Alex Pereira tipped to struggle in UFC light heavyweight move he's gonna have some problems

Former UFC middleweight champion, Alex Pereira reacts to his next matchup against Jan Blachowicz, this time at light-heavyweight.

Just over three months on from his brutal knockout loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287, Pereira will be returning to action. Along with several other exciting matchups, it was recently announced the ‘Poatan’ will be making his awaited move up in weight class, and would be taking on former 205lbs champion, Blawhowicz.

Blachowicz is currently ranked No.3 in at light-heavyweight and with the current state of the division, any big win could see anyone ranked one through five could see themselves in a title fight.

“My next opponent will be Jan Blachowicz,” Pereira said via his YouTube channel. “He is a dangerous guy, an experienced guy, and a guy we know because of my training partner, Glover Teixeira, who fought him. I’m sure training hard and together with Glover, he will pass me a lot of stuff for sure like he is always doing.” (H/T MMA Mania)

Alex Pereira not surprised by big fight for first at 205lbs

While it is a huge opportunity for someone coming off a loss and moving up, Pereira said he expected one of this magnitude and is ready to challenge himself at a different weight.

“Everybody knows Blachowicz is a dangerous guy, an all-rounder, but I think it’s a good first fight for me,” said Pereira. “When I saw my first fight, some people will think, ‘Oh, that’s an easy opponent.’ No. All of you know my story. I was Middleweight champ. So, for sure, they wanted to give me one of the Top 5 ranked [guys]. For me, it wasn’t a surprise. We were negotiating a while, I was waiting for him. So, that’s it.”

The pair will fight in the co-main event slot of UFC 291 On July 29 in what will be a battle between two serious power punchers.

Israel Adesanya previews next UFC fight It's going to be something special

Expected to headline a pay-per-view return to Sydney, Australia for the UFC before the close of his year, undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya claims his next outing will bring “something special” – regardless of outcome.

Adesanya, the current undisputed middleweight champion, headlined UFC 287 back in April most recently, recapturing the division throne with a stunning second round knockout win over arch-rival, Alex Pereira – defeating the Brazilian for the first time during their four-fight combat sports series.

Back in November of last year, the City Kickboxing staple suffered his first professional loss at the middleweight limit in mixed martial arts, dropping a fifth round standing TKO loss against Pereira – as the duo rekindled their rivalry.

Expected to return to the Octagon to kick-off his second middleweight title reign before the close of this annum, Israel Adesanya has been earmarked to headline a pay-per-view return ‘Down Under’ for the organization by UFC leader, Dana White.

And in terms of opponents, the Nigerian-Kiwi is expected to fight either former champion, Robert Whittaker in a third title fight between the duo, or South African contender, Dricus du Plessis – with the pair featuring in a championship-eliminator at UFC 290 during International Fight Week in July.

Israel Adesanya is set to fight Robert Whittaker or Dricus du Plessis next

Previewing his next outing under the promotion’s banner, Adesanya claimed that he would bring “something special” into his next clash.

“Face the Pain,” Israel Adesanya tweeted. “Back in the day when you heard this track… you know sh*ts about to get REAL!! We’ve come a looong way as a sport. It’s been awesome to watch the growth… then I jumped in the game and played my part in taking it to new levels and to millions (and millions) of new people around the world. My next game will be something special, regardless of who wins. Who do you want to win, Rob or Dricus, and why?”

Israel Adesanya scorches ex-girlfriend take half my sh*t UFC

Israel Adesanya’s public spat with ex-girlfriend Charlotte Powdrell has seemingly taken a turn for the worse as she is reportedly taking the two-time UFC champion to court in an effort to strip him of half his assets.

Days removed from his second-round knockout of longtime rival Alex Pereira at UFC 287, ‘The Last Stylebender’ posted a scathing social media rant directed at Powdrell, accusing her of selling information about him. A month later, Israel Adesanya appears to be preparing for a battle in court as his ex-girlfriend is now suing him for half his wealth. The news first hit headlines when No. 2 ranked bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley spoke about the situation on his The BRO’Malley Show podcast.

“I’d seen Izzy tweet something and I was confused because I didn’t really know, but Izzy’s ex-girlfriend, they’re not married, right, wants half of his shit,” O’Malley said. “I don’t know how their relationship was because I didn’t even know he had a girlfriend, but to want half of what he’s gone out there and done is absolutely ridiculous… I mean it’s hard to say who knows maybe if they were together for 15 years since the beginning and she didn’t work because she was constantly making him food massage and at the gym doing all this stuff for him.”

Israel Adesanya Confirms Potential Court Case in Another Nasty Social Media Rant Directed at Ex-Girlfriend

Considering Israel Adesanya’s clearly aggravated post a month earlier, it didn’t seem far-fetched to think that things had taken a legal turn for the worse between the former couple. However, Israel Adesanya ended all speculation when he appeared to confirm O’Malley’s comments in a series of posts made to his Instagram Stories.

“‘I’ve worked in mental health so Im really good at manipulating people…but like I would never use it.’

‘It’s not always fun living in his shadow and taking second priority because what he is doing is so important. After a while it just makes me feel small.’

“‘Izzy if I move out I’ll drift away.’

“…I wish I let you drift away into a miserable existence, because misery loves company and you love being a victim,” Israel Adesanya posted. “Anywhore, sign the tenancy agreement ASAP. Also I really hope you lawyer up and come for my assets like you said, I hope you try affect my businesses such as Puma with your weak bitch threats. Please please do so, let pay for it all, you have a sugar daddy now who will pay for everything.

“For someone who moves in silence he sure does talk a lot about you guy’s plans lol. Mentally drain me…hahaha!! You are pathetic, even worse than when you said ‘well you’re gonna have to break up with me then.’ so you can be a victim just the way you like it. You’re just like (redacted) and you’re worse than (redacted). Show this to (redacted), show this to your lawyer too.

“You have never helped me make money, only ever cost me money. Now you think you deserve half my shit? What an entitled pompous BRAT you are. I spit on you. I dare you to start your stupid campaign. Your threats don’t work here anymore, they’re fired! You are responsible for your emotions. You don’t care about my life cuz you’ve sold info about me, so I don’t care about yours. I don’t even hate you, I just don’t care about you. I’ve not been in love with you for a while.

“In summary I am glad all this happened, I wouldn’t change a fucking thing. I’m glad I finally have someone who can stand next to me and not feel like my shine takes away from theirs, confident in her own light.

“This will be the last time you are hearing from me. My lawyers will be in touch ??

“Bye Stylebender’s ex.”

Taking a page out of Israel Adesanya’s book, UFC flyweight standout Tim Elliott recently aired some dirty laundry, revealing that his ex-wife, former UFC competitor Gina Mazany, had a long-term affair with mutual friend and teammate Kevin Croom. It’s certainly an unfortunate situation that both individuals have found themselves in, but needless to say, Israel Adesanya appears confident that he will come out on top in court, just as he did at UFC 287 last month.

Johnny Eblen touts ability to defeat Israel Adesanya I think I destroy him UFC Bellator MMA

Bellator MMA middleweight champion, Johnny Eblen has been touted as arguably the best fighter at the weight class on the planet amid his roughshod run through the ranks under the scrutiny of Scott Coker, and now the American Top Team staple has claimed he would “destroy” his UFC champion counterpart, Israel Adesanya.

Boasting an undefeated 13-0 professional record, Eblen managed to clinch the undisputed middleweight champion from former UFC top-contender, Gegard Mousasi back in June of last year in the main event of Bellator 282, landing a one-sided unanimous decision victory.

Successfully defending the crown in the main event of Bellator 290 back in February in Inglewood, California, Eblen landed another shutout decision success, this time against Anatoly Tokov.

Johnny Eblen believes he matches up perfectly with UFC kingpin, Israel Adesanya

And with one eye firmly placed on this weekend’s middleweight clash between the aforenoted, Mousasi and Fabian Edwards – the younger brother of current undisputed UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, Johnny Eblen claimed if he was pitted with City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya, he would comfortably “destroy” the Nigerian-Kiwi.

“I think I destroy ‘Stylebender’ (Israel Adesanya),” Johnny Eblen told Peter Carroll during a recent episode of The Craic. “It’s just a bad matchup for him, I just mix things up too well. I wrestle, strike and he really exposed himself when he fought (Alex) Pereira, how bad his grappling was. So, I just think I’m a terrible matchup for him.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

For Adesanya, the Eugene Bareman product managed to reclaim the middleweight crown at UFC 287 back in April against four-time combat sports rival, Alex Pereira, stopping the Brazilian with a devastating second round KO in their Miami, Florida main event.

Yet to be booked for his impending Octagon return, UFC president, Dana White has earmarked Adesanya for a Sydney, Australia headlining return for the promotion before the end of this year, in a pay-per-view main event against either former champion, Robert Whittaker in a trilogy bout, or emerging South African challenger, Dricus du Plessis.

Colby Covington eyes future fight with UFC Israel Adesanya I don't think he can hang with me

Former interim UFC welterweight champion, Colby Covington claims he is still open to a future fight with current middleweight kingpin, Israel Adesanya – claiming he has the attributes to firmly separate himself from the gold holder if they share the Octagon.

Covington, the current #2 ranked welterweight contender, is a former interim gold holder in the division, and is expected to return to the Octagon later this year.

Pegged to feature in an undisputed welterweight title fight in his comeback clash, Covington is earmarked to fight current division gold holder, Leon Edwards before the close of the year – welcoming any possible date for his pairing with the Birmingham native.

Sidelined since headlining UFC 272 back in March of last year, Clovis native, Covington most recently landed a one-sided unanimous decision win over the recently retired, Jorge Masvidal in the pair’s heated grudge match.

As for Adesanya, the two-time undisputed middleweight kingpin headlined UFC 287 back in April, stopping former champion, Alex Pereira in their championship rematch with a thunderous second round KO victory.

Colby Covington voices interest in future fight against Israel Adesanya

Eyeing an eventual fight with Adesanya off the back of his decision win over Masvidal last year, Covington claimed he is still open to the possibility of fighting the Nigerian-Kiwi in the future.

“Absolutely [I’d still love that matchup], I think that’s a huge fight and it’s a fight of high magnitude,” Colby Covington told of a fight with Israel Adesanya during an interview with MMA Fighting. “I like the matchup, to be honest, I don’t think he can hang with me. I think I take him down. I beat him from pillar to post and I just break him inside that Octagon.”

“He can’t hang with the cardio king,” Colby Covington explained. “He’s not ready for all-American steel and twisted sex appeal. I would love that fight, champion versus champion – USA versus wherever he’s from – New Zealand or whatever. Let’s get this going.”

Alex Pereira

Alex Pereira is back in the gym just over a month removed from his second-round knockout loss at the hands of longtime rival Israel Adesanya.

After tormenting ‘The Last Stylebender’ under the GLORY Kickboxing banner, Alex Pereira followed the New Zealander into the UFC, intent on taking his middleweight world title. Pereira did exactly that, scoring a fifth-round knockout against Adesanya at UFC 281 in November. Five months later, Adesanya finally broke through, earning his first win over Pereira with a brutal knockout in the second round of their UFC 287 rematch.

A month removed from his first loss inside the Octagon, Alex Pereira is back in the gym and preparing for his next opponent.

Dana White Rules Out Alex Pereira vs. Israel Adesanya Trilogy Bout

With Israel Adesanya focused on facing the winner of UFC 290’s title eliminator between Robert Whittaker and Dricus Du Plessis, Alex Pereira will likely turn his attention to the light heavyweight division. No official date or opponent has been announced for his 205-pound debut, but there is no shortage of fighters willing to step up and welcome ‘Poatan’ to the once-prestigious weight class.

Pereira is 7-2 in mixed martial arts, owning notable wins over Sean Strickland and the aforementioned Israel Adesanya. Recently, Pereira and Adesanya have been observed going back and forth on social media regarding a potential trilogy bout inside the Octagon. Unfortunately, Dana White has little interest in seeing that happen.

Who would you like to see Alex Pereira square off with in his highly anticipated light heavyweight debut?
