Bellator middleweight Joe Schilling is asserting that the bar patron he assaulted earlier this week deserved it.

A video surfaced showing Schilling punching a bar patron he bumped into, knocking the man out cold. Schilling seems to show no remorse for his actions as he walks away from the man and stunned bar patrons.

After the video surfaced, Schilling took to social media to give his version of events. In an exclusive with Hans Molenkamp, Schilling asserted that the bar patron, who remains unidentified, had been aggressive and racist throughout the evening leading up to the incident. (H/T Beyond Kickboxing)

“Little context… this guy’s rapping like an idiot. The busboy, who happens to be black, walks by and this idiot bumps into him and screams out ‘me and broke n****s, we don’t get along.’ The busboy is serriously offended, but doesn’t want to lose his job.”

He continued, “as the night goes on, this clown starts looking at me… I go outside to smoke. As I’m walking back, he bumps into me. I put my hand out to catch him, he immediately says sorry. You can see me nod my head like cool. Then he realizes it’s me, the guy he’s been rapping to all night and yells, ‘Hey!’ I turn around and he flexes on me … bad decisions are made everyday.”

“The busboy and DJ came up to thank me. As you can see from this video, when he flexed on me, I was scared for my life and simply defending myself against the evil in this world.”

In a subsequent Instagram post, Schilling shares screenshots of what are, presumably, messages from the bar patron’s ex-partner and a friend of the ex-partner claiming that the man was abusive. Schilling posted the screenshot and labeled it “The Lord’s Work.”

Not sure if we should consider Schilling’s post as a supplement to his original explanation or as a justification for his actions. However, the internet has tons of opinions regarding his actions that range from supportive of Schilling to calling for legal action.

More to this story is likely to unfold, and Low Kick MMA will keep you updated.

Do you think Joe Schilling was justified in knocking out the bar patron in the video?

Joe Schilling had a unique visitor in his gym who used a sex toy in his gym and decided to beat him up for it.

Schilling had the video on an Instagram story which was captured by a Twitter user. In the video he threw kicks at the man which is hard to watch, and definitely not safe for work.

Joe Schilling later explained why he beat up the man. He says it is a family gym and it was a homeless man who sneaked into the gym to use the shower but he caught himself using a sex toy.

“A little context on the video you saw,” Schilling said (via BJPENN). “I’m running my gym, this guy sneaks in. This bum sneaks in and starts taking a shower. There’s a bum in the bathroom taking a shower. I get it, bums need showers too, although you’re trespassing. So I’m waiting for him to come out. Water turns off. I’m knocking on the door, he won’t answer the door. He starts screaming when I’m knocking on the door. He finally opens the door, and he’s f**king himself in the a*s with a dildo. That’s why I did what I did.”

Currently, what happened following the video is uncertain and whether or not cops were called or charges were pressed is uncertain.

Joe Schilling is currently 4-6 in MMA with his last six fights coming in Bellator where he has gone 3-3. He also fought Tony Ferguson on the regional scene, where he lost by submission. Schilling is also a decorated kickboxer.

As MMA fans we’ve almost become immune to stories of fighters getting injured, from broken hands and feet through to fractured noses, orbital bones and torn ACL’s.

These kinds of ailments are easily diagnosed from MRI scans and x-rays, but what’s harder to pinpoint is the toll that being repeatedly punched, kicked, elbowed and kneed in the face does to the brain and overall mental health of the fighters.

In recent years the brain disorder Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) has come to light in American Football, a condition caused from repeated blows to the head that can cause memory loss, difficulty thinking and eventually dementia, but it’s something that can only be fully diagnosed via an autopsy after death.

It’s often argued that MMA is still such a young sport, relatively speaking, that we don’t fully understand the extent of the damage it may or may not be causing, but while that may be true to an extent, there are already a growing body of anecdotal evidence that some fighters are paying a high price for their exploits in the cage.

In this article we’ll acknowledge the elephant in the room and focus in particular on 10 alarming stories of MMA stars who have suffered from one of the leading symptoms of brain trauma – memory loss, whether it’s in the immediate aftermath of some of most violent knockouts in UFC history, or in some particularly troubling cases on a daily basis even long after they’ve retired from the sport.

Krzysztof Soszynski

In 2014, 35-year-old UFC fighter Krzysztof Soszynski not only announced his retirement from the sport, but also bravely spoke out about the deeply troubling reasons for his decision.

By that stage Soszynski was already over two-years removed from his last fight against Igor Pokrajac at UFC 140, where he’d been knocked out cold for the first time in his career after just 35 seconds.

Soszynski said on ‘Inside MMA’ that his brain didn’t wake up for 40 minutes after the fight and so he has no recollection of being in the Octagon, giving a post-fight interview backstage, showering or changing afterwards.

Soszynski took six months off afterwards, but then admitted to UFC President Dana White that he was still having “head trouble,” including forgetting things, struggling to find words, mixing things up and having difficulty counting backwards from 20 to 0.

Upon hearing that White retired Soszynski on the spot and sent him to a brain specialist to get checked out, but unfortunately for ‘The Polish Experiment,’ even a few years later he was still dealing with the same issues.

“I’m sitting here now, and I can tell you I don’t remember Wednesday. And that’s two days ago,” Soszynski told Bas Rutten and Kenny Rice on ‘Inside MMA’.

Soszynski hasn’t bowed down to his ailments though and has gone on to become the UFC’s Director of MMA for their U.S. gyms as well as landing small roles in movies like ‘Logan’ and ‘Here Comes The Boom.’
