Outspoken welterweight contender Colby Covington has had his fair share of words with a variety of people in the mixed martial arts community and that includes longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan.

Previously, Rogan had warned Covington about comments he made towards troubled former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones:

“You’ve got to be careful, watch your f**king words,” Rogan said. “You’re going to get slapped in the face by a guy who can kill you with his hands.”

Covington then responded by saying that he might just have to slap Rogan. And on a recent edition of his podcast, Rogan once again discussed the situation:

“Colby Covington, don’t slap me,” Rogan said. “You said you were going to slap me? Don’t slap me. I was talking s**t. Because I was telling that Jon Jones might slap him. ‘I might slap you!’ I like Colby, I like what he’s doing. He’s talking a lot of s**t, I’m just saying be careful who you talk shit to. Talking s**t to Jon Jones … he’s one of the baddest motherf**kers who ever lived.”

Continuing on, however, Rogan admitted that Covington has been smart in being brash and brining attention to himself:

“He’s making a lot of money, he’s being smart,” Joe said. “The reason Colby is fighting for the title, the reason Colby is going to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the interim title, is not just because he’s beaten good guys, because he has beaten Demian Maia. But it’s more importantly that he’s going to put asses in the seats. Part of the fight business now. There’s pre- and post-Conor McGregor, and post Conor McGregor the game has changed. It’s red panties night, baby. Everything’s different.”

Covington is currently scheduled to take on former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in an interim welterweight title fight at UFC 225 on June 9 in Chicago, Illinois.

Longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan understands that Conor McGregor is a special talent.

Make no mistake about it, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion is the biggest fighter that the UFC has under contract right now. Fight fans could make the argument that he’s the biggest star that the promotion has ever had.

With that being said, he has caused some trouble outside of the Octagon that has received bad press. Some people might say that any press is good press, but others may disagree.

First, McGregor got in trouble when he stormed the cage during a Bellator event to celebrate with a teammate but ended up striking a Bellator employee almost physical with referee Marc Goddard back in November.

Most recently, McGregor and several members of his entourage decided to fly from Ireland to Brooklyn, New York earlier this month to get revenge on current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

This led to him attacking the fighter bus that had Khabib on and he was arrested as a result.

He was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief. McGregor still has a court date set for June 14th to face his charges.

While speaking with Kevin Lee on the latest episode of his MMA Show, Rogan talked about how UFC President Dana White and other promotion officials treat McGregor differently when he acts out compared to other fighters.

“He just keeps f**king up with this kind of stuff and no one’s saying, ‘Get rid of him!’” said Rogan (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “He’s worth so much money. It’s really fascinating. Imagine if Ray Borg and him switched sides. If Ray Borg showed up with all his boys and was screaming and yelling and threw a dolly at the window, it’s a done deal forever. Think about Paul Daley. Paul Daley must be at home going, ‘Motherf**ker! F**k Dana White!’

“Until you get to that stratosphere that Conor McGregor – there’s so much money to be made, that’s the problem. The rules get bent. All Paul Daley did was throw a punch at Josh Kosheck after [fight was over]. It didn’t even connect! That could have been sorted out.”

“There’s a level to the game where you’re so valuable – if Conor McGregor does a pay-per-view fight, especially if they do all that crazy nonsense with Mayweather – if they ever did that, they’re just printing money,” said Rogan. “They’re printing money. It’s so hard for them to not take that money.”

“I don’t think New York is ever letting that motherf**ker fight there again,” said Rogan. “I just don’t think they’re gonna do that. They don’t play games. That athletic commission is a different commission. They’re new to MMA and that was embarrassing to them. Him throwing the f**king dolly and the fact that they let him get in there with all his boys, the whole thing was just so thuggish.”

McGregor has not been seen in the Octagon since beating Eddie Alvarez to become a two-division champ at UFC 205 in November of 2016.

Joe Rogan Believes Conor McGregor Getting Special Treatment Is Problem

Longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan is known to speak his mind and he’s doing just that about Conor McGregor.

It used to be a situation where the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion would make headlines due to a beef with another fighter or speculation as to when he would compete in the Octagon again.

However, that has all changed due to his latest antics that got him placed behind bars and the subject of controversy for his actions.

It’s been well established that McGregor and several members of his entourage decided to fly from Ireland to Brooklyn, New York earlier this month to get revenge on current lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

This led to him attacking the fighter bus that had Khabib on and he was arrested as a result.

He was charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief. McGregor still has a court date set for June 14th to face his charges.

During a recent MMA edition of his podcast, Rogan spoke with former title contender Alexander Gustafsson about various topics including McGregor’s antics.

“Switch it around; imagine if Ray Borg threw that dolly and Conor were inside. He’d be gone, his career would be over,” Rogan told Alexander Gustafsson during the most recent episode of the JRE MMA Show podcast (transcript via MMA Mania). “That’s one of the more f—ked up things about this is that you know Conor is getting special treatment. He is, and that’s not good for anybody.”

“Michael Chiesa, I’m sad that he got cut but Chiesa is a tough bastard, he will be fine,” Rogan said. He is probably pissed off, will sue Conor and make a shit load of money suing him. But what if it hit Rose? The f—king world would hate him. What if Rose was blinded in one eye because of that?”

“If I was Conor, I would settle every f—king thing outside of a courtroom because if he loses and he gets a felony, he’s f—ked,” Rogan added. “He probably won’t even be able to come into the country.”
