Diego Sanchez has left his longtime mixed martial arts (MMA) gym of Jackson-Wink MMA ahead of his Octagon return.
Sanchez will be making his return to action at UFC 239 next month against Michael Chiesa at 170 pounds. During UFC 239 media day this week, Sanchez revealed he has actually departed Jackson-Wink MMA and will only be working with one training partner moving forward (via MMA Junkie):
“I made a crucial decision,” Sanchez said. “This is a Diego Sanchez moment. I made a crucial decision. It’s three weeks before the fight. No more JW – Jackson-Wink, one of the best teams in the world. No. I’m going in with one trainer. I’m going in with one trainer. People are like, ‘Wow, what the hell, Diego? What are you thinking?’
“Well, I’m not only thinking, I’m feeling. That’s a big part of who Diego Sanchez is: I don’t think too much. I don’t think it’s good to think too much. I think you’ve got to feel. You’ve got to feel this – your gut. You’ve got to feel this part right here that’s inside of you. All I know is I wasn’t learning.
“I wasn’t growing as a mixed martial artist, that they were teaching me with the knowledge and information as trainers that they were doing. They were just basically going through the motions with Diego Sanchez.”
UFC 239 goes down live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 6. Despite his departure from Jackson-Wink, however, he has nothing negative to say about the gym or its trainers – Mike Winkeljohn and Greg Jackson:
“Nothing but respect for Winkeljohn and Greg,” Sanchez said. “I love those guys. I am grateful and I express a huge amount of gratitude right now to both Mike Winkeljohn, to Greg Jackson, to Jackson’s MMA. Everything. All the way up.
“All the training parters that got in that room and helped me become the man that I am right now, I appreciate. For this time in my career, there was no focus on Diego. There was no real love on Diego Sanchez.
“Maybe because we’ve got two belt fights, Jon (Jones) and Holly (Holm at UFC 239), but you know what? I don’t give a (expletive). I don’t give a (expletive). I’m Diego Sanchez. I am special. I’m a Hall of Famer.”

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has no plans on reuniting with his former Jackson-Wink mixed martial arts (MMA) gym.
Cerrone and coach Mike Winkeljohn had a very bad falling out with one another that was very public. Things hit a boiling point ahead of Cerrone’s fight with Mike Perry late last year. Since the fall out Cerrone has maintained a good relationship with coach Greg Jackson, however, his time with the Jackson-Wink team has ultimately come to an end.
Speaking at a fan Q&A during UFC 234 fight week in Australia, Cerrone was asked about possibly returning to the Jackson-Wink gym. “Cowboy” confirmed that bridge is pretty much burnt (via MMA News):
“Hell no. You burn a bridge with me, you’re dead my friend,” Cerrone said.
Cerrone seems very happy with his current position. He trains out of his own “BMF Ranch” in New Mexico. Not only is “Cowboy” able to simply walk to his backyard to train, but he also flies in his own coaches, and can enjoy a cold beer after a hard training session:
“I just don’t understand why people don’t invest more in themselves,” Cerrone said. “Every time I got money I would just keep building and building and building and building this compound because it’s all about me. It’s very selfish in this sport.
“I think it’s a good idea, I just walk out of my bed, go to my backyard and train, I fly all my coaches in, s—t it works for me. I got a [fridge] full of Budweiser and a house full of coaches. That’s what we do.”
As of late, Cerrone has been linked to talks of a fan-favorite match-up between himself and Conor McGregor. Talk of the match-up really begun to heat up after Cerrone’s victory at UFC Brooklyn last month. McGregor is currently serving a six-month suspension for his involvement in a post-fight brawl at UFC 229. He’s eligible to return to action in April.

Jackson Wink MMA and the American Top Team have gotten their Instagram accounts tempariliy disabled due to the promotion filing a copyright infringment claim.
Billion-dollar organizations like the UFC have protocol in place for situations such as this. However, the punishment may not fit the crime. here.
The UFC social media police were on full prowl mode as Black House MMA also revealed they had their account deleted. However, it looks like their account has since been restored.
To be clear, it’s not totally uncommon for the UFC to strike so swiftly. However, for the promotion to come down so hard and fast on such wel-known gyms seems odd.
