Former UFC champion Ronda Rousey discusses head injuries serious head injuries she suffered during her career.
Rousey remains one of the most influential fighters to ever grace the sport of MMA. However, since her departure from the fight game the former Olympic bronze medallist has little MMA-related appearance, taken part in MMA media, and has hardly even discusses her career.
“It got to the point where if I was getting touched at all, if I was getting jabbed, I was starting to get concussion symptoms and I couldn’t tell my coach about it,” Ronda Rousey said. “I couldn’t tell Dana [White] about it. ‘Cause, they would retire me. They wouldn’t let me fight. And I wasn’t ready to let go. I wasn’t ready to admit that I couldn’t do everything perfectly. ‘Cause that’s what I had to believe to be able to be at that level.” (H/T Brobible)
Ronda Rousey talks damage suffered against Holly Holm
Rousey’s reached the very top of the sport, but it didn’t take very long for things to come crashing down. She would suffer a pivotal knockout loss to Holly Holm, later attempting to come back nearly a year later against Amanda Nunes, losing by first round knockout. She would never fight again.
Further discussing her career, Rousey revealed the extensive damage she suffered during the fight with Holm.
“The first time I got touched in that fight, it knocked all my bottom teeth loose and I was completely out on my feet the entire fight,” Rousey said. “I couldn’t see how far away she was from me, if that makes sense. And [I was] not seeing things as quickly. Usually when I fight, time dilates and I see everything in slow motion. This was like I was in like a fog where I couldn’t tell a range or anything.”

Ahead of her Octagon debut next month in a potential title-eliminator against former bantamweight champion, Holly Holm, Kayla Harrison has vowed to put on such a vicious beating on the Albuquerque veteran at UFC 300, that the promotion will be left with no option to hand her a shot at gold.
Harrison, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner and a two-time lightweight tournament victor under the banner of the PFL (Professional Fighters League) – made her long-anticipated move to the UFC late last year, booking a promotional bow with the returning ex-gold holder, Holm.
Plotting a championship charge against newly-minted gold holder, Raquel Pennington off the back of The Ultimate Fighter veteran’s shutout win over Mayra Bueno Silva back in January, Harrison was promptly urged her hold her proverbial horses.
Kayla Harrison plans title fight after UFC 300 debut
However, speaking during a Q&A session today ahead of UFC 299 this weekend in Miami, Florida, American Top Team staple, Harrison vowed to leave herself irresistible to a title charge – with a dominant win over storied contender, Holm next month at UFC 300.
“I plan on putting on such a beating that they [the UFC] have no choice but to give me a title shot after that,” Kayla Harrison told assembled media and fans during today’s Q&A ahead of UFC 300.
Slated to make bantamweight waters for the first time in her storied and already-illustrious mixed martial arts career, 33-year-old Ohio native was backed to comfortably make 135 pounds by promotional CEO, Dana White ahead of the event next month.
“There’s a misconception out there that I walk around at 180 pounds or something,” Kayla Harrison said. “I have walked around most of my MMA career at 165 [pounds], 160 [pounds]. I don’t like cutting weight. I don’t believe in cutting weight. I don’t think it sends the right message to kids. That being said, I don’t agree with this but sometimes you have to show up and do things you don’t agree with in order to make your dreams come true.”
“The whole time I was [in the PFL], I walked around at 165, maybe 160 and so not only was I usually the smaller fighter with less experience,” Kayla Harrison explained. “I was getting in the cage with girls who were getting in there at 180 [pounds], 175 pounds. Now, that’s not going to be the case.”
Bellator MMA featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg has confirmed she is set to train former undisputed bantamweight titleholder, Holly Holm…
Bellator MMA featherweight champion, Cris Cyborg has confirmed she is set to train former undisputed bantamweight titleholder, Holly Holm for her upcoming UFC 300 fight with former PFL champion, Kayla Harrison in April – rekindling her rivalry with the Ohio native.
Cyborg, a former undisputed UFC featherweight queen, has been sidelined since she featured at Bellator 300 back in November, successfully defending her featherweight crown in a one-sided first round knockout win over fellow Octagon veteran, Cat Zingano.
And struggling to book a fight with either the PFL or Bellator since the Peter Murray-led promotion bought out the latter, Cyborg has announced plans to make another boxing appearance in her time away from mixed martial arts.
Cris Cyborg to train Holly Holm for fight with Kayla Harrison
“I already have a date to go to Albuquerque – I’m very excited,” Cris Cyborg told James Lynch during a recent interview. “I talked to the team, talked to Holly (Holm) – we’ve been studying Kayla (Harrison) for a little while already. I have been training for her already.”
“I’m a super fan of Holly Holm,” Cris Cyborg continued. “I think she’s a legend. She’s a big example to female fighters. [I’ll] be a part of her camp, and I think she’s going to come with a great victory. It’s going to be good.”
Herself fighting Holm back in 2017, Cyborg headlined UFC 219 against the boxing Hall of Famer, landing a unanimous decision win to successfully defend her undisputed featherweight championship.
Remaining sceptical of Harrison’s ability to successfully make the bantamweight limit for her UFC 300 debut inside the Octagon, Holm claimed she would likely skirt a fight with the two-time Olympic gold medalist if she failed to successfully tip the scales.

Former undisputed bantamweight champion, Holly Holm may be pre-occupied with a pivotal clash against the debuting, Kayla Harrison at UFC 300 in April, however, the Albuquerque native claims she would be more than willing to welcome prior-foe, Amanda Nunes back to the Octagon in a rematch if the Brazilian makes good on a rumored comeback.
Holm, the current number five ranked bantamweight contender, is slated to make her return to the Octagon at UFC 300 in April, taking on former two-time PFL lightweight tournament victor and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Harrison in the latter’s first venture to the Octagon.
Sidelined since she headlined a UFC Apex facility card against recent vacant title chaser, Mayra Bueno Silva, former champion, Holm saw an initial ninja choke submission loss to the Brazilian overturned to an official ‘No Contest’ after the former tested positive for ritalinic acid.
Holly Holm welcomes rematch fight with Amanda Nunes
“[Amanda] Nunes [may come back to the UFC],” Holly Holm told MMA Fighting. “That was even one of the things I thought when they [the UFC] were like, ‘We’ve got a fight for you, trust me, we’ve just got to see. I wonder if it would be like she’d have to at least have one fight before [she earned a title fight] if she came back and at one point, my coach and I were like, ‘No, probably not.’”
“I didn’t think anything and then it was like, ‘Did you see something about Nunes maybe coming back?’ I thought about it too, but I don’t know,” Holly Holm explained. “I do think that she’s enjoying time off. She was pretty active in being a double champion and all that. I have all the respect for her in this sport. Another fighter that’s fought the top girls. You really can’t take anything away from Amanda.”
