Anik was forced to eat his words when Diaz submitted the brash Irishman in the second round of their welterweight bout, throwing the MMA world into an uproar.

After the bout, the Stockton native took a few shots at Anik regarding the situation, but in the end it was all fun and games with Diaz insisting that the commentator didn’t have to get a tattoo.

Anik, however, took matters seriously, and is apparently a man of his word, taking to his official Instagram account earlier this evening to post a picture of his newly minted ‘209’ tattoo:

I guess it’s safe to say that Anik shouldn’t have betted against Stockton’s finest.

Well, we all know how that fight went, as Diaz scored a second round victory via rear-naked choke. And Anik proved to be a man of his word, posting a picture of his ink on Instagram.

The news made Diaz happy, as the fighter was upset about Anik betting against him prior to the bout.

Heading into the bout, McGregor was a massive favorite over the late replacement Diaz, and Anik believed that the “Notorious” one would get the job done.

Anik was so confident in the Irishman that he offered to get a ‘209’, which is the area code of Diaz’s home in Stockton, California, tattoo if Diaz were to win.

Well, Anik has been forced to eat his words, as Diaz shocked the world last night (March 5, 2016), submitting McGregor via rear naked choke in the second round.

Nearing the end of the post-fight press conference, Diaz took his chance to fire back at Anik one more time:

“Yo! Yo! Yo!” Diaz yelled. “Jon Anik better get a motherf—ing ‘209’ tattoo or ima whoop his little ass.”

Later on during a media scrum, Diaz was asked if he would pay for the tattoo, responding in a friendly, and joking matter:

“No! Jon Anik should pay for his own tattoo!” Diaz replied when asked if he would pay for what would be Anik’s first ever ink work. “He’s the one who said I was going to lose, and he said he was going to get this tattoo.”

“…I’m just kidding,” Diaz said with a laugh. “Jon Anik, you ain’t got to get no tattoo.”

Although Diaz laughed it off, Anik took to his official twitter account to praise the Stockton native for his spectacular performance:

Undoubtedly the best win of his career, Diaz should be in line for a huge fight next if not a title shot.

How surprised were you by the outcome of last night’s event?

Nate Diaz Reacts To Jon Anik: You Will Soon Be Slapped

It doesn’t seem as if many are picking Nate Diaz to upset UFC featherweight champion the “Notorious” Conor McGregor in the main event of this weekend’s (March 5, 2016) UFC 196 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

In fact, UFC color commentator Jon Anik is so confident in McGregor that he’s offered to get a “209”, which is the area code of Diaz’s home in Stockton, California, tattoo if Diaz can pull out a victory in Vegas.

The brash and outspoken Diaz didn’t take kindly to these comments as expected, taking to his official twitter account to fire back at Anik:

Originally, McGregor was slated to face off with reigning lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos for the 155-pound strap, but the Brazilian was forced out of the bout early last week with a broken foot.

It was then quickly announced that Diaz would step up on short notice to save the main event, but also that the two men would be fighting at welterweight.

The “Notorious” one has been victorious in all seven of his Octagon appearances, and is coming off of a fantastic 13 second knockout of former long-time 145-pound title holder Jose Aldo at December 12, 2015’s UFC 194.

Diaz, on the other, hand recently returned from a layoff to meet Michael Johnson at December 19, 2015’s UFC on FOX 17. Showing up on point and in shape, Diaz was able to pick up a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.

The hype and build-up to McGregor vs. Diaz has sure been a spectacle, but how do you see the fight playing out?

Do you agree with Anik, or could Diaz shock the world?

Leading up to his highly anticipated title fight with bantamweight king TJ Dillashaw at tonight’s (January 17, 2016) UFC Fight Night 81, it seems as if returning former champion Dominick Cruz has ramped up his trash talk quite a bit.

The two men came face to face on a recent edition of Counterpunch alongside UFC commentator Jon Anik, with Cruz using his intellectual and analytical mind to get the better of Dillashaw in terms of verbal warfare.

Anik spoke up to MMA Junkie Radio on the exchange, noting that while there’s a genuine dislike between the two, it seemed as if “Killashaw” was simply annoyed more than anything else:

“They were jabbing at each other up until T.J and his wife walked out of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ gym,” Anik said. “It didn’t stop when the camera stopped.

“I feel like Dillashaw was more annoyed than anything else. I don’t know that he’s going to be phased in a negative way by any emotions. I think there’s a legitimate dislike there, but at least in terms of what Dominick was doing that day, I just felt like T.J. was annoyed. I guess my biggest takeaway was the size discrepancy.”

Despite having suffered three torn ACLs and an injured groin, and having competed only once over the last four years, Cruz, a man many consider to be the best 135-pounder of all-time, appears to be highly confident heading into tonight’s affair.

Anik even went as far as to compare “The Dominator” to featherweight champion and Irish superstar Conor McGregor in terms of confidence:

“I feel like the confidence with Dominick Cruz is on a Conor McGregor level, so far be it from me to pick against him.”

While the UFC commentator has put his money on Cruz, we could be in for a very close fight this evening in Boston.

Who are you picking?

Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate Join Forces to Create an Awkward Interview [VIDEO]

If you thought an interview putting hated rivals Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate shoulder-to-shoulder would have Chael Sonnen levels of excitement, you’d be wrong.

Despite the ferocity and abject hatred between the two fighters, Jon Anik‘s interview of the first-ever female Ultimate Fighter coaches didn’t produce anything memorable save for uncomfortable levels of awkwardness.

First of all, Rousey clearly didn’t want to be that close to Tate. She was also understandably upset about the fact that her two teammates Jessamyn Duke and Peggy Morgan just fought one another.

It only went downhill from there.

Once Anik asked Tate about Julianna Pena, Rousey essentially no-sold everything Tate said and stared vacantly into the distance. When Anik brought the mic back to the Olympian and asked her about Tate’s improvements as a fighter as well as her own improvements, Rousey answered with her usual candor but without her usual passion. She was honest but apathetic.

“The first time we fought it was less than a year since I’ve gone pro, and now I’m three years,” she said with a half-scowl on her face. It wasn’t Heidi Androl-death stare level but it was close. “I’m a more improved fighter since, I don’t think I’ve seen as good a performance from her since I won the title and she’s fought a few times since then.”

It wasn’t Heidi Androl-death stare level but it was close. “I’m a more improved fighter since, I don’t think I’ve seen as good a performance from her since I won the title and she’s fought a few times since then.”

Rousey used a question about having advantages in the mind games department as a launching point to knock Tate. “I feel like I have so many advantages that it’s hard to say which one’s the biggest,” she said. When Anik turned around and asked Tate about the same topic, Rousey yawned.

To conclude the interview, Anik gave Rousey a chance to promote UFC 168. Her words, while true, had zero pep or enthusiasm to them; she was disinterested and it showed.

“Because women’s fighting is, I think, the most exciting in the UFC. This is the highest level of women’s fighting. And if you’re a fight fan you should see this.”

Anik wrapped up the interview by, strangely, promoting the rivalry as a friendship we weren’t going to see or look forward to (we were confused too).

“Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate…we look forward to not your friendship but getting in that Octagon…Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate, ladies and gentleman! Not friends right now and certainly will be adversaries on December 28th.”

Overall the whole interview was the most awkward we’ve seen in a while. But that wasn’t the only inelegant interview of the night. Rousey attended another that took place on the FOX Sports 1 post-event show. She admitted that she never watched a TUF 18 episode and was visibly perturbed. You can tell that she’s fed up with press and just wants to break arms already. But that’s fine, because we’d like to get to brass tacks too.
