Joe Rogan details potential pitfalls related to alcohol when it comes to athletes’ ability to recover and perform.

UFC commentator, Joe Rogan, is perhaps better known for his world-famous podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan essentially interviews everyone under the sun on his podcast, including many fighters and athletes. Most recently, Rogan hosted the number 4 ranked Welterweight in the UFC, Belal Muhammad.

Rogan and Muhammad discussed many things in the nearly 3-hour-long conversation, including the importance of diet and alcohol restriction when it comes to performing at an elite level.

“Bars are everywhere. It’s fun. But the reality is, it’s f***ing terrible for you,” Rogan said. “And if you’re a professional athlete and you’re in this world of professional athleticism that has very little room for error, […] And if you can maximize your recovery and maximize your health and maximize your vitality by not drinking alcohol, I would you know, I would tell people to do it. […] guys who get drunk, guys who really like to party and drink, you are f***ing chipping away at your health. Yeah, there are no ifs, ands or buts about it.” (H/T MiddleEasy)

Joe Rogan urges fighters to limit their alcohol usage in order to maximize their career

This isn’t the first time Rogan has prompted sobriety as he participates in sober October yearly where he and his friend abstain from alcohol and recreational drugs for the month of October. The result of this practice provides them with a lot of health benefits which extend from better sleep to easier recovery after workouts.

Fighters tend to have grueling training sessions and typically more than one a day. So, recovery is essential for athletes in order to stay consistent with their training and develop new skills. The career of an MMA fighter is already volatile enough so it seems that it’s best if you limit anything that might lower your chances of excelling. For Joe Rogan, that is alcohol as he believes limiting alcohol usage will help athletes to maximize their health and get the most out of their careers.

Francis Ngannou Joe Rogan Mad UFC

Veteran UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan has expressed his disappointment to see heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou depart the promotion – particularly before an expected fight with former light heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones.

Ngannou, the promotion’s undisputed heavyweight champion up until last weekend, was stripped of his undisputed title and handed his official release from the promotion amid a longstanding contract dispute with the Dana White-led outfit.

Free to field offers from other promotions, the UFC also elected to waive their exclusive matching rights period with Ngannou – leaving the Cameroonian free to discuss terms and deals with other organizations.

Joe Rogan shares his thoughts on Francis Ngannou’s UFC departure

As a result, the promotion have since booked a vacant title fight between the aforenoted, Jones and former interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane for UFC 285 on March 4. – leading to the aforenoted, Rogan expressing his disappointment that the UFC failed to ever land on a fight between Ngannou and Jones.

I’m so bummed out by this whole thing,” Joe Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience during an interview with UFC welterweight, Belal Muhammad. “I don’t like when a champion leaves [the UFC]. I do not like the best guy in the world not being the champion. If Francis (Ngannou) wanted to resign, ‘Okay, congratulations, sir, you had a great career.’ Is suspect some of it involved wanting to do boxing as well.

That’s why I’m mad,” Joe Rogan explained. “I’m mad because I feel like we were deprived of one of the great fights in MMA, one of the most compelling fights in MMA. Does it mean I’m not interested in Ciryl Gane vs. Jon Jones? I’m very interested in that fight.

Ending his UFC tenure with a successful unification title win against the above-mentioned French technician, Gane, Ngannou headlined UFC 270 in January of last year, before undergoing a surgical procedure to address a knee injury suffered before the pay-per-view main event.

Joe Rogan Paddy Pimblett

UFC color commentator and podcast host, Joe Rogan has claimed that UFC lightweight, Paddy Pimblett likely should have suffered his first promotional loss last month at UFC 282, picking opponent, Jared Gordon to defeat the Liverpool native at the T-Mobile Arena.

Featuring in the co-main event of UFC 282, Pimblett managed to move to 4-0 in the organization with a unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) victory over New York native, Gordon.

In the immediate aftermath of the co-headlining matchup, various media members and commenters in the mixed martial arts community voiced their displeasure with the result in question, claiming Gordon likely should have taken the judging triumph himself instead of Pimblett.

Joe Rogan argues Jared Gordon should have scored a win at UFC 282

Footage also emerged of UFC color commentator, Rogan, rolling his eyes and throwing back his head in disbelief as Pimblett was announced as the winner by Octagon announcer, Bruce Buffer.

And in the aftermath of the dubious result, Rogan argued Gordon’s case for a win against Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports – whom Pimblett is partnered with.

“I thought Jared (Gordon) won,” Joe Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience. “I thought Jared Gordon won that fight. But it was a good fight, it certainly wasn’t a blowout, it wasn’t one of those fights where there was no f*cking way [Paddy Pimblett won]. It was a close fight.”

Yet to be booked for his next Octagon walk, Pimblett has received a slew of offers from lightweight contenders, including Renato Moicano, and Terrance McKinney since his win over Gordon.

Prior to his judging win over Gordon, Pimblett landed a trio of finishes over Jordan Leavitt, Kazula Vargas, and Luigi Vendramini since his UFC debut back in September 2021. Before his eventual move to the UFC, Pimblett had minted himself as an undisputed Cage Warriors featherweight titleholder.

“Literally the best wrestler in the division who’s a f*ckin’ motherf*cker. That guy is a motherf*cker. Khamzat ragdolls people and talks sh*t while he’s doing it. He picked up Li Jingliang and carried him to Dana White while he was talking sh*t.”

Joe Rogan on his post-fight interview with Khamzat Chimaev

Long-time UFC commentator Joe Rogan recently reflected on a post-fight interview he had with UFC star Khamzat Chimaev.

On his podcast, alongside Dave Portnoy, Joe Rogan explained how his primary role in the post-fight interview is to help the fighter shine in the spotlight. However, he was struggling with ‘Borz’ Chimaev due to how much the Swedish-Russian fighter missed weight the day before.

Chimaev is on his way to a title shot in the UFC title but missed the 170 weight limit by a whopping 8.5 lbs. Rogan explained:

“I was in a situation where I wanted to praise Khamzat because he just rag-dolled Kevin Holland in one of the most spectacular performances of the year … But also, he weighed in eight and a half pounds overweight. He f*cked up the entire promotion.”
