“The Ultimate Fighter 27” Finale emanated tonight (Friday, July 6, 2018) from the Pearl Theatre in Paradise, Nevada, and was headlined by a middleweight showcase between fast-rising Israel Adesanya and longtime divisional stalwart Brad Tavares. Adesanya passed the stiffest test of his career in emphatic fashion, battering Tavares for the better part of 25 minutes. Despite not garnering a finish, the display “The Last Stylebender” put on was impressive enough to earn him a Performance of the Night bonus and an extra $50,000.

The other Performance of the Night went to a lightweight competitor from TUF who was eliminated from the tournament by injury during taping. Luis Pena won his quarterfinal bout, but a broken foot took him out of action for the remainder of the show. He returned healthy to battle Richie Smullen, also eliminated by injury (before he even fought). “Violent Bob Ross” beat up Smullen on the feet, dropped him, then jumped on to finish the fight by first-round guillotine choke. He won’t leave the competition the “Ultimate Fighter”, but he’s still undefeated and now $50,000 richer.

Finally, the Fight of the Night went to longtime UFC action fighter Alex Caceres and former TUF Latin America winner Martin Bravo. Caceres still does not deal well with pressure, tiring and getting tagged more and more as the fight went on, but he had a lot of success early on the forward-moving Bravo. “Bruce Leeroy” dropped Bravo in round two and rocked him badly a second time, but the Mexican scrapper persevered. Bravo took it to Caceres in round three but still ate plenty of return fire in the process. Both men somehow heard the final horn, and Caceres was awarded with a split decision victory to even his UFC record at 9-9. Both he and Bravo will leave Las Vegas tomorrow $50,000 richer for their efforts.

The finale of “The Ultimate Fighter 27” went down tonight (Friday, July 6, 2018) from the Pearl Theatre in Paradise, Nevada. The night was headlined by hot middleweight prospect Israel Adesanya taking on longtime staple and Top-10 185er Brad Tavares. The New Zealander passed the biggest test of his career, beating Tavares from pillar to post for the entire 25 minutes.

In the lightweight final of “The Ultimate Fighter 27”, Mike Trizano outlasted Joe Giannetti. Their fight was a weird one. Giannetti seemed relaxed to a fault. His flowy, kick-centric style worked for a round. Trizano got his wrestling going in round two, leading to some weird and awkward positions. “The Lone Wolf” then stayed busy, composed, and moving forward in the decisive round to seal it.

The featherweight final saw Jay Cucciniello’s bid for a remarkable comeback halted by a smart, workmanlike performance from Brad Katona. A steady diet of hooks and leg kicks backed up by takedowns and top control later buoyed the Canadian to a clear-cut decision victory.

A potential star was set to rise when touted middleweight prospect Israel Adesanya met longtime vet Brad Tavares in the main event of last night’s (Fri., July 6, 2018) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 27 Finale from the Pearl Theatre in Paradise, Nevada.

And when the dust settled, Adesanya had proved why he rates as one of the UFC’s biggest prospects by impressively dominating the No. 8-ranked middleweight in the UFC from pillar to post.

“The Last Stylebender” looked nothing short of amazing with his varied striking offense, landing fast low and body kicks, laser-like punches, and vicious Muay Thai knees and elbows for five full rounds. Tavares could mount little offense, throwing several wild shots and missing on all but 1 of his unofficial 11 takedown attempts.

Adesanya started his parade of massive significant strikes by nailing Tavares with a body kick that appeared to rock him momentarily:

Adesanya then wobbled Tavares with a sharp two-punch combination featuring an exclamation point of a right hand:

Finally, “The Last Stylebender” scored with a move that looked like it was straight out Anderson Silva’s playbook, grabbing Tavares’ wrist and hitting him with a perfect short elbow that gave him a nasty cut for the rest of the fight:

Adesanya was then declared the clear-cut winner in by far his biggest UFC fight to stay undefeated and continue his rise up to the top of the UFC 185-pound class:

Brad Tavares had no answer for Israel Adesanya.

Adesanya finally had the chance to showcase just how good he is. It was sink or swim for “The Last Stylebender,” who received his first UFC main event and a top-10 middleweight. Adesanya passed with flying colors.

Adesanya wasted little time going high with a kick. Tavares closed the distance and moved in for the clinch. Adesanya got out of the clinch. A leg kick was there for Adesanya. A right hand was there for Tavares. Adesanya landed a leg kick followed by a kick to the body. There was a clear speed advantage for Adesanya. Tavares shot in on a single leg, but Adesanya avoided the takedown. Adesanya rolled for a leg lock near the end of the round.

Adesanya landed a couple of leg kicks early in the second round. He went for a wheel kick. Tavaeres shot in deep and drove Adesanya against the fence. “The Last Stylebender” reversed the position and returned to the center of the Octagon. Tavares was struggling to close the distance. He was able to get a right hand in. Referee Herb Dean warned Adesanya of sticking his fingers out. A kick from Adesanya rocked Tavares.

The third round was underway and Adesanya looked to pic up where he left off. Tavares started to connect with the jab. A knee to the chin was there for Adesanya. Adesanya tripped his opponent down. Another knee landed for Adesanya followed by a body kick. Tavares had another takedown attempt stuffed. Adesanya landed an elbow off the clinch break. A big left hand buckled Tavares. Adesanya got in an uppercut. A head kick landed for Adesanya near the end of the round.

Right away in the fourth round, Adesanya connected with a combination. Tavares shot in and he was finally able to take his opponent down. Adesanya locked in a triangle, but couldn’t hold it. Tavares took the back of Adesanya, but he was too close to the fence. Adesnaya got back up and used a kimura to get his opponent on the ground. The fight stood back up and Adesanya had Tavares’ nose leaking blood. Herb Dean called time for the doctor to look at a cut above the eye of Tavares. It was from a short elbow. Time resumed and Adesanya continued to look as fresh as he did in round one. Adesanya landed a knee to the body.

The final round was underway and Tavares couldn’t get a takedown. Adesanya stuffed another takedown atteempt and ended up in top control. Tavares went for a kneebar, but there was nothing there. Adesanya passed guard, but let his opponent back up. “The Last Stylebender” landed a knee upstairs. The final horn sounded, this was a clinic.

Final Result: Israel Adesanya def. Brad Tavares via unanimous decision (49-46, 50-45, 50-45)
