Former three-division champion and Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year James Toney stepped away from MMA after a single bout against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture in 2010, but he is is still interested in taking on any professional prizefighters if the money is right.

Recently, former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has been outspoken on his position of leaving the UFC and going to fight somewhere else. He also expressed interest in stepping into the boxing ring where he could possibly make more money.

In this interview by Elie Seckbach, Toney let’s Rampage know he doesn’t have to look much farther than his gym if he wants to get some quality training.

“Hey Rampage, that’s what you get for being the slave to the white man,” said Toney, who holds a 73-7-3 record in the boxing ring and 0-1 record in the Octagon. “Don’t be scared. Step up, and speak for yourself. That’s why they pay the man a half-million dollars, he is sick of getting paid for the UFC. I’m the highest paid fighter ever.”

“You give opinions, I make millions,” he continued. “If you want to fight me, come on out to the gym, I’ll give you a job first. You can be a sparring partner. I’ll pay you 50 bucks to give me sparring. I think he would get knocked out.”

Toney most recently was seen losing to interim WBA cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev, but rumors of an MMA bout with Ken Shamrock also came up late in 2011.

“The Most Dangerous Girl in the World, they can’t afford me ’cause they have no money,” Toney said. “He would get knocked out. He’s scared.”

Having the ultimate or near-enough ripped physique in MMA should at best be a prerequisite for all athletes contesting in the ever-growing sport of diversified combative skills.

Unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case, as some fighters either let themselves go, or have a “what you see is what you get” attitude to the game. To the hardcore contingent, it isn’t that big a deal, but to the casual fans who tune in for a fleeting glimpse of the new breed of fighter, it could mean changing the channel.

That said, physique-wise, it’s safe to say that none of the fighters on this list are ringing endorsements of what a true professional mixed martial artist should look like.

Let’s take a look.

Kimbo Slice and the Biggest Flameouts in MMA History

Every now and again a special talent comes along in MMA. Sometimes it’s a NCAA National Champion Wrestler. Sometimes it’s a journeyman finally getting his chance to shine after years of toiling in obscurity. Sometimes he comes from our own backyard. Sometimes he comes from halfway around the globe. Sometimes he displays remarkable heart and fortitude. Sometimes he exhibits unparalleled skill and ability.

Regardless of nationality, skill set or story, some fighters capture our attention and demand our respect and admiration. These are the fighters that carve out names for themselves among the pantheon of combat sports’ greatest warriors.

And then there are those fighters that come along and convince the world that they are destined for such greatness, only to crash and burn in spectacular fashion.

This article is dedicated to the latter group—those who began their MMA career with exceptional hype and fanfare, those who shocked the world once, but could never reach that level again, and those who made us scratch our heads and wonder why we ever accepted them as legitimate mixed martial artists in the first place.

They shall be honored here.

Video: Gray Maynard’s Grip Strength is Stronger Than an NFL Lineman’s and His Punch is Harder Than James Toney’s

Sure, it’s not exactly proof that he’s a better athlete than a pro football player or that his pugilistic skills are better than James Toney’s, but you have to admit Gray’s numbers are at least a bit impressive.

The Sports Science lab measured the grip strength and the punching power of “The Bully” and it seems that doing rope climbs and hitting the heavy bag are paying off in dividends for Maynard.

His grip strength was measured at 195 lbs — nearly 50 lbs more than some NFL linemen tested on the show who are nearly twice his size. His punching power was clocked at 1400 lbs of force — 100 lbs more than “Lights Out” who outweighs Maynard by at least 60-70 lbs.

The bottom line: Maynard is a strong dude. Frankie Edgar better hope he doesn’t grab ahold of his arm or throat on Saturday night because he might crush them both. And if he manages to connect with a clean shot, “The Answer” might wake up to a question like, “Frankie, what day is it?”

Chael Sonnen was in his element, again, when he was recently interviewed by Bruce Buffer for the Sherdog Radio Network’s show, “IT’S TIME!!!”

During the interview, he had choice words to say about his MMA colleagues Anderson Silva (griping for the nth time), Tito Ortiz (uncharacteristically nice on this one) and Ken Shamrock (his new trash-talk target).

Here are his words on each fighter (courtesy of Jason Moles of Cage Potato), and my humble thoughts.
