MMA fighters Leon Edwards, Darren Till, and Jimi Manuwa have joined forces to help reduce knife crime in Britain.

Edwards spoke out earlier this week after a flurry of stabbings took place in his hometown of Birmingham, England. Speaking on the Eurobash podcast, he said he was heartbroken to see so many young lives being lost to senseless violence

“It’s getting crazy, that kid that got stabbed in that video I posted yesterday, it was actually one of my best friend’s cousins that got stabbed. I only found out about it today; I didn’t even know about it until this morning that it’s one of my best pal’s cousins, so I was like, ‘Oh f*ck.’

“Yesterday alone there were three or four stabbings in Birmingham, which is f*ckin’ madness in a lockdown.

“I feel like I’m in the perfect position,” he explained. “I’ve been there and done that, and I can try my best to show them another way. It is hard, though. There’s not really an answer that I can give to fix it all. But to see little kids getting stabbed to death in broad daylight, in a lockdown, it’s heartbreaking to see it.

Retired light heavyweight Manuwa revealed yesterday he was linking up with fellow MMA fighters to try to help the bleak situation, he wrote on Twitter.

“I’m speaking with fighters and we are coming together and need to speak to the government about helping the youths in all our cities cross the uk to help reduce the killings and lives going to waste in prison.”

Today Edwards, Manuwa and Till all simultaneously posted a social media message announcing they would be working together to help reduced knife crime. Specific details about their plans aren’t yet known and will be revealed in due course.

Do you think Leon Edwards, Darren Till and Jimi Manuwa will be able to help prevent knife crime in the UK?

Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold doesn’t see any incentive in fighting Jimi Manuwa.

Rockhold hasn’t competed since getting knocked out by Jan Blachowicz at UFC 239 in July last year. However, he recently revealed that he may be getting the itch to compete again.

This led to a callout from retired UFC light heavyweight contender Jimi Manuwa who is seemingly planning to come out of retirement.

But for Rockhold, it’s simply not an exciting fight.

“I didn’t see it [Manuwa’s callout], and what does Jimi Manuwa do for me?” Rockhold told Submission Radio. “What has Jimi Manuwa done? That’s not very exciting.”

Rockhold previously mentioned his interest in a rematch with Chris Weidman or a fight with Anderson Silva as potential options for him.

That said, the American Kickboxing Academy fighter now seems more eager to face Silva rather than Weidman as he explained how it nearly came to fruition a couple of years ago.

“I’m not huge on retracing my footsteps, let’s say that,” he added when asked who he would prefer over Weidman or Silva. “You know, sometimes it’s exciting to do that – I mean, rarely it is – but I like to pave a new path everywhere I go for the most part, and that should answer your question.

“… I remember back in the day he [Silva] had mentioned it, and the UFC wasn’t ready to put it together. And then I took that loss to Vitor, so that got delayed and Weidman beat me to the punch. And then I got into a position where I called him and he didn’t want it. So, maybe the time’s right. You never know. We will see. Like I said, I gotta do me first.”

It would seem UFC light-heavyweight Jimi Manuwa is ready to put the gloves back on one more time setting his targets on former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold.

Taking to twitter, Manuwa simply said “Luke ?”

This comes just a day after Rockhold shared with MMA Uk that he “might be getting an itch to fight again”.

In his last outing, Rockhold stepped up to light-heavyweight to take on Jan Blachowicz. The bout ended with him being knocked out in the second round.

Manuwa hinted at his return to the octagon earlier this year tweeting the following.

“All this time off has made me realise I’m that I was truly born for this game  !”

The 40 year old seemingly retired from MMA after losing his last four bouts (3 via knockout) against top contenders in the light-heavyweight division.

Unfortunately for Manuwa, it would appear Rockhold is planning to return to the middleweight division in his comeback outing.

“A lot of interesting choices. If Anderson is still interested and seemingly he is, maybe, you never know. Weidman’s got a fight coming up. If something, he comes out of that well, you never know. There’s options.”

Rockhold went further sharing his plan to take some time and get healthy before he fights again.

“I’ve got to get healthy. It’s getting healthy and getting everything right and just taking some time off. I’ve been pushing it so hard for 15 years in this sport. It’s nice to have a break, mentally it’s freeing. Get focused on some other things I can do and there’s a lot to maintain and keep up with.”

A timeline is unclear to when either fighter will make their return.

Former UFC light-heavyweight contender Jimi Manuwa is
playing with the idea of returning to fighting but has ruled out stepping up to
compete at heavyweight.

The 40-year-old Londoner announced his retirement from the sport in June 2019 after suffering a first-round knockout defeat to Aleksandar Rakic, his fourth UFC loss in a row.

Speaking exclusively to LowKickMMA, Manuwa has now revealed
he could be ready to return to fighting, although he admits to having some
mixed feeling about ending his short retirement.

“It’s up and down with me. Some days I think I want to come back, others I think fuck it, some days I want to go to boxing. It’s crazy because retirement it was never planned. It wasn’t planned for me anyway because if I had of won my fight (against Alexander Rakic) I would of carried on fighting. So, it’s nothing to do with my body or I feel slow or whatever. I’m still smashing everything in the gym. I still feel as fast as ever and as strong as ever. It’s very hard.

Despite officially retiring Manuwa seems to be spending as
much time in the gym as he did during his fight career. The power-punching Brit
is in training once, twice, sometimes even three times a day.

“Some weeks I’ll go train like I’m in fight camp – twice a day. It’s what my body is used to. I’ve been doing it for the last 12-years or whatever. It’s what my body is used to. Sometimes I’ll be training two even three times a day like I’m in camp. Some days I won’t bother. I’ll just go gym to push weights and stuff. It’s kinda crazy to process in my head that I’m not actually competing.”

Over the last few years Manuwa feels like he’d stopped improving as a fighter, he had thought of training as simply something he had to do, rather than a chance to enhance his skills. Now everything has changed, Manuwa is enjoying his work and continuously trying to improve the talent he has been blessed with.

“I’ve been training to get better as a martial artist. Lots of wrestling and technical boxing training, not just hitting pads. In this sport there is only so far you can get off of your talent. I got pretty far off my talent and skills, but I don’t feel like I learnt anything new in the last couple of years to keep up with the evolution of the sport.”

To many Manuwa is a monstrous fighter capable of knocking out any man on the planet. The man himself though realises his limits. Those limits are the reason that should he come back, Maunwa will not be competing at heavyweight.

“I don’t think I’d fight at heavyweight. It would definitely be light heavyweight. I haven’t got bloated or put on too much weight. I’m still floating around 105KG (231lbs). I’m the same weight I’ve always been you know when I’ve been in camp. Going to heavyweight I think those guys would be way too big for me.”

Should Jimi Manuwa end his retirement and return to
fighting in the UFC?
