After a scheduled IBF heavyweight title shot against Daniel Dubois suddenly fell through, Joseph Parker remained interim WBO heavyweight champion on Saturday by stopping Martin Bakole in two rounds.

The fight served as the co-main event to Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Parker worked his jab over the course of the first round, leading the way in attack as Bakole seemed to try and conserve energy. That did him nothing, however, as the New Zealander landed a right hand to the top of his challenger’s head in the second round. This caused Bakole to stumble and fall to the canvas.

The Congolese behemoth made it to his feet, but the fight was stopped, as Bakole still did not have his feet under him.

Joseph Parker KOs Martin Bakole In Two Rounds

Parker has now won six straight fights, which includes decision wins over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang, the latter of which won him the WBO interim title last March. The Kiwi was scheduled to be stripped of the interim belt originally upon the start of his matchup with Dubois.

Parker is the WBO mandatory challenger for WBA/WBC/WBO champion Oleksandr Usyk, but there have been previous talks of Usyk facing Dubois in order to gain an undisputed heavyweight champion in boxing once again.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s result snapped a 10-fight win streak for Bakole.

Daniel Dubois has been officially ruled out of his title clash with Joseph Parker.

Dubois was set to defend his IBF heavyweight title for the first time against Parker this weekend at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The bout was slated to be part of the undercard for the highly anticipated undisputed light heavyweight rematch between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol.

However, rumors swirled on Thursday that “Dynamite” was under the weather and undergoing medical evaluation. As uncertainty loomed over his participation, three potential replacements — Lawrence Okolie, David Adeleye, and Mourad Aliev — reportedly emerged as contenders to step in on short notice.

After much speculation, The Ring, owned by Turki Alalshikh, confirmed after the event’s pre-fight press conference that Dubois had been officially ruled out of his clash with Parker. In a surprising twist, heavyweight contender Martin Bakole was announced as his short-notice replacement.

Bakole is on a 10-fight winning streak, last showcasing his power in August with a dominant fifth-round knockout over Jared Anderson. The 31-year-old Congolese boxer holds a professional record of 21-1, with 16 of his victories coming by knockout.

Meanwhile, Parker enters the bout riding a five-fight winning streak, most recently edging out Zhilei Zhang via majority decision in March 2024. The 33-year-old New Zealander last tasted defeat in September 2022 against Joe Joyce. With a professional record of 35-3, Parker has secured 23 of his victories by knockout.

It has been a reoccurring theme throughout Jon Jones’ career that he always looks to bring in some of the best specialists in their fields to train with him. This has been no different ahead of his long awaited return at UFC 309 this Saturday night.

Fans have already seen how “Bones” has been working alongside one of the best jiu-jitsu competitors and wrestlers around right now by added Gable Steveson and Gordon Ryan to his close knit team. Over a month out from his first heavyweight title defense, Jones was also seen getting some training in one of the top heavyweight boxers around right now.

New Zealand’s Joseph Parker is coming off of his two most impressive wins to date with victories over Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang. Jones was incredibly impressed by the in-form competitor, as he spoke about during a recent interview with Fox Sports New Zealand.

“He’s so disciplined and so dedicated. Literally every day he was here, he was just trying to figure out ways to get better, his diet, his worth ethic. He’s just so humble like he was willing to learn from anyone around and you would imagine a person that’s fought at the level he’s fought would have a little bit of pride and a little bit of ego and man, he was just abnormally kind and I’m really grateful to call him a friend.”

Given that his upcoming opponent, Stipe Miocic, is known for his boxing skills, working alongside someone as high level as Parker is sure to have been a great experience for Jones heading into Madison Square Garden on November 16. He reflected on what he was able to gain from the time they spent together.

“Well it was very humbling to try to box with him. He’s just so powerful and so tight in his position and his technique. He gave me some great pointers. I don’t want to get into it in depth because a lot that he taught me, I’ll be trying to implement in my next fight but we both have many years of training experience and to collaborate and to learn different training methods from him was really nice, him and his coach [George] Lockhart.”

Ex-UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou reacts to Deontay Wilder’s shocking loss to Joseph Parker

Francis Ngannou and Deontay Wilder

Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou is chomping at the bit to fight Deontay Wilder after ‘The Bronze Bomber’ suffered a shocking loss at the hands of Joseph Parker.

Wilder returned to the ring more than a year removed from his first-round knockout of Robert Helenius as part of the ‘Day of Reckoning’ card in Riyadh. Hoping to fight his way back into title contention, Wilder appeared to suffer from a severe bout of ring rust as he failed to offer much in the way of offense throughout the 36-minute affair.

In the end, Parker scored a decisive unanimous decision, shocking the live crowd and leaving many to wonder if the 38-year-old pugilist’s best days are behind him.

Rumored to be in talks for a fight with ‘The Bronze Bomber’ either inside a cage or the ring sometime in 2024, Francis Ngannou offered his immediate reaction to Wilder’s lopsided loss on social media.

“Licking my lips after watching this fight,” Ngannou wrote on X.

Ngannou and Wilder Have been linked to a clash in 2024

Francis Ngannou shook the boxing world to its core in October, going toe-to-toe with perhaps the greatest fighter on the planet, Tyson Fury. ‘The Predator’ even put Fury on the canvas at one point, but ultimately came up short on the somewhat controversial scorecards. Since then, every top 10 heavyweight has been itching to test their skills against the MMA star. That includes Deontay Wilder who suggested that a fight between the two could happen either in the boxing ring or inside the PFL Smart Cage next year.

After Wilder’s poor showing against Joseph Parker, it’s safe to say Francis Ngannou likes his chances whether it’s in four-ounce gloves or eight-ounce ones.
