Receiving a rather lengthy call out from undisputed featherweight champion, Ilia Topuria after his stunning UFC 300 victory, Max Holloway admitted he was taken aback at the Georgian’s offer – claiming he didn’t even take the time to read the response.

Holloway, a former undisputed featherweight champion and the recently-minted symbolic BMF titleholder, earned that second crown in emphatic fashion at UFC 300 earlier this month.

En route to an eventual decision win over then-holder Justin Gaethje, Holloway urged the former to stand and trade with him in the final seconds of the fifth round, turning in a blistering left hook knockout with a single second remaining in the bout.

As for Topuria, the Spaniard resident headlined UFC 298 back in February, ending the dominant featherweight title run of Alexander Volkanovski with a crushing second round KO win in Anaheim.

Weighing up a slew of fights in the aftermath of his stoppage win against Gaethje, Hawaiian favorite, Holloway welcomed clashes with lightweight kingpin, Islam Makhachev, as well as a featherweight return to tangle with the above-mentioned, Topuria.

Laying out his demands to defend his title with Holloway on home soil, Topuria claimed if the former would not oblige, he would simply face off with would-be common-opponent, Brian Ortega instead.

However, taking umbrage with Topuria’s comments, Holloway claimed he was surprised at the length of the defending champion’s social media response.

“He (Ilia Topuria) writes like a freakin’ paragraph to me,” Max Holloway said during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. “I didn’t even read it, that’s how long it was. He writes a paragraph to me, and I was just tripping out. It was like an angry girlfriend text, you know, Like my wife don’t even text me like that.”

“I read the first sentence and I was like, ‘I’m not reading this, bro,”’ Max Holloway continued. “‘What the hell is wrong with you?’ I don’t know what’s going on. I rea the first two and then I saw you had to scroll, I was like ‘What the f*ck? Did I make my wife mad?’ I had to make sure it wasn’t her.”

Furthermore, during Rogan’s conversation with Holloway – the long-time color-commentator claimed he had heard Topuria turned down the chance to fight the above-mentioned, Volkanovski in a UFC 305 title fight rematch in August.

Who wins in a future championship fight: Ilia Topuria or Max Holloway?

Jiri Prochazka urged against middleweight move He's borderline psychiatric he could do it

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has been urged against a potential drop to the middleweight limit of 185lbs by former divisional champion, Robert Whittaker – who described the Czech Republic native as “borderline psychiatric”.

Prochazka, a former undisputed light heavyweight champion, managed to land himself the number one rank at the divisional limit once more after UFC 300 earlier this month – turning in a stunning come-from-behind knockout win over fellow European talent, Aleksandar Rakic.

And weighing up a potential rematch with former-foe, Alex Pereira in an attempt to reclaim light heavyweight championship spoils after his victory over Rakic, Prochazka also claimed if he wanted to pursue a middleweight move in the future, he could likely make weight without issue.

However, the above-mentioned, Whittaker – who made the move from welterweight to middleweight where he found his stunning Octagon form en route to an undisputed title win, urged Prochazka away from a drop to 185lbs.

Jiri Prochazka urged to consider middleweight move

“I think he (Jiri Prochazka) has the mentality to get to 84kg (185 pounds), don’t get me wrong, the dude is borderline psychiatric,” Robert Whittaker told MMArcade during a recent podcast appearance. “If he wants to get to 84kg, he’ll do it – whether or not it’ll be a good move is hard to say.”

“I can’t see him at 84kg, I’ve seen him in real life,” Whittaker explained. “I’ve been up close with him and he’s a big dude, it’s not just like he’s physical like he’s got a big frame, he’s got wide shoulders, he’s quite tall like 6’4 – he’s a big, big guy.”

A career light heavyweight, Prochazka, a former RIZIN FF champion, struck UFC gold back in 2021 in a trip to Singapore, rallying to land a highlight-reel fifth round rear-naked choke win over defending champion, Glover Teixeira.

In the United States, foreign fighters will often get booed by stateside fans.

I guess that’s better than getting stabbed, poisoned, or blown up by a grenade, one of many crazy things waiting for MMA fighters in Brazil. Regardless, flyweight contender Steve Erceg is still “excited” to challenge flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja for the 125-pound title in the UFC 301 main event on May 4 in Rio.

“I’m honestly excited for the opportunity to get yelled at and have bottles thrown at me,” Erceg told Submission Radio. “I think it’s going to be very exciting, and I can’t wait to take the belt and put it up, get straight on a plane and fly home. I have a lot of people that have supported me for a long time, and I definitely want to bring the show and bring the belt back to Perth, and give them something to cheer for at home.”

The promotion returns to Perth for UFC 305 in August.

“So, I was at the kitchen table eating KFC when I got the call, enjoying my break,” Erceg continued. “And then yeah, my reaction was sort of laugh, cause two reasons. I guess, one was, Dad sort of predicted the fact that he thought I might get the call, and I called him an idiot. So, I thought I probably owed him an apology. And the second was I didn’t know if I should throw out the KFC or finish it. And ultimately, I decided to finish the three-piece feed.”

No word on whether or not that included a soda.

“I think I’m definitely cleaner than [Pantoja] is,” Erceg said. “I think I make better angles, dictate range better. I just have a better skillset. He hits very hard and he has a good chin, and you’re going to go forward and get in my face, which is obviously hard to deal with for anybody. But I just think that I’ll be able to keep him at my range and touch him up from there.”

Maybe that will please some of those “disgruntled” fans.

“He gets put into bad spots sometimes, but he just keeps going forward. He gets tired and he finds a way to keep pushing the whole fight,” Erceg said. “And somebody that’s not going to give up is a very dangerous person. Obviously, he has great skills outside of that, but some people with great skills, if they’re not winning the way they expect to be winning, they break. But I don’t believe he will break. So, I’m gonna have to take it away from him.”

Jorge Masvidal reveals $5,000,000 payday for fighting Kamaru Usman they gave into my demands

Former two-time undisputed welterweight champion, Jorge Masvidal has claimed he netted in excess of $5,000,000 for his efforts at UFC 251, despite suffering a decision loss to arch-rival, Kamaru Usman in the pair’s first title fight.

Masvidal, a promotional alum and a two-fight title challenger at the welterweight limit, is slated to make his return to combat sports at the beginning of June, taking on fellow organizational veteran, Nate Diaz in a 10-round professional boxing rematch.

Departing the UFC following a fourth consecutive loss in a decision defeat to Gilbert Burns last year in his native Miami, Masvidal has since vowed to make a return to the promotion in search of one final run following his June clash with Diaz inside the squared circle.

Jorge Masvidal reveals huge payday for UFC 251 short-notice fight

Twice challenging for undisputed welterweight spoils – the most recent of which at UFC 261 in ‘The Sunshine State’, Masvidal suffered a thunderous second round KO loss to former pound-for-pound number one, Usman, however, claims he landed a lucrative payday for his efforts the first time around – in the region of $5,000,000.

“… I had to get paid,” Jorge Masvidal told VLADTV about accepting a short-notice fight with Kamaru Usman at UFC 251. “And I had to get paid very f*cking handsomely for doing this. So, they [the UFC] gave into all my demands that I had.”

“That’s one of the fights that I made the most money, period,” Jorge Masvidal explained. “Because we ended up settling at right under 1,300,000 pay-per-views [buys]. If I hadn’t struck that deal with the UFC, I wouldn’t have got nowhere near $5,000,000 – I would’ve sold the same amount and got nowhere near $5,000,000. And I would’ve just felt like I got taken advantage of, so the part of me – the business side of me, the prize fighter side of me was very much satisfied and happy.”

Justin Gaethje ruled from future fight with Islam Makhachev after UFC 300 He was the biggest threat to us

Following his spectacular defeat to Max Holloway at UFC 300 earlier this month, any chances that Justin Gaethje will fight Islam Makhachev for the lightweight crown in the future have been axed by head coach, Javier Mendez, who admitted the former was likely the biggest “threat” to the Russian’s title reign.

Gaethje, a former interim lightweight champion, featured as the first of three ‘championship’ fights at UFC 300 earlier this month, taking on former featherweight kingpin, Holloway in the pair’s symbolic BMF title fight.

And off the back of his defeat, Gaethje – who plans an extended break away from active competition, has been ruled from a fight with Makhachev in the future, by the Russian’s head coach – who admitted the Arizona native was likely going to pose the biggest difficulty to the reign of the American Kickboxing Academy product.

Justin Gaethje claims he's not done after UFC 300 loss to Max Holloway I will fight in the future

“Yeah to me, the guy – out of all the guys that I thought was stylistically very dangerous, out of all of them, I thought it was Justin Gaethje,” Javier Mendez said on his podcast. “Stylistically, because of his wrestling pedigree, you know. And his striking is really good, [he’s] strong.”

“It’s all apples and oranges, right,” Mendez explained. “Everybody brings a different skillset, so I thought he was the biggest threat for us. And now, he’s probably never going to be in the picture for us, going forward. No need to talk about him as a threat because he’s never going to be there anymore, I don’t think.”
