UFC 131 from the Rogers Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia was an action-packed pay-per-view.

The main card was highlighted by the featherweight debut of Kenny Florian as he defeated the highly talented Brazilian, Diego Nunes in an extremely entertaining affair.

Not to be outdone, Mark Munoz capitalized on his wrestling background, boxing talent, and savage ground-and-pound as he secured a controversial decision victory over Demian Maia.

On Spike TV, Sam Stout secured his “Hands of Stone” nickname as he left Yves Edwards unconscious in the center of the Octagon from a hellacious left hook.

UFC 131 Results: Why Junior Dos Santos Will Beat Cain Velasquez

Bleacher Report’s Alex Johnson:

Post-UFC 131, it seems more than apparent that Junior Dos Santos is the number one contender in the Heavyweight Division.

JDS showed a dominant standup and ground game in his fight with Shane Carwin, along with the sportsmanship of a true athlete. Furthermore, it seems more than plausible that Dos Santos will be able to take on Cain Velasquez and beat him without much trouble at all.

This isn’t to take anything away from Velasquez, who is a great athlete and champion, but Junior seems to be fighting on a whole new level.

UFC 131 Results: Is Dave Herman Too Small to Compete in the UFC HW Division?

Bleacher Report’s Andrew Mahlmann:

The short answer is “no”, but the long answer is “probably”.

The reason why the short answer is “no” is because we are not talking about championship-level fights.

At a muscular 6’5” and 233 pounds, Herman has enough size to be successful against the majority of professional heavyweights…. but, he will hit a ceiling at some point.

Just as Fedor Emelianenko found out, larger and more skilled athletes are entering the sport every year.

By the time Herman is able to generate significant momentum in the UFC, there will be somebody bigger than him and ready to derail him.

The reason why my long answer is not a definitive “yes”, and just a “probably” is that at 26 years old, we do not know how much more Herman might physically grow.

UFC 131 is in the books and  there were some important takeaways from the event:

Even with monitors, the judges can really make some terrible decisions.

Being a one-trick pony doesn’t cut it these days in the UFC.

Kenny Florian cuts weight a lot better than, say, Jake Shields.

Sam Stout is not a bad guy.

Entering the cage to a Culture Club song doesn’t mean you can’t knock someone out.

Be ready for anything from any opponent.

Herb Dean is among, if not, the best referees in the game.

Shane Carwin can take a punch.

Intrigued?  Hope so, read on for more details.
