Jairzinho Rozenstruik has discussed possible showdowns with Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Rozenstruik has been rising up the heavyweight ranks. While he suffered setbacks against Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane, Rozenstruik is barely out of the top five UFC heavyweight rankings. He sits at the number six spot.

Rozenstruik will be meeting number four-ranked Curtis Blaydes on Sept. 25. The heavyweight slugfest will be featured on the main card of UFC 266.

Speaking to our own James Lynch, Rozenstruik said he isn’t worried about the renowned grappling of Blaydes.

“I’m gonna go in there and work it. That’s it. I’m gonna see where Curtis wanna go. He knows I’m a striker. I know he’s gonna try to strike with me. I know he wanna wrestle me. And I’ll be prepared for all of that. I’m not scared to wrestle. And yeah, for me, it’s awesome. And it’s gonna be with the fans again, and the whole picture is there, and the hype is there. So I’m really excited. Can’t wait.”

When asked if a victory gets him into title contention, Rozenstruik said the following.

“Correct. I wanna win this fight (and) get back into title contention in line. And yeah, if I need one more fight for the title, it’s fair for me. And I really want one more fight for this year after this one, so I’m gonna work on that.”

A win at UFC 266 could lead to big things for “Bigi Boy.” Among them could be collisions with former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones and former UFC Heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic. Rozenstruick touched on those possible matchups.

“For me, I need to get my experience there. I need to fight more so I can push myself forward and see where I am. So if one of those guys are available, I’m there.”

Jones won’t be getting back inside the Octagon until 2022. As for Miocic, time will tell when he can return to action. One thing we do know is that the two won’t be short on potential opponents and Rozenstruik hopes to be on that list.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik is hoping he’ll get the chance to compete on the undercard of Francis Ngannou and Ciryl Gane’s eagerly anticipated heavyweight unification fight.

‘The Predator’ established himself as the best heavyweight in MMA earlier this year when he took out Stipe Miocic inside two rounds. Ngannou was supposed to defend his belt against Derrick Lewis at UFC 265 but was unable to make the August 7 date and as a result, an interim bout between ‘The Black Beast’ and Gane was booked. The Frenchman emerged victorious in dominant fashion to set up a unification clash with his former teammate, Ngannou.

Rozenstruik is working his way back into title contention after suffering defeats to Ngannou and Gane. ‘Bigi Boy’ is scheduled to fight Curtis Blaydes on September 25 and wants his next fight after that to be on the same card the UFC plan to crown an undisputed heavyweight champion.

“What I heard is that Francis had some contract problems,” Rozenstruik told LowKickMMA when asked if introducing an interim belt at heavyweight was the right call. “It’s not my problem. So, I’m just gonna say what I think. To make the heavyweight division move on, the interim title was necessary.

“The UFC do what is necessary to keep the division moving on and keep it alive. So, I think it’s fine,” Rozenstruik added. “Ciryl is the interim champion now, he’s going to fight Francis. If they fight December, I hope I’m on that card and winning that fight for myself right there for a title shot.

Rozenstruik expects his former opponents to put on a great show whenever they do fight but he really isn’t bothered who wins, he just wants a shot at whoever does.

“It’s going to be exciting, but I don’t give a damn who wins. I need a piece of both of them, so let’s go make it happen,” Rozenstruik said. “I hope I’ll be on that card winning that fight that I have on that card and being in line for the title shot.”

Jairzinho Rozenstruik doesn’t want to hear anybody dismissing Jake Paul as a fighter after his big win over Tyron Woodley this past weekend.

The YouTube star transitioned to professional boxing in 2020 and has looked impressive against low-level opponents. Paul held wins over a fellow internet celebrity, a retired NBA player, and Ben Askren before he stepped in with Woodley on Sunday evening.

Paul survived some tough moments to walk away with a deserved split decision win over ‘The Chosen One’ who has been demanding a rematch over the last few days.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Rozenstruik had nothing but good things to say about Paul who impressed him by beating one of the best UFC welterweights of all time.

“I think he (Tyron Woodley) got Jake Paul and he didn’t finish the job,” Rozenstruik said when asked to review Woodley’s boxing debut. “That’s the only thing I can say. And, for Jake Paul, he was really active in the earlier rounds. So yeah, he got that win. You can’t say too much about it. He has a big mouth, but he backed it up, he won the fight.”

The UFC heavyweight contender doesn’t have time for the people still dismissing Paul’s fighting ability.

“Of course. I think he (Jake Paul) is a fighter. He beat a five-time champion. Come on. Don’t say too much, the guy beat the guy,” Rozenstruik said. “The guy beat Woodley. Tyron Woodley is known for (being) one of the strongest punchers in the welterweight division. What do you want to say? He beat him.”

“He’s training and everybody can be a fighter if you train,” Rozenstruik added. “People say, ‘yeah, he’s a YouTuber, he’s this, he’s that.’ If he trained, he can be a YouTuber and a fighter and that’s what he does, so, I’m okay with it.”

Rozenstruik says he is considering following Woodley into the professional boxing world but only once he’s achieved his goal of becoming a UFC champion.

“I did kickboxing for so many years, now I’m in the MMA game and I think boxing is the only thing that I didn’t do. So maybe later,” Rozenstruik said. “I want to get the UFC gold and then we’re going to see from there. That’s the only thing that’s in front of me right now and we’re going to see the future. I’m only 33 years old and you know, it’s bright, it’s there and I’m happy that I’m in the position to be on this big promotion in life right now.”

Do you agree with Jairzinho Rozenstruik? Should Jake Paul be getting more credit for his win over Tyron Woodley?

Jairzinho Rozenstruik is dead set on making it two wins in a row when he squares off against Curtis Blaydes on September 25.

‘Bigi Boy’ returned to the win column last time out with an impressive first-round TKO of Augusto Sakai.

Prior to that, the 33-year-old disappointingly slumped to an uneventful decision defeat against Ciryl Gane.

Blaydes is coming off a disappointing defeat of his own. ‘Razor’ started well in his last fight but was caught clean and knocked out by Derrick Lewis back in February.

In a recent interview with LowKickMMA, Rozenstruik revealed he watches every UFC heavyweight fight. The former kickboxer appears to be drawing confidence from his viewings of Blaydes’ most recent loss.

“I don’t care who wins but I take a lot of things from that fight,” Rozenstruik said. “I watch all the heavyweight fights, it doesn’t matter if the guys are ranked or not. I’m watching all the heavyweight fights and I take a lot of things from that fight. I try to see where the mistakes are made and how other fighters, we get on the mistakes.

“Curtis ended on the bad side of the fight,” Rozenstruik added. “So, you can see he’s not perfect and as the last fight with Ciryl Gane and Derrick (Lewis), it shows the same thing.

The UFC title contender understands that at heavyweight all it takes is one punch for your fight and night to come to a devastating end.

“So, it is MMA. It is the heavyweight division. If you got punched in the face, the fight can be over,” Rozenstruik concluded. “So, I’m preparing myself to be faster, to be first, and to be victorious the September 25th.”

Heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes has a big task in front of him for his next outing, but he’s feeling as confident as ever heading into the matchup.

Blaydes was recently paired up against Surinamese knockout artist Jairzinho Rozenstruik at UFC 266 in September. The fight will give him an opportunity to bounce back after a devastating knockout loss to Derrick Lewis halted his 4-fight winning streak in February.

Speaking to James Lynch of LowKick MMA, Blaydes said the match up was one he and his team have been anticipating for a while.

“Yeah. I knew it would be the winner of that fight,” Blaydes said of Rozenstruik’s victory over Augusto Sakai. “I was hoping it would be Jairzinho, just because he’s a bigger name, he’s higher ranked. It wasn’t like a shock. We expected it, and we’ve been planning for months and months.”

Knowing that the winner of that fight would most likely be next, Blaydes obviously kept a close eye on it. However, he wasn’t exactly blown away by Rozenstruik’s performance, even with the first round stoppage.

“I wasn’t overly impressed with the technique,” Blaydes said. “Obviously the power is impressive, but the technique is not… like watching him, I watched him when he fought Gane and you could just tell the difference in the speed and fluidity and the technique. Jairzinho is more of your old school, classic plodder. You go, I go, you go, I go. I don’t find him that explosive, he doesn’t have crazy attacks. It’s pretty basic. But it works for him, he sticks with what he knows. He doesn’t bring a lot of diversity which does make it a little easier to gameplan, but you always have to be aware of the power.”

Another reason Blaydes is coming into this fight with so much confidence is because he has the advice of his training partner Alistair Overeem, who fought against Rozenstruik in December 2019. Though he came out on the wrong end of that fight, Overeem was firmly in control throughout until being caught by a Hail Mary punch in the dying seconds. It’s a fight that Blaydes considers a win for his training partner despite the official outcome, which is why he’s glad to be getting advice from ‘The Demolition Man’.

“In my mind, Alistair won that fight,” said Blaydes. “Just like in my mind Volkov beat Derrick Lewis. I know he did lose in highlight fashion, but up until the loss he was owning that fight, just like with Alistair. So yeah, I’ve spoken to Alistair about it. We’ve talked a little bit about it, what things he thinks I can take advantage of and I agree with him on a lot of those. It definitely helps to have a guy that you know, that you already train with, that’s already fought the guy you’re about to fight.”

Blaydes has brought in a number of fighters for this training camp, hoping t give himself so new looks at different styles. Since he was unable to participate in full contact training for an extended time thanks to the Lewis knockout, he’s been able to work on other parts of his game that he felt were lacking that have now became strong points.

“We have a guy that’s a judoka, a black belt in judo who’s a light heavyweight,” Blaydes said. “It’s been cool having him there, just asking him about things he likes and certain positions in the clinch.”

“I wasn’t able to have contact training from the day of the knockout all the way up to the end of May, so I focused heavily on Jiu jitsu. I got in months of 12 hours a week with just Jiu jitsu privates with this black belt that I’ve been working with. He’s a big guy, and it’s really hard to find a big guy. He has the availability, so we put in a lot of hours. I feel very confident in my grappling game, in my submissions. I’ve added a few, and my defense has gotten better. I definitely smell a submission in the near future.”

All the extra work has him convinced fans will see a vintage Curtis Blaydes performance come September. He believes he hold a definite advantage wherever the fight goes, but is hoping the night will end with a career first.

“I think it plays out almost like the Derrick Lewis fight, except without me getting hit with the uppercut,” Blaydes said. “I think I’m faster than him, I’m longer than him. I’m the better fighter overall. I got the better striking; I think I’m more aggressive. Ill be able to put him on the cage, and pressure him and then he’ll make a mistake and I’ll be able either put him away on the feet or get to his hips and get that first career submission win.”

As for what a victory means for Blaydes, that’s not something he’s concerning himself with at the moment. For now, he just wants to get back to his winning ways and get the sour taste that’s been lingering since February out of his mouth.

“Regardless of whatever implications, I want to win just for me. I want to get the taste of that L out of my mouth, because it does taste awful. I do want to get rid of that. I’m looking forward to putting on a show. My hands have been growing, my Jiu jitsu has been growing, I’ve always got the wrestling… I’m excited.”
