Johnny Eblen touts ability to defeat Israel Adesanya I think I destroy him UFC Bellator MMA

Bellator MMA middleweight champion, Johnny Eblen has been touted as arguably the best fighter at the weight class on the planet amid his roughshod run through the ranks under the scrutiny of Scott Coker, and now the American Top Team staple has claimed he would “destroy” his UFC champion counterpart, Israel Adesanya.

Boasting an undefeated 13-0 professional record, Eblen managed to clinch the undisputed middleweight champion from former UFC top-contender, Gegard Mousasi back in June of last year in the main event of Bellator 282, landing a one-sided unanimous decision victory.

Successfully defending the crown in the main event of Bellator 290 back in February in Inglewood, California, Eblen landed another shutout decision success, this time against Anatoly Tokov.

Johnny Eblen believes he matches up perfectly with UFC kingpin, Israel Adesanya

And with one eye firmly placed on this weekend’s middleweight clash between the aforenoted, Mousasi and Fabian Edwards – the younger brother of current undisputed UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, Johnny Eblen claimed if he was pitted with City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya, he would comfortably “destroy” the Nigerian-Kiwi.

“I think I destroy ‘Stylebender’ (Israel Adesanya),” Johnny Eblen told Peter Carroll during a recent episode of The Craic. “It’s just a bad matchup for him, I just mix things up too well. I wrestle, strike and he really exposed himself when he fought (Alex) Pereira, how bad his grappling was. So, I just think I’m a terrible matchup for him.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

For Adesanya, the Eugene Bareman product managed to reclaim the middleweight crown at UFC 287 back in April against four-time combat sports rival, Alex Pereira, stopping the Brazilian with a devastating second round KO in their Miami, Florida main event.

Yet to be booked for his impending Octagon return, UFC president, Dana White has earmarked Adesanya for a Sydney, Australia headlining return for the promotion before the end of this year, in a pay-per-view main event against either former champion, Robert Whittaker in a trilogy bout, or emerging South African challenger, Dricus du Plessis.

The return of the Bellator brand to England’s capital has taken a major blow less than two weeks out.

After the Professional Fighters League (PFL) acquired Bellator MMA and announced the Bellator Champions Series, founder Donn Davis outlined plans for two titles to be on the line at each of the eight events.

While that promise came through for event one in Belfast, the subsequent cards in Paris and Dublin saw just one piece of gold at stake. And although that trend continues in San Diego this week, London has now lost its one and only championship clash.

Following a lightweight title showdown between Usman Nurmagomedov and Alexandr Shabliy on US soil this coming Saturday, the Bellator Champions Series will cross the pond to stage its fifth event of the year inside London’s OVO Arena Wembley.

But just days out, fans planning to attend have received some disastrous news…

Eblen vs. Edwards Postponed, McCourt Headlines Championshipless Champions Series Card

Topping the lineup on Sept. 14 was scheduled to be middleweight kingpin Johnny Eblen and England’s own Fabian Edwards, with the latter slated to challenge for “The Human Cheat Code’s” title for the second time in as many years.

On Tuesday, however, a post on the Bellator MMA social media accounts announced that the pair’s main event has been scrapped from the card and will be rescheduled for a later date. The reason for the cancellation is unclear as of this writing.

With insufficient time to book a replacement bout with similar stakes and name value, the original women’s featherweight co-main event between Leah McCourt and Sara Collins has been elevated to the headline spotlight.

That news was met with frustration from plenty of UK fans, some of whom took to the comment sections on X and Instagram to enquire about possible refunds.

Below the promoted main event matchup, notable UK names like former PFL Europe standout Simeon Powell, ex-UFC contender Marc Diakiese, and highly touted American Archie Colgan are all set to be in action.

Vadim Nemkov, Yoel Romero

Vadim Nemkov will unfortunately not be defending his Bellator Light-heavyweight title at Bellator 290: Bader vs. Emelianenko 2, but a new addition to the card sees Johnny Eblen defending his Middleweight title in its place.

Nemkov was scheduled for his fifth title defense at Bellator 290 vs. Yoel Romero, however, the defending champ was forced to withdraw from this bout due to undisclosed reasons.

Vadim’s previous title defense came during his 2nd bout vs. Corey Anderson, where he came out victorious via Unanimous Decision. The 2nd bout against Anderson was necessary due to their first bout ending in a No Contest when they accidentally had a devastating clash of heads.

Excluding the previously mentioned No Contest, Vadim Nemkov has enjoyed a run of 8 straight wins in Bellator, but the opportunity for a ninth will have to wait a while longer. Longtime veteran, Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero, is coming off a sensational knockout win over Melvin Manhoef, and it is truly a disappointment that we won’t see Romero challenge for the title in Los Angeles on February 4th.

Johnny Eblen vs. Anatoly Tokov to Replace as Co-Main Event

With the former co-main event, Vadim Nemkov vs. Yoel Romero, off the card, a new title bout between Johnny Eblen and Anatoly Tokov will take its place.

Johnny Eblen captured Bellator gold when he defeated the legendary Gegard Mousasi at Bellator 282 via Unanimous Decision. Eblen is now an astounding 12-0 in his professional MMA career with 8 of those wins coming in Bellator.

For his first title defense, Anatoly Tokov (31-3), another fighter who has never lost in Bellator, will challenge Eblen for the Middleweight gold.

The newly booked title bout, Eblen vs. Tokov, certainly erases much of the disappointment from the originally canceled bout between Nemkov and Romero. Bellator 290 will now once again feature two title fights: The Co-Main event of Eblen vs. Tokov and the Main Event, Bader vs. Emelianenko 2.

MMA fans and Bellator are both very fortunate to have such a thrilling replacement in the Co-Main event slot of this card. Don’t miss out on February 4th as Bellator 290 once again contains two enthralling title fights just as originally scheduled.

Would you like to see Vadim Nemkov vs. Yoel Romero rebooked?
