Jorge Masvidal claims Conor McGregor is afraid of UFC fight we'd break records

Former undisputed welterweight champion, Jorge Masvidal has claimed former duel-weight champion, Conor McGregor is simply too scared to share the Octagon with him – suggesting a clash with the duo would break multiple records under the banner of the UFC.

Masvidal, a former two-time welterweight title challenger and the inaugural symbolic BMF championship winner, has been sidelined from combat sports since April of last year.

And suffering a fourth consecutive loss in his decision defeat, Miami veteran, Masvidal suffered a unanimous decision loss to perennial contender, Gilbert Burns.

Slated to make his sophomore outing in professional boxing next month in Las Vegas, former UFC star, Masvidal will share the ring with another UFC alum, Nate Diaz – in a rematch of their 2019 mixed martial arts fight at Madison Square Garden.

Jorge Masvidal reveals the biggest regret of his UFC career: 'I fought for everything I could'

Announcing plans last month to make a comeback to the UFC in the future regardless of result against Stockton veteran Diaz, Masvidal has once more touched on what he believes would be a record-breaking fight with UFC megastar, McGregor.

Jorge Masvidal laments failed Conor McGregor fight

Claiming he had unsuccessfully attempted to chase a fight with the Dubliner in the past, Masvidal claims a fight with McGregor would smash multiple records in the Dana White-led organization.

Conor McGregor

“The UFC has tried to make this fight happen, and Conor (McGregor) doesn’t want it,” Jorge Masvidal told MMA Junkie. “He doesn’t want the damn fight. He never mentions my name, but we’re the biggest fight possible. You think Michael Chandler sells more than me versus Conor?”

“Nobody in their fight mind thinks that,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “I’m one of the biggest pay-per-view draws of the UFC in the last five-six years. Of course, we’d break records, but this guy [Conor McGregor] won’t do it. In my future, I don’t see this fight happening unless I run into him in a parking lot.”

As for McGregor, the Dubliner was forced from a UFC 303 return this weekend against Chandler after fracturing a toe on his left foot, however, plans to make a comeback to the Octagon as soon as August – if not September.

Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman squash beef and show respect on podcast we had a past

Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal were once rivals as the two fought twice for ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’s’ welterweight title both times.

During the build-up to both of their fights, it was full of trash-talk as the two took aim at one another. Usman ended up winning the first fight by decision, which Masvidal took on just days’ notice, while in the second time, he knocked ‘Gamebred’ out.

Although the two used to be rivals, they are friendly now as Kamaru Usman had Jorge Masvidal on his Pound 4 Pound podcast and the two showed respect to each other.

Usman: My man, Jorge, first of all, thank you for the time, thank you for being here with us. We have had a past, a lot of people from the outside don’t really understand what we do as gladiators when we step in there, stepping out, we are humans and most importantly, we are men. I just want to thank you for your time.

Masvidal: We are competitors, me and you never went on the personal line. There is one guy, I won’t even mention his bitch ass name. Everybody else who I have competed against, I wish nothing but the best for them in life. I wish they go and do their thing, open up gyms or hit the lottery or whatever. One dude that I can’t stand this motherf****r, I can’t even say his name or police will show up on me.”

It is cool to see Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal share respect for each other as that is a big part of martial arts.

Kamaru Usman admits he was scared going into the first Jorge Masvidal fight

Heading into the first fight against Jorge Masvidal, which ‘Gamebred’ stepped up on just days’ notice, Kamaru Usman admits there were nerves for him.

Masvidal was coming off KO wins over Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Darren Till in his return to the sport. So, going into the first fight, Usman says he was afraid that ‘Gamebred’ would baptize him and KO him as he had been doing.

“I’m watching [Jorge’s] interviews, ‘I’m gonna baptize this guy’, and it gets to me,” Usman said on the podcast. “I’m like ‘Oh s***, is he gonna baptize me? What the f***?’. And I’m in the hotel, and I’m super nervous [for the fight]. Especially that moment before you go to the arena for the fight, I’m in my room like ‘Why the f*** am I so nervous right now? Get it together, get it together’… I would say that was one of the most nerve-wracking fights that I had. All the circumstances.”

Ultimately, Usman ended up winning a decision in the first fight in a rather lackluster fight. The two then had a rematch and it was Usman who won by KO.

Jorge Masvidal was not impressed with Chael Sonnen and his boxing performance against Anderson Silva.

Masvidal and Sonnen have taken shots at one another as of late, as Sonnen has expressed interest in a potential boxing match against Masvidal. Sonnen is coming off his boxing debut where he went all five rounds against Anderson Silva.

Despite Chael Sonnen going the distance with Anderson Silva, Jorge Masvidal was not impressed and is open to fighting him down the line.

“The fight wasn’t the best, obviously,” Masvidal told MMA Mania. “Chael’s f—king trash, bro. I know I’m supposed to try and sell this fight and be like, ‘Yo, yeah, it’s gonna be a great fight. Bro, Chael was f—king trash. This motherf—ker’s trash. Like when you leave the trash can open and the water gets in there and it’s liquid trash-water, that f—kin’ smells like s—t and there’s nothing you can do with it, that’s what Chael is.

“That being said, I would not mind driving my knuckles through his face for a nice paycheck, breaking his eye orbital. Just doing everybody a f—king favor because nobody really likes that dude,” Masvidal added. “I wouldn’t mind crushing that dude and his empire. I’m not coming for a f—king exhibition match.”

Before that fight can happen, however, Masvidal is set to box Nate Diaz on July 6 in Anaheim, California.

Jorge Masvidal wants to ‘bust up’ Chael Sonnen

After all the back-and-forth between Jorge Masvidal and Chael Sonnen, ‘Gamebred’ is hoping it will lead to a fight between the two.

Masvidal says he plans on knocking out Diaz and then making the fight with Sonnen so he can shut him up afterward.

Jorge Masvidal

“After I knock out Nate, if I have some downtime this year, yeah, I wouldn’t mind busting up f—king Chael bad, bro,” Masvidal said. “It would probably be at super heavyweight because he don’t want to cut weight.”

A fight between Masvidal and Sonnen would be massive and filled with trash-talk which will only add to the anticipation of the bout.
