The racially-charged altercation between Jason “Mayhem” Miller and Uriah Hall was nothing more than a misguided publicity stunt, according to Miller.

With his personal life already spiraling out of control, Miller admitted that he engaged Hall outside of a local MMA event in Commerce, California fully knowing there would be cameras around.

I was just giving them some publicity, Miller told MMAInterviews.TV. I knew people were like, cameras out and stuff. Look, [Hall] is my brother, I love him. He’s a good man. He’ll be the damn champion, if he just allows himself to become the champion, he’ll be the champion. I mean he’s got to get through a damn sea of tough dudes, but I wish him the best.

People really hurt my feelings calling me a racist. That was like the worst. I was like, ‘What? Get out of here.’ I’m more black than I am racist.

The original premise of the incident, according to MMA journalist Spencer Lazara’s YouTube footage, was that Hall intervened during a heated dispute involving Miller and a woman attending the event.

The woman was believed to be Miller’s ex-girlfriend, who the former MMA star had allegedly assaulted in the past.

After watching the situation escalate from afar, Hall made the decision to step in and try to break things up. The Good Samaritan act would ultimately come back to bite Hall, who immediately became the recipient of Miller’s rage.

Without warning, Miller began throwing up inappropriate hand gestures and yelling racial slurs, prompting Hall to throw a punch at him. The brief scuffle was quickly broken up by security, and both men were escorted from the event.

Thankfully, Miller appears to finally have his life back on track. Since the incident, he has issued both a private and public apology to Hall, who quickly forgave him. Even in the interview above, Miller seems more calm and subdued than normal.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope that the prolonged mayhem has finally ended in this once beloved fighter’s life.

Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller Re-Emerges in Mostly-Coherent Interview About Unretirement, Forgiveness, And the Uriah Hall Incident

(Props: MMAInterviews.tv)

As Jason “Mayhem” Miller puts it in the above video interview, “2013? Pretty unlucky number for me.” Indeed, the semi-retired MMA fighter and former media personality spent the past calendar year getting arrested, getting arrested, getting arrested, and dropping N-bombs during a public scuffle with Uriah Hall. Now, a humbled (but still pretty kooky) version of Mayhem is training full time with Rafael Cordeiro at Kings MMA, looking for a return to competition, and he has a few things to say about the controversies that have surrounded him recently. Some notable quotes…

On leaving MMA and coming back: “I took some time, I retired, I totally got away from it, and realized the love and the passion that I have for the sport is just undeniable. I realized I love it so much. And the way I am, I got real passionate and jumped right back in. I’ve been here training at Kings for about a year now, and I feel like a new fighter. I’m ready to get on out there. I’m entertaining some offers from some different leagues that are around the globe, and I’m just trying to find my home.”

On who he’d like to fight next [WARNING, MAYHEM AHEAD]: “I don’t know man, I would like to fight Stephen Hawking. I’d like to punch him out of his wheelchair, maybe get him in an armbar. He can’t defend. No one can defend. [*pauses, switches to Stephen Hawking robot-voice*] Ow. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Physics!

On personal growth: “I change all the time, man. I change every day. And recently, I’ve changed the most. Out of necessity. I realized that I wasn’t surrounding myself with the right people. I wasn’t really in the right state of mind to really be successful in life, let alone mixed martial arts. And now I have a second chance. I forgive everybody and I hope they forgive me, because what’s the point in holding a grudge?…It’s 2014, all that stuff’s behind me, it’s all in the past. If you don’t have my number, twitter me. I’ll apologize, or if you want to apologize, it doesn’t matter, I forgive you anyway.”

On his confrontation with Uriah Hall: “I was just giving him some publicity. I knew people [had their] cameras out and stuff. He’s my brother. I love him. He’s a good man. Mayhem Miller Issues Public Apology to Uriah Hall for Racist Remarks

Jason “Mayhem” Miller has taken the initiative in issuing both a private and public apology to Uriah Hall for their well-publicized confrontation a few weeks ago.

In a post on Twitter, Miller states that he has already spoken to Hall privately to apologize for his actions at a local MMA event in Commerce, Calif. His hope was to take the apology a bit further and address the situation publicly.

Miller’s tweet received an immediate response from Hall, who quickly forgave him for his actions and even tweeted some words of encouragement.

The entire incident occurred during the “BAMMA USA: Badbeat 11” event, which took place in October.

According to the description in a YouTube video (NSFW) posted by MMAInterviews’ Spencer Lazara, Miller was being aggressive towards a woman presumed to be his ex-girlfriend at the event. She appeared to be an emotional wreck as Mayhem continued to yell at her.

Hall, who was also present at the event, looked in on the situation, and Miller immediately began acting aggressive towards him.

As the two MMA stars squared off, Miller suddenly began throwing up inappropriate hand gestures and spouting out several racial slurs, which eventually provoked Hall into throwing a punch.

The brief scuffle was quickly broken up, and security escorted both men from the event.

In the past year, the downward spiral of Miller’s life has played out in front of the world like some odd reality TV drama. Miller certainly has a long way to go to repair some of the bridges he’s burned recently, but this sincere gesture towards Hall and owning up to past mistakes does provide some hope.

It’s been a really long time since anything even remotely positive has come out of a Miller story, but for the first time in a long time, the UFC castoff seems to finally be on the right track.

Dana White on Hall Punching Mayhem: ‘There Are Cases Where I Don’t Give a Sh*t’

Dana White doesn’t approve of fighters being involved in physical altercations outside of the Octagon, but he is willing to turn a blind eye on some occasions, especially in the case of Uriah Hall and Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

The two MMA fighters were recently involved in an altercation at a local MMA event in Commerce, California.

Spencer Lazara of MMA Interviews.tv captured most of the incident on camera and posted it on the site’s YouTube page, along with a short summary of everything that allegedly went down.

In the video, Mayhem can clearly be seen throwing up inappropriate jesters and yelling racial slurs at Hall, who was only trying to help diffuse a heated situation between Mayhem and his ex-girlfriend.

After being subjected to Mayhem’s racist taunts, Hall decided he had heard enough and reacted by throwing a punch at the former UFC fighter.

Both men were immediately escorted from the premises.

Many expected the UFC to hand down some form of discipline to Hall for his part in the minor street scrap. Instead, UFC President White posted on Twitter (NSFW) that no form of punishment would befall Hall. Furthermore, Hall might even get a bonus.

On Tuesday, Bleacher Report’s Jeremy Botter sat in on a media conference call, where White addressed reporters on multiple questions regarding the UFC. When asked to elaborate on his handling of the Hall situation, White claimed that every situation is different, and in this incident, he believed Mayhem got exactly what he deserved:

We don’t ever want our fighters fighting outside of the Octagon, but guess what? There’s gonna be situations where men need to handle their business and that’s one of those cases. First of all, Mayhem Miller, how this guy is still walking the f***ing streets of America is beyond me, number one. Number two, he deserved what he got from Uriah Hall, and it’s no different from the situation with Roger Huerta, right? Roger Huerta was in a situation where a guy punched a girl in the face and knocked her out, knocked her unconscious. Then Roger Huerta knocked him out. There’s gonna be cases where I don’t give a sh*t.

You can listen to the entire conference call at MMAFighting.com.

Make no mistake about it: Mayhem is nothing more than a remnant of the UFC’s past. During an interview with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani, White claimed that Mayhem was “not a UFC fighter.”

The only thing Mayhem has to show for two stints in the UFC is a 0-3 record. He was dropped from the promotion in May 2012 after incurring back-to-back losses to Michael Bisping and CB Dollaway.

In an interview with MMAWeekly.com, Hall claimed that Mayhem somehow managed to get a hold of his phone number and continued his racially charged taunts through text messages:

“’I don’t know how he got my number. I asked and his response was, ‘I am Mayhem Miller, I know everything.’ Hall said. ‘I feel sorry for him. I hope he gets the help that he needs before it gets worse.’”

Sadly, Mayhem hasn’t even taken the initiative to apologize for his actions.

The former beloved star has allowed himself to wallow in controversy and become the one thing he never wanted to be: the bad guy.

Dana White Claims He’s Giving Uriah Hall a Bonus for Punching Mayhem Miller

Uriah Hall won’t be receiving any disciplinary action from the UFC for throwing a punch at Jason “Mayhem” Miller.

Quite the contrary, UFC President Dana White posted on Twitter (NSFW) that he plans on giving Hall a bonus for taking a swing at Mayhem during a nasty altercation that took place over the weekend.

Controversy seems to follow Mayhem wherever he goes, and he was right on schedule during “BAMMA USA: Bad Beat 11,” a local event held in Commerce, California. According to a tweet from MMA reporter Erik Fontanez, Hall threw a punch after Mayhem used a racial slur.

After a brief scuffle, both men were quickly separated by security and escorted from the event.

It didn’t take long to confirm the story once the news went viral. Mayhem, who has shown no remorse for his behavior, immediately sent out a tweet after the incident using the same racial slur he was accused of using during the scuffle.

On Monday, MMAinterviews’ Spencer Lazara uploaded a video on YouTube of the actual altercation along with a backstory of how the entire situation unfolded:

The scene begins with Jason “Mayhem” Miller being aggressive to a woman who is apparently his ex girlfriend who he has allegedly assaulted in the recent past. She was visibly emotional and upset and he continued to yell at her. Uriah Hall poked his head in the situation and instantly Miller turned his aggression to him. He began with continuous rants of, “N**** please.” Then the video starts and you see the rest.

It’s hard to believe that Mayhem was once considered one of MMA’s most beloved stars. His notoriety had climbed to new heights after being cast as the host of MTV’s hit reality series Bully Beatdown, which he balanced alongside his MMA career.

After minor stints in Strikeforce and DREAM, Mayhem was finally offered his second shot in the UFC as a head coach on The Ultimate Fighter 14. His resurgence as a relevant MMA star was short-lived. After suffering back-to-back losses, he was released from the promotion in May 2012.

Mayhem has really lived up to his nickname in the past year. He has been arrested several times for alleged charges of nude vandalism and domestic abuse.

The downward spiral of Mayhem’s life and career has played out in front of fans like a perpetual soap opera with each controversial act more shocking than the next. During an interview with MMAFighting’s Ariel Helwani, White admitted that he has never been a fan of Mayhem:

I don’t think you can compare him to any other fighter. He’s always been…let’s just say, not normal. …He’s not a UFC fighter. This guy fought in the UFC three times and never won one fight. I wouldn’t compare him to anybody else in the sport because I never met anyone like Mayhem Miller. I’m not a big fan, I never have been a fan, and I’m not going to be a fan anytime soon.

While a paycheck won’t cure the sting of Mayhem’s comments, White’s kind gesture can hopefully help Hall put the entire incident in the past and focus on getting his own career back on track.

Hall’s upcoming UFC 168 bout against Chris Leben could be his last chance to prove he deserves a spot on the UFC roster.

The well-known phrase “jump the shark” is often used to describe someone or something that has lost its initial appeal—the phrase itself has arguably jumped the shark at this point.

As news filtered in about Tito Ortiz’s fractured neck late last week, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the expression.

MMA is still in its infancy, but it has grown old enough to see many of its former stars cling desperately to whatever relevancy remains.

This list laments those faded stars who continue to chase the spotlight despite the mixture of scorn and apathy that greets their every move.

As always, feel free to include your own suggestions in the comments.
