Legendary heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko may be done in the world of mixed martial arts, but that won’t stop the Russian juggernaut from stepping inside the squared circle someday.

After accumulating 40 wins over the course of his 23-year career in MMA, Fedor Emelianenko called it a career following his first-round knockout of Ryan Bader at Bellator 290 in February. Since then, ‘The Last Emperor’ has stayed in shape, and while a return to MMA is off the table, Emelianenko is undeniably intrigued by the idea of trying out his heavy hands inside the boxing ring.

“MMA is done, 100 percent,” Emelianenko told Ariel Helwani during an appearance on The MMA Hour. “I’m not going back to MMA. I want to try myself in boxing. I think that’s going to be interesting. After the last fight with Bader, I took a break. I started lifting weights a little bit, got some muscles back so my injuries are going away, so my shoulder feels better a little bit, and I started boxing, so I feel pretty good and pretty confident in boxing.”

Though it’s far too early to announce an opponent for his proposed boxing debut, Fedor admittedly loves the idea of strapping on the eight-ounce gloves for a clash with heavyweight icon ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson.

“We watched the fight on TV of Roy Jones Jr. vs. Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson would be an interesting fight,” Emelianenko said. “He has a big name, he’s a legend. … It would be interesting because you can see a lot of his videos on YouTube and all over the place, he’s still in good shape. He still works pads, he still has that same power” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Tyson is one of the most recognized figures in the sport, holding the undisputed heavyweight title for nearly three years between 1987 and 1990. Tyson kicked off his career with 19-straight victories via knockout, 12 coming in the very first round.

“That would be awesome,” Emelianenko said when asked about the idea of fighting Tyson. “If it would be possible I definitely would do it. I will be ready. I always train. There was a camp right now in Russia. I was there. I’m always ready. I heard that Mike Tyson is going to help Francis Ngannou to prepare for this fight, so he’s probably in good shape too.”

With more than 20 years of experience boxing, Fedor Emelianenko believes he can hold his own inside the squared circle, but ‘The Last Emperor’ is far from delusional about his own skills, particularly when matched up with someone as experienced and dangerous as Mike Tyson.

“Right now I’m 47, but I started boxing when I was 23,” Emelianenko said. “Over half of my life I’ve done boxing. Everybody knows that I’m mostly a wrestler, sambo, judo. I was on the national sambo and judo teams, but you can see in my fights that I’m pretty good at boxing as well. Of course, I’m not as good as Mike Tyson, but it would be interesting.”

Fedor Discusses the Possibility of Fighting Jake Paul

Fedor Emelianenko also addressed the possibility of stepping into the ring with social media star Jake Paul. The Problem Child’ moved to 7-1 in his career, securing a unanimous decision against ex-UFC star Nate Diaz over the weekend. Paul has carved out a pro boxing career on the back of past-their-prime MMA fighters, such as Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Anderson Silva.

Though ‘The Last Emperor’ fits the bill in that respect, Jake Paul is known to target fighters that give him a size advantage inside the squared circle, something he would not get by facing Fedor.

“He grows a lot as a fighter,” Emelianenko said of Paul. “If you look into him at the beginning of his boxing career, he wasn’t doing as good, but right now he’s definitely growing and he’s getting better and better. He’s had some knockdowns, knockouts, not with boxers but with the MMA stars.

“The only thing is, the way he chooses his opponents, they’re a little bit smaller, more comfortable for him, for his style of boxing, I guess. They’re all a bit smaller than him. … I didn’t think about [fighting Jake Paul] but I doubt he would want to do it.”

Jake Paul denies criticizm after performance over Nate Diaz I embarrassed a UFC legend

Professional boxer and outspoken social media influencer, Jake Paul has hit out at critics of his most recent win over former UFC lightweight title challenger, Nate Diaz last weekend in Dallas, Texas – claiming he clearly “embarrassed a legend” in his decision victory.

Paul, who improved to 7-1 as a professional with his comprehensive unanimous decision win in ‘The Lone Star State’, managed to land a decision win over veteran former UFC welterweight challenger, Diaz over the course of 10 rounds.

Jake Paul claims he “embarrassed” Nate Diaz in their boxing clash

And in the immediate aftermath of the bout, Paul, who was forced the distance despite almost finishing Diaz standing in the opening round – and landing a significant knockdown in the fourth frame, claimed that nevertheless, he still “embarrassed” the Californian.

“For sure, I walked the dog like I said I was going to do,” Jake Paul said on the Impaulsive podcast. “Put him (Nate Diaz) on a leash, bent him over, embarrassed him, knockout him out of the ring. It’s fun and games and stuff and after he’s acting all nonchalant and people are like, ‘Oh, he didn’t care to be in there, he was just there for the check.’ Shut the f*ck up you stupid people. Of course he wants to win a fight. Of course he goes to win every single fight.”

“He’s inthere talking sh*t the day before saying I can’t fight and I bent him over on the ground, embarrassed him, put him on the canvas and now he’s still talking sh*t saying all of these things acting like he doesn’t care because of course that’s how he’s going to play it. He’s going to act like he doesn’t care, but I really embarrassed him. I embarrassed a legend.”

Nate Diaz opens as massive favorite to beat Jake Paul in MMA rematch

Despite suffering a rather one-sided loss to professional boxer, Jake Paul in his squared circle debut last weekend, former UFC lightweight title challenger and welterweight contender, Nate Diaz has opened as a colossal betting favorite to defeat the Ohio native in a potential rematch under the unified mixed martial arts ruleset.

Diaz, a one-time lightweight title challenger, made his professional boxing debut over the course of last weekend in Dallas, Texas, suffering a unanimous decision (98-91, 97-92, 97-92) loss to outspoken YouTuber and social media influencer, Paul over the course of 10 rounds in ‘The Lone Star State’.

For Paul, the victory came as the youngster’s seventh professional, also returning him to the winner’s enclosure after a first career defeat earlier this year, coming in the form of a split decision loss to Tommy Fury – half-brother of current WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury in February in Saudi Arabia.

Making his return to combat sports at the pay-per-view event in the American Airlines Center, prior to his loss against Paul, Diaz had most recently headlined UFC 279 back in September of last year, defeating former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson with a fourth round guillotine choke submission win.

And off the back of his decision loss to Paul, Diaz, a life-long mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, is available as a whopping -1,200 betting favorite to defeat the +650 betting underdog, Paul – if they make good on a potential rematch in mixed martial arts competition.

While a rematch between Diaz and Paul has yet to be made official in the early goings following their boxing clash, best fights to bet on in UFC betting sites are already offering punters and bettors odds on straight, outright betting on a potential rematch in mixed martial arts, as well as potential prop bets and wagers.

Following their boxing clash in Texas, Paul made quite the interesting proposition to Stockton native Diaz; in the form of a professional mixed martial arts rematch under the PFL (Professional Fighters League) banner – with a fight purse worth a cool $10,000,000 on offer for Diaz – which was initially welcomed by The Ultimate Fighter 5 winner, who insisted a “real fight” would end much differently.

“I’m not trying to f*cking talk sh*t,” Nate Diaz said at his post-fight press conference. “He’s boxing high-level MMA guys and he’s sparring hard and working with good people, and then he starts talking sh*t to me throughout the camp. It comes with the territory and all is fair, love and war, I’m always about that. Say whatever you want, that’s fine. But then when you start making things personal, trying to make things personal, saying sh*t he shouldn’t be saying. It hurts people’s feelings when I say this ain’t a real fight.”

“Because if it’s a real fight – remember [the] Logan Paul (lookalike) in New Orleans?” Nate Diaz asked. “No problem. This is not a real fight to be talking to me like that. This is a boxing competition, so that’s what I meant by he can’t really fight. It’s not overly disrespectful, If yu can’t really fight, don’t be talking sh*t.”

Ex-UFC star Gilbert Melendez confident Nate Diaz ‘destroys’ Jake Paul in MMA: ‘I’d love to see it’

Jake Paul

Jake Paul may have gotten the best of Nate Diaz inside the squared circle, but things might not go quite as well should he decide to step into a cage with the ‘Stockton Samurai’ next year.

‘The Problem Child’ scored his seventh career win over the weekend, earning a unanimous decision victory following an entertaining 10-round scrap. Immediately following the match, Jake Paul doubled down on his MMA challenge to Nate Diaz, offering the TUF alumnus $10 million to meet him inside the PFL Smart Cage.

According to Nate Diaz’s longtime teammate Gilbert Melendez, that offer could come back to bite the social media superstar.

“Nate destroys this guy in MMA,” Melendez said of the potential matchup on an episode of The Fighter vs. The Writer. “I’d love to see it. I’d love to see it in boxing again, too. Run it back in boxing and then in MMA” (h/t MMA Fighting).

Nate Diaz Proved He is the ‘Better Fighter’ Despite Taking an L Against ‘The Problem Child’

Sitting ringside at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Melendez believes the kid from 209 showed the world he is the better fighter, but the power and durability of ‘The Problem Child’ ultimately proved to be too much for Nate Diaz to overcome.

“To me, [Nate] was clearly a better fighter, boxer, the power went to the young man and the durability went to Jake Paul for being young but towards the end, I felt the momentum [shift] again,” Melendez explained. “The no quit in Nate coming around. That 9th and 10th rounds where Jake Paul’s getting tired, he’s hugging, he’s losing steam, he can’t put him away. Obviously, I think the size made a difference. A smaller man would have withered sooner.

“I thought Nate did a great job. Just two significant moments happened for Jake Paul that made Nate have to come back a little bit and I believe he was on his way to coming back both those times in that fifth round before he got clipped and then in that 10th round when Jake Paul was holding on and just kind of letting time expire.”

Gilbert Melendez Believes Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz in MMA Will Be a One-Sided Affair

While Jake Paul undoubtedly held an advantage in the sweet science, things could be drastically different under MMA rules. Even if Nate Diaz gives up a considerable size advantage, his world-class grappling would undoubtedly be too much for ‘The Problem Child’ to overcome.

“You may land a good jab or a good shot but we can clinch” Melendez said. “We can clinch and there’s no referee there to break you up. What’s going to happen then when we get in that grappling zone? It’s just a different sport. You could train, you could become a blue belt [in Brazilian jiu-jitsu] but it takes so much time to become a black belt.

“The grappling, the wrestling is very complex to learn compared to the boxing. I’m not saying it’s easy to succeed but when I have people sign up at my gym and they’re like ‘what should I do first?’ You’ll probably succeed at boxing first. Meaning it’s just your hands, one-two, one-two, some punches. There’s a lot to it [with MMA] — adding kicks, jiu-jitsu, wrestling. It takes so much time to learn that and then to put it together in MMA.”

Aside from the introduction of grappling, Melendez believes that the move from eight-ounce gloves to four-ounce ones will also present Jake Paul with an entirely different perspective once things are all said and done in his mixed martial arts debut.

“Not only in the grappling department but striking with MMA gloves is a different animal,” Melendez said. “It’s a different animal. The punches are different. The way they get in. The angles you can use. The dirty boxing you can use. It’s just a different animal.

“It’s just a lifetime of experience. Nate’s one of those guys, he’s a mixed martial artist. He knows it all and it’s real type of fighting. Just snagging that choke and seeing how he responded, he hit a single leg. It’s a different animal. That’s what mixed martial arts is. This is as pure as fighting comes that can be sanctioned.”

It is possible that the two combat sports icons could opt to run it back inside the squared circle ahead of, or in lieu of a rematch in mixed martial arts. But whether it happens in the ring or the cage, Gilbert Melendez is 100% on board for it.

“It’s a different sport,” Melendez said. “I can’t wait to see it. I really do hope they have a rematch, whether it’s boxing or MMA.”

Jake Paul claims Nate Diaz was using ‘racial slurs’ during boxing bout: ‘He was saying crazy sh*t’

Nate Diaz’s trash-talking during his pro boxing debut got a little too spicy according to his opponent, Jake Paul.

On Saturday night, the ‘Stockton Samurai’ went toe-to-toe with Paul in a 10-round bout that was quite entertaining, albeit a little one-sided. After everything was said and done, Paul earned his seventh career win in the squared circle, scoring a unanimous decision victory over the ex-UFC star.

Looking back on the fight via his YouTube channel, Jake Paul claimed that Nate Diaz’s patented trash-talk included some racial slurs that even ‘The Problem Child’ refused to repeat.

“He was saying crazy sh*t in the clinch that I can’t repeat, like racial slurs, calling me racial slurs and just like come up like the whole time and I would hit him and he would be like ‘Yeah motherf*cker!’ And I’d be like ‘Shut up, what’d you say?’ And we were just talking back and forth the whole fight having fun,” Paul revealed (h/t MMA News).

Jake Paul also added that once their battle was in the books, it was nothing, but respect between the two combat sports icons.

“He was just like, ‘Man, respect! Like you’re a warrior,” Paul added. “I love what you’re doing for the fight game.’”

With their boxing bout now officially in the books, Jake Paul will turn his attention toward a debut in the world of mixed martial arts. If things go his way, Paul will make his premiere in the PFL Smart Cage in early 2024. No official opponent has been revealed, but it’s quite clear that ‘The Problem Child’ desperately wants it to be Nate Diaz.

Paul offered the TUF alumnus a massive $10 million payday to take the fight, an offer Diaz seemingly accepted on Saturday night in a post-fight interview. Whether or not he signs on the dotted line remains to be seen, but after their entertaining affair in the Lone Star State, fans will be clamoring for a rematch inside the Smart Cage.

Nate Diaz reveals he suffered arm injury ahead of boxing match with Jake Paul no excuses

Former UFC welterweight contender, Nate Diaz has revealed that ahead of his professional boxing debut over the course of the weekend against Jake Paul, he suffered an arm injury – in an attempt to “stay big” ahead of the middleweight pairing.

Diaz, a former lightweight title challenger under the UFC banner to boot, made his professional boxing debut in Dallas, Texas, over the course of the weekend against Ohio puncher and social media influencer, Paul, suffering a comprehensive unanimous decision loss.

Making his first professional ring walk, Stockton native, Diaz was almost finished in the opening round against Paul, and was ultimately dropped in the fourth round, suffering an official knockdown with the former countering with a check left hook.

And despite suffering a unanimous decision loss to the polarizing and outspoken, Paul, Diaz was offered a rematch – strictly under the PFL (Professional Fighters League) banner and under the unified ruleset of mixed martial arts, to the tune of $10,000,000.

Nate Diaz is also alleged to have suffered a knee injury ahead of his boxing debut

Noting his interest in a potential boxing rematch and subsequent mixed martial arts fight with Paul in the future off the back of his judging loss, Stockton veteran, Diaz revealed he suffered an arm injury ahead of their Saturday showdown in Texas.

“I’m not trying to make excuses, but about a month back I was trying to stay big and I hurt my arm a little bit,” Nate Diaz told assembled media during his post-fight press conference. “It was wearing and tearing on my right arm if I was jabbing or doing stuff. … I think I should’ve kept on the outside and do more stuff. It’s all good. There’s no way I’m not going to show up for a fight for something like that, too. You’ve got to go regardless. No matter what.”

“I know what I was coming for,” Nate Diaz explained. “I was coming for a fight with a big, strong, motivated guy trying to take over the world. Nothing surprised me in this sh*t. … I didn’t think I won. He got the knockdown and stuff, so I figured I won a good amount of rounds.”
