Rousey] is very intense. She’s a bad ass. She’ll be back.”

Rousey has yet to personally confirm a November return. If Holm is victorious at UFC 196, her rematch with Ronda Rousey will likely be one of the biggest rematches in the UFC.
