Some alarming news arose earlier today when word came that former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones had been arrested and jailed for violating probation due to five traffic citations including drag racing in Albuquerque last Thursday night.

Jones had actually unveiled the news on Monday’s (March 28, 2016) The MMA Hour, telling host Ariel Helwani that he was not guilty of any wrongdoing and had just said some words to the police officer that he probably should not have in the heat of heightened emotion:

A video soon surfaced of the altercation, and indeed Jones’ repeated name calling of the police officer didn’t help the situation. Many were quick to jump to Jones’ side, however, believing the police officer to have been rude and out to get Jones after he was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges for hitting a 25-year-old pregnant woman and breaking her arm last year.

Jones was still on probation for the crime, and his probation officer apparently considered the traffic tickets a violation of that probation. Jones turned himself in earlier this morning and expects to be released and still fight rival Daniel Cormier for the title in the feature bout of UFC 197 from Las Vegas, Nevada on April 23, 2016.

His team issued a statement to MMA Fighting proclaiming their view that Jones would be absolved of any crime when given the chance to explain himself in front of a judge:

“Jon and his team are taking this very seriously, and we will let the legal process play out.

“We are confident he will be released once he has an opportunity to explain to the judge the facts in this case.”

It was short and sweet from Jones’ team, but it could be hard to rely on a judge trusting a troubled MMA fighter who has done nothing but show he cannot — or doesn’t want to — stay out of the way of law enforcement, namely on the roads of New Mexico.

Meanwhile, the UFC is collecting facts and will render a decision on Jones sometime soon, but for now, it seems as if fans can rest easy fairly reassured that Jones will be fighting at UFC 197. With his court date set for April 5, that could al change in an instant if he required to go to jail, however. Stay tuned.

Jon Jones Arrested, Jailed For Probation Violation

There’s been a massive divide in the MMA world over the last 24 hours over Jon Jones’ latest run-in with Albuquerque police, with one side firmly believing that the troubled former champion has had enough chances to right himself, while an opposing contingent believes that the officer in question acting irrationally to get a response from Jones.

However, regardless of how you feel about the incident, where Jones called a police officer a ‘f***ing Liar’ and a ‘pig,’ it appears that the court systems in New Mexico aren’t having any more of his antics, as Jones was arrested today (Tues., March 29, 2016) for violating the probation he received for hit-and-run charges stemming from his notorious accident last spring that left a 25-year-old pregnant woman with a broken arm.

After a recent traffic stop yielded nothing but a warning, a small donation, and a provision that he would not get any more tickets for 90 days, Jones was arrested for a probation violation for the five citations, including drag racing, that he received last Thursday according to TMZ, who provided his latest mugshot:

Jones apparently turned himself in at 10 a.m. this morning.

Apparently he wasn’t arrested by police, however, as FOX Sports’ Damon Martin wrote that Jones was indeed arrested by his probation officer, putting the case into the probation department’s hands:

His long-awaited UFC 197 return for the light heavyweight title against Daniel Cormier could be in some serious jeopardy now, just like his scheduled UFC 187 bout against Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson was canceled.

And even though Jones has said he’s sober and focused on only regaining the belt, the UFC has to be wondering if their ultra-talented but extremely troubled pound-for-pound king will ever be able to stay out of jail.

Right now, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Jon Jones Calls Police Officer A ‘F***ing Liar, Pig’ In Video

If former UFC champion Jon Jones wants to get off easy for his latest run-in with New Mexico police as he expects to, the content of a recent video of the incident won’t help his cause.

After news of Jones being ticketed for drag racing and four other different offenses was broke by the fighter himself on today’s episode of The MMA Hour, TMZ Sports obtained a police video of the traffic stop last Thursday night, where he said that he said a few things he regretted, and indeed he wasn’t fibbing about that.

In fact, “Bones” went on to further his reputation as a villian by calling the officer who pulled him “a f***ing liar’ and a ‘pig.’

Check it out:

But that was far from all Jones said, as the whole interaction could have the troubled former champion in some hot water given that he’s still on probation for the Albuquerque hit-and-run that ended with him being stripped of his title and suspended by the UFC last year.

Stop us if you’ve heard this one before.

Oh wait, you most definitely have.

Heading into his anticipated light heavyweight title rematch against rival Daniel Cormier in the main event of April 23’s UFC 197 from Las Vegas (and mere days after he was given a warning and made a small donation for a previous traffic stop), former champ Jon Jones is back in MORE legal trouble involving driving an automobile.

Appearing on today’s (Mon., March 28, 2016) edition of The MMA Hour, Jones told show host Ariel Helwani that he was recently issued five traffic tickets in conjunction with accused drag racing in a recent stop late last Thursday/early Friday morning.

His official citations were drag racing, an ordinance against a modified exhaust, an illegible license plate, unable to maintain a traffic lane and exhibition driving according to a report from MMA Fighting.

The controversial pound-for-pound king said that he pulled up next to some fans at a stop light, and, not wanting to talk with them, instead ‘jokingly’ revved his engine to the delight of his fans. When the stoplight changed, Jones proceeded and said he was pulled over barely 10 yards later in the 35 mile-per-hour zone:

“I definitely wasn’t drag racing.”

Jones also said that he said some choice words to the officer that he now regrets as he continues to attempt to repair his heavily damaged image before denying any wrongdoing:

“I got emotional and said some things that I probably shouldn’t have said to a police officer. He needed something to justify pulling me over. He fabricated the whole thing that I was drag racing.”

The main ticket in the stop was for drag racing while the four others had to do with alleged equipment violations on his car.

The dominant but troubled Jones is still on probation after he struck a plea deal for his highly-publicized arrest on hit-and-run charges in Albuquerque, New Mexico, last year where he allegedly ran a red light to strike a 25-year-old pregnant woman, breaking her arm in the process.

Many thought he got off easy for the seemingly foolish and dangerous incident, but Jones was soon back in the headlines for a traffic stop where he was supposedly going 75 miles per hour in a 35 mile-per-hour zone, but was given a warning and let off in audio tapes from the Albuquerque Police Department.

Rumor: Daniel Cormier Can Hardly Walk In California

If a recent report coming out of California ends up being anything, the anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and hated rival Jon Jones at April 23’s UFC 197 from Las Vegas could potentially be in some danger.

To be clear, this is only a rumor, and Cormier could just be feeling the effects of a recent training session, or even the lasting ones of his many lingering knee injuries from a lifetime of wrestling.

There has been nothing at all to confirm that Cormier is seriously injured or UFC 197’s main event is in jeopardy, but @TalkMMA on Twitter reported this weekend he was informed that Cormier was at a wrestling tournament in California, and the champ could hardly walk on his left leg:

He also speculated that with Cormier’s home gym AKA having a long and sordid history of injuries, he wouldn’t be surprised if Cormier did pull out his rematch with Jones:

That’s a bit of an off-base statement, however, because even though AKA has obviously seen many of their fighters — namely Cain Velasquez and Khabib Nurmagomedov — pull out of several high-profile fights at least in part due to their so-called “Stone Age” training methods, Cormier has actually been a comparative picture of health despite fighting without an ACL in one of his knees. He fought Jones, Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, and Alexander Gustafsson in succession during 2015, and that 205-pound gauntlet could most certainly be put against any light heavyweight’s single toughest year ever.

“Bones” infamously beat Cormier at UFC 182 after their original match at 2014’s UFC 178, which was fueled by the hype of their notorious Media Day brawl was forced to be rescheduled when Jones needed a minor procedure done on his knee.

MMA fans have jumped all over the rumor as expected, to which the source stated that he never said Cormier was out of UFC 197:

So there could be nothing to do it, but it’s at least a concerning sign that the 37-year-old Cormier could be injured less than 4 weeks before the biggest fight of his life. If he is and it’s not too serious, the rematch could potentially be moved to July’s UFC 200, the supposedly historic card that is lacking in high-profile title fights.

And hey, it’s also a slow week in MMA news. Regardless, let’s hope the champ is fine and UFC 197 goes off without a hitch.

Jon Jones Challenges Daniel Cormier’s Manhood On Twitter

Apparently Jon Jones isn’t buying Daniel Cormier’s supposed excuses for his frustration that Herb Dean was rescheduled as the referee in their anticipated main event at April 23’s UFC 197 from Las Vegas.

Cormier recently expressed frustration at the booking because he felt that Dean allowed Jones to stall up against the cage in the later rounds of their first match-up at last year’s UFC 182, but Jones has a different take on the subject.

“Bones” took to Twitter to express a wholly different point of view, noting that it was Cormier’s inability to get himself off of the cage rather than anything Dean did. Check it out:

Dean did receive a decent amount of criticism from fans and UFC President Dana White for not restarting the title fight when a clinch forced the action to screech to a halt in the fifth round, but he has long been one of the most respected and utilized officials in terms of UFC bouts, refereeing many high-profile title fights over the years.

Cormier doesn’t agree with him once again reffing his fight, however, and Jones obviously thinks that it was on ‘DC’ to get himself out the predicament rather than the referee.

What do you think? Should Dean have restarted the bout last year, and does Cormier really have any room to complain after he lost fair and square?
