Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm is set to meet Valentina Shevchenko at UFC on FOX 20. This bout is scheduled to be the main event of that show. Holm is sticking to her guns so to speak as she was recently offered a role in a huge movie but turned it down so she could keep her focus on Shevchenko. Her manager explained this and also took a shot at former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in the meantime.

“She’s focused on fighting,” manager Lenny Fresquez told TMZ. “We don’t want to make the same mistakes that somebody else made.”

No word yet on what the movie was but Holm has become a popular fighter so it must have been pretty big.

Holm beat Rousey at UFC 193 by second round knockout but lost to Miesha Tate at UFC 196 by fifth-round submission in her next bout and first title defense.

UFC on FOX 20 takes place on July 23, 2016, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. The prelims will air on UFC Fight Pass and FOX Sports 1 while the main card will air on FOX.

Apparently WWE is working on getting some of UFC’s better-known and more recognizable female fighters to make an appearance of some kind at their upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view event in August, which will also feature the return of WWE/UFC crossover athlete, Brock Lesnar.

According to a report at pro wrestling insider website PWInsider.com, WWE has had recent discussions about getting some UFC female fighters to interact with their female WWE Superstars in some type of segment during the SummerSlam event, which is essentially WWE’s “WrestleMania” event for the summer.

Apparently WWE specifically has their eye on UFC Women’s Strawweight contender Paige VanZant, who just finished second on the most recent season of the hit reality television show, “Dancing With The Stars.”

One would assume that other names WWE would like to have involved would include current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate, former champion Holly Holm, UFC contender and Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino, and any of the Four Horsewomen, which consists of Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir, Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke.

It should be noted, however, that none of the aforementioned fighters were specifically mentioned in any reports, outside of VanZant.

With current WWE Superstar Lesnar returning to the UFC for a fight against number eight ranked Heavyweight contender Mark Hunt at the landmark UFC 200 event in July, one would assume that the door is open for negotiations between the UFC and WWE for some type of UFC involvement at the WWE SummerSlam event in August, which as noted, will also feature Lesnar.

WWE SummerSlam is scheduled for Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Brooklyn, New York.

Ronda Rousey Files Trademark For Strange New Slogan

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was seemingly untouchable during her run on top of the 135-pound division. After submitting Miesha Tate for the Strikeforce belt and defending against Sarah Kaufman, ‘Rowdy’ crossed over to the UFC following a sub against Liz Carmouche to take the promotion by storm.

Her reign would last three years, and the further through the contenders Rousey got, the quicker they were being dispatched. After topping Miesha Tate again at UFC 168, the former Olympic Judoka began really trimming th crop, with back-to-back knockout wins over Alexis Davis and Sara McMann that lasted just under 90 seconds in total. The dominance spilled over in to 2015, where things all came to a head.

Taking out Cat Zingano in 14 seconds and fierce trash talker Bethe Correia in 34 seconds, Rousey began to etch her name in the record books, and it wasn’t only the UFC that wanted to put her in the public eye. In terms of media attention outside the octagon, even legends like Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva hadn’t received such a concentrated dose.

The UFC, never one to miss out on a good investment, took the initiative and spent some serious dollar on promoting her next fight. Booked in to face Holly Holm at UFC 193 in December 2015, marking the fist time she’d fought more than twice in a year since 2011, the hype was taken up a notch.
The ‘Revolution’ promo was truly production at the highest level in UFC history, and many believe it to be the best single video the UFC had ever released. After taking out her opponents in such brutal and one sided fashion in the preceding few years, the girl that used to live out the back of her $500 Honda was suddenly the biggest superstar in mixed martial arts history.

Then came Melbourne…

Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey’s Octagon return may be a little later than we expected.

In a recent interview with ESPN (via MMAFighting.com) UFC President Dana White revealed that ‘Rowdy’ actually underwent a minor knee surgery yesterday:

“Ronda Rousey, I don’t know,” White said. “I’m hoping we’re going to get Ronda back this year. She actually just had surgery yesterday on her knee.

Nothing serious, just get in there, scope it and clean it out a little bit. She feels great. Her spirits are great. She’s been training.”

When asked of a possible return date for the former 135-pound queen, White named December or January as possible target dates:

“If she fights, I’m hoping she fights in December. If not, then she would probably fight at the New Years show at the beginning of the year,” White noted.

White also stated that upon her return, Rousey will be granted an immediate title bout regardless of the title-holder. The UFC President also named Holly Holm as a possible return bout for the former champ:

If Miehsa Tate’s still the champion, she’ll fight Miesha Tate. Whoever has the belt is who Ronda Rousey will fight.”

“Injuries happen in this sport and a fight is made. Somebody falls out and somebody else slides in,” he explained.

“I’m not even saying Holly Holm couldn’t be the champion by the time Ronda comes back. So, whoever holds that belt when Ronda’s ready.”

Rousey was initially rumored to be ready to make her Octagon return at the UFC’s inaugural Madison Square Garden event in November. It appears, however, that is no longer the case due to Rousey’s recent knee operation.

Fight fans must start beginning to wonder if we will ever see ‘Rowdy’ compete inside the Octagon again…
