Ahead of his August Octagon return at UFC 292 in Boston, undefeated welterweight contender, Ian Machado Garry has hyped up his incoming clash with Geoff Neal – selling a slew of t-shirts sporting the Texan kickboxer’s mugshot from a prior arrest on his official website.

Machado Garry, who earned the number thirteen rank in the official welterweight pile back in May on the main card of UFC Fight Night Columbus, turning in a one-sided opening round high-kick and strikes TKO win over Daniel Rodrigeuz.

As for Neal, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum most recently featured at UFC 285 back in March against the unbeaten, Shavkat Rakhmonov, suffering an eventual third round standing rear-naked choke defeat. Neal has since retained the number eight rank in the official welterweight stack.

In a bid to hype up his pay-per-view clash with striking talent, Neal, former Cage Warriors kingpin, Ian Machado Garry sported a t-shirt emblazoned with a mugshot of the former during his November 2021 arrest at UFC 290 over the weekend – before taking the decision to sell shirts of the jab on his official website.

Responding to Machado Garry’s personal dig at him, Neal claimed that the Dublin-born striker was “dead” when they share the Octagon at UFC 292 in August – labelling the 25-year-old as “straight trash”.

“Turns out Ian Garry is straight trash,” Geoff Neal’s father posted on Facebook. “That’s Geoff mugshot on his (Machado Garry) shirt. Weirdo thought it would be cute to wear this shirt to UFC 290. “He’s so far back from the necessary fighters that no one gave a damn. I hope like hell he stays healthy so he makes to the 19th. [UFC 292] It’s been a minute since somebody spoke out of place… ask Bilal (sic) (Belal Muhammad) and Mike Perry how that worked for them.”

Furthermore, in a screenshot shared on social media, Neal, who had become aware of Ian Machado Garry’s choice of attire, claimed the Portmarnock native was “dead”.

Off the back of his hard-fought split decision win over Phil Rowe in his return to the winner’s enclosure at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville over the course of the weekend, welterweight staple, Neil Magny has called for a clash with undefeated Dubliner, Ian Machado Garry before the turn of the year.

Magny, who landed his whopping twenty first Octagon win at the welterweight limit over the course of weekend – extended his lead as the most winningest fighter in the weight class in the history of the UFC.

Battling over the course of three rounds with Rowe, Neil Magny the current number eleven ranked contender, had previously suffered a dominant first round arm-triangle submission loss to Gilbert Burns in a pivotal clash on enemy territory at UFC 283 back in January in Brazil.

As for Portmarnock native, Machado Garry, the Dubliner improved to 12-0 as a professional earlier this year, snatching the number thirteenth rank in the division with a blistering first round high kick and strikes knockout win over Daniel Rodriguez back in May.

Off the back of his fifth Octagon victory, Machado Garry has been booked to return at UFC 292 in August in Boston, Massachusetts, taking on soon-to-be common-foe, Geoff Neal

Neil Magny offers to fight Ian Machado Garry later this year

However, despite booking a summer bout with Neal, Machado Garry appears to have caught the eye of another Neil – in the form of welterweight staple Magny, who offered to fight him before the close of this annum.

“I’m going to draw a blank to his name, but I guess there’s some little Irish kid calling me out,” Neil Magny told assembled media after UFC Jacksonville. “Ian, whatever his name is. I know he’s been really chippy or whatever, but he definitely asked for the wrong Neil. If I get a chance to run that fight sometime this year, I’m definitely game for it.”

A former undisputed welterweight champion under the banner of Cage Warriors, Machado Garry has defeated Jordan Williams, Darian Weeks, Gabe Green, Kenan Song, and the aforenoted, Rodriguez since his move to the UFC.

Ian Garry vows to bring UFC back to Dublin calls for fight with Wonderboy Thompson

Ian Machado Garry is never a man short on confidence, and this time it’s placed in the idea that he will be the man to bring the UFC back to Dublin.

Garry’s stock is at an all-time high after knocking out the previously granite-chinned Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Charlotte in an emerging performance. He now believes it is time for his true arrival on the scene, a homecoming to his native Ireland, Dublin to be specific.

For Ian Machado Garry, the timing is also perfect. With Irish MMA looking likely to hit a golden age at any moment, he hopes Dana White will take full advantage.

“You’ve obviously got Conor on the comeback, whenever he’s back against Chandler. And then you look at it, we’ve got three Cage Warriors Irish Champions. We’ve got Caolan Loughran, we’ve got Paul Hughes, we’ve got Rhys McKee. Those boys are all on the verge of signing for the UFC now, so it is inevitable that the UFC is going to come back.”

Rumored to be fighting Stephen Thompson next, it is hard to dispute that it would be a massive return event headliner, should it come to fruition.

“Why wouldn’t we go and do that in Ireland and why wouldn’t we go and do it against someone who’s going to bring in the fans? … Could you imagine me vs. Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson as the main event in Dublin, Ireland, and then stack the card with Irish and European talent from top to bottom. You wouldn’t have to sell any other fighters, you just have me and Wonderboy and it would sell it out.”

Ian Machado Garry places enormous weight on his ability to get the UFC back to the emerald isles, but believes that it is just around the corner.

“So it makes so much sense, and I believe Dana will bring us back, and I believe he will make a return to Ireland at one point in time, early next year I believe. It’s on me to keep pushing for that. It’s for me to put my nation on my back and carry them through and keep winning and show them that I want them back.”

Garry, 25, is likely set to enter the welterweight top-15 rankings come Tuesday next week, stopping the current placeholder, Rodriguez with a stunning first round high-kick and ground strikes knockout in the opening round of their main card clash last night in North Carolina.

The victory came as Ian Machado Garry, a former Cage Warriors titleholder, fifth on the bounce in the promotion, improving him to 12-0 as a professional to boot off the back of triumphs against Jordan Williams, Darian Weeks, Gabe Green, and Kenan Song to boot.

Earning a Performance of the Night bonus for his stunning efforts to become the first to dispatch Californian kickboxer, Rodriguez with strikes last night, Ian Machado Garry called for a showdown with perennial division contender, Neil Magny following his first round stoppage win.

Receiving a slew of props off the back of his first round win last night, Ian Machado Garry – who had predicted a high kick stoppage win over Rodriguez six weeks out from their showdown, saw his performance described as flawless, while others noted how he is, in fact, what polarizing prospect, Pimblett believes he is.

“I was in a little meeting, should we say, with the big boys,” Ian Garry told Megan Olivi. “With Dana, Hunter, and Sean Shelby. And we just spoke about – I said to them, ‘Hey, if you heard about my six fight plan?’ And they said no. The 25-year-old spoke with Givemesport.com about his desire to be “Wonderboy’s” last challenger inside the octagon

“I want to fight Wonderboy out of nothing but love and respect for the dude,” Garry said. “I think he’s an awesome person. I’ve obviously had the pleasure of training with him briefly leading up to my last fight.”

“We finally got to see him put in there against a striker in Kevin Holland at UFC Orlando. That was just such a fun fight to watch,” Garry said. “It’s not about him retiring. He just had one of the best performances of his career. But I would love to be that retirement fight for him when he feels the time is right.”

Thompson last fought on December’s UFC on ESPN card where he finished Kevin Holland in the fourth round. The TKO performance earned him a fight of the night bonus. The 39-year-old recently shot down retirement rumors and insisted that he was still chasing UFC gold.

Ian Machado Garry Wants A Shot Against A UFC Legend

Garry (10-0) is a rising contender in the welterweight division. The undefeated Irish star last defeated Gabe Green at UFC 276. Since signing with the UFC in 2021, Garry has gone 3-0 inside the octagon. Before that, he was a former Cage Warriors champion.

The Kill Cliff FC fighter believes a matchup with Thompson would be a “perfect farewell” for the MMA legend. He says it’s “Wonderboy’s” decision on when and if he wants to retire. Nonetheless, the Irish star says Thompson has “done so much for the sport”.

“Obviously being friends with Wonderboy, I think it would be such a cool opportunity for both of us. He gets the perfect farewell whenever it may be. We can both headline a card together. I know people would want to see that.“I want to make sure his last fight is a striker. I don’t want to see him being thrown in there with another wrestler. I don’t think that would be fair for him. It’s all about putting on a show for the fans. I think I’d be too fast for him.” (h/t Givemesport.com)
